Surely what they learnt at bootcamp is less than worthless.
:)
No I am not a paid shill, try again,
What is your alternative? Pass laws to 'force' them to 'do the right thing' according to people who don't live there?
Doesn't seem like this is anyone else's business.
In a drinking culture, nodding off at your desk is a very very bad thing because it means you can't handle your liquor and this just could not be tolerated. Due to all the drinking, with management and clients, if you had a problem your were a liability. It's insane but it was another time. Not my generation but I've had conversations.
Napping now, with the amount of real work we all do. The stress level we are willing to carry. It's just not anybody's business anymore.
Eric Schmidt is as biased on this subject as you can get, he profits from our data.
I think most of these articles are focused on startup culture and marque companies. (ie. 1% of the market)
So if your old and wise and still working congratulations! Maybe look back, if you can remember that far, and realize you've bern employed this entire time doing something you'd do for free if they didn't pay you.
Damm I love my job!
p.s. Remember the golden rule: Wait for critical mass, hijack, then do the same thing you did last time.
:)
A huge percentage of the code I write has nothing to do with the front-end. Am I going to hang my project's fate on a platform created solely with quick and cheap front-end development in mind? Probably not.
I do remember the bad old days when all you really had was a thick native client, a database, and scheduled tasks. So there is precedence, i'm just not sure it's good one?
:)
I like Node, I like Meteor, not ready yet, but close. I like the idea of sharing logic, data, and state that way. Not happy about the sideways protocol. Leaves Node available for the crap I don't want to run on the client.
Pretty sure the magical disappearing back-end (OP) idea is a dead end tho.
Perfect!
What concerns me the most is that you just had to mention access to code AND that you had not touched it.
When faced with a split second decision whether to live or die, humans choose to live, that's how we made it this far...
There are people who would rather look good then play well, and then there are true ballers who never even thought about anything but winning the game by any means necessary.
I think the older devs that are still relevant probably don't show up in the job seeking type of data, they are probably already booked with paying work and startups!
