It would have been neat if they cooperatively updated the board meeting deck using the sensory activity board. The giant dial is similar to our Tonieplay.

View of the World from 9th Avenue is an illustration by Saul Steinberg that served as the cover of the March 29, 1976, edition of The New Yorker.

interloxia··on An update on leaving Gmail for Fastmail
I want some sort of hybrid paid for by my fastmail sub. Something like a first party gpg on the happy path for anyone who uses fastmail and a wasm/whatever (if possible) web app link for keen buy not willing to pay email recipients.

I.e. my friends who are willing to share keys now and then but not actually pay for the service.

Otherwise I'm stuck with signal asking for donations forever / waiting for something to actually replace email.

They do? It's a common upsell for 50-100ish per flight leg.
interloxia··on Latest Airbus single aisle aircraft innovations
The back reclines. The bum and legs don't move. My knees usually only just fit. When someone reclines their seat usually presses on my knees. Those few cm matter.

Sometimes the seat design is such that my knees block the recline. If I'm unlucky it sucks.

Up to about 15 years ago, Sure. Now you're mostly out of luck unless you pay.
interloxia··on Worse on Purpose – How Corporate Greed Killed Product Quality – Worse on Purpose
Sometimes. My Bosch washing machine died young due to cheap bearings. The AEG dryer had soldering problems and the German dishwasher's time light projector died slowly.

My old Sony xz2c's USB C port wore out after about three years use. About the same length of time they bothered to update Android. :/

Philips knows how to penny pinch. Don't buy the more recent low end models.

Their kid's app has been great.

interloxia··on Germany set to restrict its Freedom of Information Act
How about the us citizen who is a permanent resident in Germany? German family? Business partners?
interloxia··on GPT‑Live
Any feedback from different locations or cultural groups?

One group's expectation of interruption for pleasant conversational flow can be just as off-putting as another's expectation of patient silence.

interloxia··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
That's how we end up with stolen generations of kids taken from parents.

It was bad and suggesting state violence for lack of compliance with your world view is bad.

interloxia··on Using Home Assistant in a botanical garden
"No vendor sells you a product for that gap, because the gap spans two vendors. So nobody can cross-examine the building. Including you, who owns it."

Power monitoring is surprisingly effective. Open data is better but a few shelly/whatever devices works even for dumb devices.

interloxia··on Memory crisis is getting so bad that even retro RAM prices are going to the Moon
I would argue that my old 4790K with dual channel ddr3 19200, at 10x power, is similar or better. That box lasted way longer than was reasonable.
interloxia··on Optocam Zero: a Pi Zero based digital camera made using off the shelf components
My kid has a Fisher-Price Kid Tough camera. It's excellent for us but the pictures are so bad even the kid is disappointed.

It would be fun to repace the guts with something like this project but a long boot time is a deal breaker.

Perhaps the software can be optimised or a DIY friendly pi pico project is the way.

interloxia··on Identity verification on Claude
Where possible, I believe it's our duty to educate those who know or care little about how their devices work. Unfortunately stats aren't persuasive for my family, but they might be for some as a starting point.

interloxia··on Reading for pleasure is sharply down among schoolkids, report shows
Here are our top ~500 English picture books from Open Library that my kids liked enough that we've read at least twice.

The quality of the scans are usually poor and occasionally pages are missing and many have been removed. It's been great for us.

interloxia··on Apparently Google hates us now
Users, ad-block users, and scrapers all consume the publicly-available content whether you like it or not.

I expect the difference is that the scrapers are the most likely to regurgitate the content one way or the other.

interloxia··on The locals don't know
Lots of touristy and proper hiking in the Blue Mountains. I like the cliffs and waterfalls loops at Wentworth Falls.

Random blog with photos https://www.walkmyworld.com/posts/wentworth-pass

Rent bikes and cruise the Olympic site. Or cut through briefly to the Cooks River and ride to the beach.

Walk through the glow worm tunnel in the mountains or find someone to take you canyoning. Eeevblog has a video. (Not public transport friendly)

Walk through the the coal terminal at Balls Head.

Walk the start of the Great North walk. Or the length of the Royal national Park (Bundeena to Otford).

Bike/walk the Seven Bridges loop.

Go snorkelling / swim the various rock pools.

Swim at the North Sydney Olympic Pool (if they finish it).

Visit Cockatoo Island / picnic on some of the small islands in the harbour.

Go up the pylon on the bridge.
