infoseckid··on Say hello to x64 Assembly, part 1

infoseckid··on Y Combinator to recruit more black entrepreneurs
I hate it when someone says we'd like to fund more from a "minority" such as women or black people or XXX like YC has done in the past. What does this do?

1. For the minority this makes them feel like they "need help" and they are "not good enough" unless they are given an unfair advantage

2. For the majority, it makes them feel sidelined and at an unfair disadvantage when applying

YC needs to just promote entrepreneurship and not colour. For the record, I am a coloured man, unfortunately not black to be able to take advantage of this latest "minority giveaway"

infoseckid··on Mistakes You Should Never Make
You could have at least called the founder and asked what he meant, instead of bashing him here. You could have asked him to add more clarification in his blog which might have ensured that what your pointing to is not implied.

You guys are growing and its important to scale your communication as well.

infoseckid··on Rap Genius Raises $40M, Changes Name To Genius
Another useless service --- here comes the bubble.
infoseckid··on Are We Welcome Entrepreneurs or Unwanted Criminals?
I think what she meant was being put in the same category as people who had committed real crimes which warrants harsh treatments like confinements. I don't think she meant treat me specially :)
infoseckid··on Browse the web Hands Free (Chrome extension)
Would be really fun to watch this go in a crowded area where there are other voices :)
infoseckid··on The End of Food?
It's like saying sex toys will eventually replace having sex because why waste time dating, courting and then having sex :) when you could just use a toy + redtube and get it over with in 10 minutes.
infoseckid··on The End of Food?
These are what I call "Get me some Press" companies from a VC / YC perspective. Will make the cover of WSJ ... get a ton of attention to the company and investors and eventually be dead in 3-4 years.
infoseckid··on An Untold Startup Story
Which accelerator was this?
infoseckid··on Welcome Kat, Yuri, Patrick, and Elizabeth
I imagine this expansion will hopefully lead to a larger batch being selected this year as there are more mentors available.

infoseckid··on Applications open for the summer 2014 YC batch
On April 15, we'll invite the groups that seem most promising to meet us in Mountain View between April 24 and 28 ----

-- This is too less time for companies based outside of the US to arrange cheap tickets, visas etc.

infoseckid··on Paul Graham on Building Companies for Fast Growth
Funny --- next time when YC rejects a company with foreign founders, you should ask them "Was it the idea or the accent?" :D Hilarious ...
infoseckid··on Paul Graham on Building Companies for Fast Growth
If found it worth a mention for a worldwide released article ... I am sure its pretty high on his list
infoseckid··on Paul Graham on Building Companies for Fast Growth
Me too! I would have thought there could be so many things in the number 1 spot ... and then this :)
infoseckid··on We Need To Talk, Google
Either build your own or do not complain when it is free. Its fair. You cannot "demand" in exchange for FREE
infoseckid··on We Need To Talk, Google
You should try to build own your video hosting site or SHUT UP. At least Youtube is free, the last time I checked F-Secure was not, so SHUT UP! or build your own :)
infoseckid··on Why I Was Fired From a Tech Startup and What My Boss Had to Say About It
I figured the whole "be loyal to yourself" stuff almost in my first job when I was not allowed to rise up the ladder too quick as "more senior people" need to be promoted first. That day I decided my job will always be my plan B. I am happy to report now I run my own , very profitable business and have achieved financial freedom from JOBS and BOSSES
infoseckid··on My Startup has 30 Days to Live
Don't get me wrong but this is the classic example of "following the herd" of current gen startups --- too much focus on pleasing investors, raising money, eventually realizing you've relinquished control == don't feel sense of ownership in the company, straying from the vision or not getting enough traction, founders breaking up and then the ship sinking!
infoseckid··on The Matasano Crypto Challenges
Sent the email, no challenges received yet :( you should make it easier to get started.
infoseckid··on My Code made it to a Hollywood Movie
The Wiki article lifted the code from Vivek's site (the author). This is how I solved the mystery:

http://cs.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Raw_socket&dif...

Do you see they mention a reference: http://security-freak.net/raw-sockets/raw-sockets.html which was later removed as the site is now down. Both the code + the reference was added by the same author on wikipedia on the same day in 2011.

A whois on Security-Freak.net gives me that Vivek is still the owner of the domain: http://whois.domaintools.com/security-freak.net

This matches the whois person for securitytube.net (OP's site) http://whois.domaintools.com/securitytube.net

Proof 2: Wayback machine:

http://web.archive.org/web/20071217111629/http://www.securit...

Code: http://web.archive.org/web/20071219013022/http://www.securit...

The above C file is the exact same code posted in the Wiki article - in 2011 which was there on security-freak.net in 2007.

A new reason why to comment your code well :)
infoseckid··on Wi-Fi SSID Sniffer in 10 Lines of Python
Nice catch! This may be required as we are comparing against every beacon frame and one could have a large number of them over the air at any time.
infoseckid··on Wi-Fi SSID Sniffer in 10 Lines of Python
Finally, one person on HN who gets it :) Pleased to meet you another sane person on HN! :)
infoseckid··on No more remote work at Yahoo
People at Yahoo need to "work" first to qualify for "remote work". I think this is the right direction. Get the team together, develop team spirit and then transform the company.
infoseckid··on How H-1B Visas Are Screwing Tech Workers
Be competitive, rather than eliminate competition. If an H1B can do the same job for a cheaper price, he should be hired. What's so wrong about it?
infoseckid··on Why HN was down
"I don't know if Nick succeeded, because in the middle of this I gave up and went to bed." - Not a good example to your holding companies :) What would happend if they all went to bed when something goes wrong :) Just kidding.
infoseckid··on Beej's Guide to Network Programming
I owe this guy my entry into network programming and eventually security.
