infinitezest··on Konsta UI – Mobile UI Components Built with TailwindCSS
To quote you from another thread in this discussion:

> I've often found that people who are in the frontend don't properly learn CSS and just hack it together. That was me too for a long while which is why I hated it. Then I started learning it from first principles and it makes a lot of sense. Now I can build whatever I need in plain CSS classes.

So sometimes people just... misunderstand or use the tool wrong?

infinitezest··on Bird.makeup: a Twitter to ActivityPub bridge
I would log for this to work but these bots always have 0 posts in their timelines.
infinitezest··on Show HN: I “wrote” a kid's book with ChatGPT and Midjourney
There is the notable difference in the speed and scale at which a computer can be trained. The analogy doesn't really hold up in my opinion.
infinitezest··on No Start Menu for You
For window management and tiling, I think Rectangle is better than most of the alternatives I've used. And its OSS https://rectangleapp.com/
infinitezest··on Secondments at Zapier
> But the real question they were asking was: "How can I add value? How can I show that I still belong here? How can I make myself a critical part of the team at Zapier during this time when I can't do the things I was initially hired to do?"

What? Maybe what they were asking was just "do I need to start looking for an another source of income". Why dress it up in weird corpo-speak?

infinitezest··on Kagi – Paid Search Engine
I don't know what y'all are searching for but DDG works for me pretty consistently.
infinitezest··on Twitter policy page forbidding links to other social media removed
> "Tweets" are much longer, so it no longer feels like microblogging. Sensitive content feels even dumber, I don't want to click "Read more" in order to view a tweet like it was some kind of a ad-bait blog post.

While messages can be longer, IME they tend to be about Tweet length.

Content Warnings are optional and can be expanded automatically by your client.

> And I have no idea if I chose the right Mastodon instance with the right hall admins that won't read my private messages and ban me for having the wrong opinion.

Valid. But I'm not sure this is much different at Twitter. And at least with Mastodon, you can leave and take your data with you. If you're concerned about this, you have the option of hosting yourself. I know a lot of people rankle at that suggestion but Twitter doesn't even give you that option.

infinitezest··on Twitter has re-suspended ElonJet account
Right? I'm actually interested in hearing the counter argument but unfortunately, it wasn't provided.
infinitezest··on Epic is turning off online services and servers for some older games
If I buy a game and a company effectively breaks it by turning off my ability to play it, is that not theft?
infinitezest··on ChatGPT, Rot13, and Daniel Kahneman
> I find it amusing that, at present, ChatGPT seems to be lousy at mathematical-type reasoning while being very good at natural language use.

All this time developers have been freaking out about ChatGPT taking their jobs when it's really politicians that should be nervous!

infinitezest··on Placing #1 in Advent of Code with GPT-3
As a professional developer, this recent news is really depressing. My livelihood appears set to evaporate.
infinitezest··on Gaslighting is Word of the Year 2022
...and which side would that be?
infinitezest··on Berty: Privacy-first messaging app
Why use this instead of Matrix?
infinitezest··on Layoff spree in Silicon Valley spells end of an era for Big Tech
I hope this remains a "myth" for you. I can assure you that it can be quite painful to deal with and take a long time to remedy.
infinitezest··on Mastodon Is Awesome
Whenever I tell people that I don't like to use Twitter I often hear that I'm just using it wrong. On the other hand, I've been really enjoying my time with Fosstodon.
infinitezest··on Find your Twitter friends on Mastodon
Fedilab has been pretty nice to use
infinitezest··on Find your Twitter friends on Mastodon
As someone that recently set up a Matrix server, I'm not sure what you're talking about.
infinitezest··on Vladimir Putin says the world’s energy infrastructure is at risk
Here's a CSPAN video from 8 months ago of Biden telling a reporter that if Russia invades Ukraine the US will "put and end to" the nord stream pipeline.

infinitezest··on Show HN: Linen – Open-source Slack for communities
The more I use Matrix and Element, the more convinced that its the way to go. The ability to see lf-host, e2e encryption, optional federation... And if you use Element you get threads, audio/video calls, etc. Apart from name recognition, what does Matrix not have that all of these other apps have?
infinitezest··on Code Review Handbook
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people get into the habit of leaving code reviews with only suggestions like variable name changes. It's not that I'm resistant to changing things like that but I have several colleagues that seem to only ever make suggestions like that and it seems very performative to me.
infinitezest··on Launch HN: Spinach.io (YC W22) – Better daily standups
I can also offer one: "I have a conflict at ${standup time} and will not be able to attend"
infinitezest··on sd – a cozy nest for your scripts
I wrote a very similar tool that optionally uses FZF for auto complete: https://codeberg.org/atomdmac/gosh
infinitezest··on Evolving my note-taking processes
For anyone that likes to use markdown and neovim I've developed this plugin: https://gitlab.com/atomdmac/notes.vim
infinitezest··on How to Get into Tabletop RPGs
Check out Hero Kids. Super simple mechanics that still have the general feel of D&D. In my experience younger kids are way more interested in narrative than in combat though so I would lean into that aspect of it.
infinitezest··on How to Get into Tabletop RPGs
Savage Worlds is my personal favorite. Its not exactly rules-light but it is fairly "a-la-carte". You really only need to learn the basics to play but there are a ton of subsystems you can employ if you want to.

Another great one is The Black Hack which is much more rules light and in the DCC vein.

infinitezest··on The Google Pixel 6a highlights the problem with the U.S. phone market
The solutions everyone is putting forward in this thread essentially boil down to "stop complaining that your stuff has been designed to stop working and buy more stuff". That doesnt seem... suboptimal to y'all?
infinitezest··on The Google Pixel 6a highlights the problem with the U.S. phone market
ive tried several of these and they havent been reliable for me. Lots of cutting out, crackling, etc
infinitezest··on The Remote Pop-In (2021)
We just use Slack DMs to propose a huddle when appropriate. If I cant talk immediately, I can propose a time frame ("give me 5 or so"). This article seems super over-engineered to me.
infinitezest··on GraphQL kinda sucks
Ive used GQL on several projects for work and its been _OK_ to work with but not really worth the hassle in our cases. It ended up costing us lots of time to onboard new devs and hasnt given is much in return aside from type safety between the front and back ends. Im sure there are good use cases for GQL but I have not personally run into them.
infinitezest··on TikTok’s Poison Pill
The US government is a menace so the American people have no reason to feel threatened by a foriegn power? Am I understanding your argument correctly?
