Anyone asked if their research itself precipitates suicide attempts?
inemesitaffia··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
I noticed a lot of illegal video sites now host their video itself via CloudFlare.

Before they'd use some European host or file locker.

I wonder about the economics and how it's hidden.

inemesitaffia··on Among European Companies That Use a CDN, Nearly 9 in 10 Use Cloudflare
It's always surprising to find a website that's not behind CloudFlare, Akamai, DDOS guard or Fastly.

BTW CDN is a terrible business.

The only thing worse that's adjacent is rural Fiber and seemingly Wholesale IP transit.

Add zero and I'll take it seriously

The ~$106 million was an EXIM loan for an Israeli satellite launch. (Export financing)

https://www.exim.gov/news/ex-im-bank-approves-1054-million-l...

Unless the solar was also supplied by SpaceX (possible;unlikely) that amount doesn't reflect what SpaceX got

i.e SpaceX gets it's cash immediately and the debtor is the Israeli launch company.

(Does that constitute a subsidy to SpaceX or the foreign company?)

The launch failed and SpaceX was on the hook for the money or a replacement launch as covered here

https://spaceflightnow.com/2017/10/26/israels-spacecom-books...

There was also financing for other launches like this https://spacenews.com/ex-im-bank-finances-spacex-launch-deal... and I wonder why it wasn't included. I also wonder if Spacecom, the Israeli provider didn't get other EXIM loans for its launches.

SpaceX has been trying to get actual federal subsidies for ages but has been failing. (RDOF, BEAD)

As for the tax abatement, it's the exact tax abatement other companies have got in the past, not something custom created for SpaceX.

SpaceX spent ~$7 million a day before swallowing xAi (monumental error IMO) I don't know what amount is supposed to be massive compared to its size.

Definitely.

I remember that

But the Starship contracts were awarded by Biden.

And unlike SLS weren't no-bid

inemesitaffia··on Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
Artemis was announced under Trump 1, but the contract was awarded by Biden. The concept is older than SpaceX.

That should be enough clue.

The Chinese car ban (not just electric mind you) was at the instigation/behest of Unions and Ford in particular. Another Biden thing

Blue Origin matters because they got more money to do less.

inemesitaffia··on Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
>redirecting funds away from useful stuff like the James Webb Telescope for publicity stunts

The point is this isn't happening.

Almost everything you're complaining about happened under Biden, who Musk wasn't on good terms with.

SpaceX is the cheapest provider of the services it offers, and the government is a large customer but has been less than half of revenue since before 2024.

If the government wants to build a space station (Vast, Axiom, Voyager) or land something(Firefly, Intuitive Machines) or someone on the moon(SpaceX, Blue Origin) , it will find contractors that can do all or part.

The contractors here are BAE Space & Mission Systems (fka Ball Aerospace), L3Harris, and Teledyne. i.e the "NASA" money always ends up at some corp. And complaining about SpaceX stealing money is ignorance.

It's worth noting that the primary contractor for the ISS is Boeing, but Leidos and KBR are involved.

The screwworm thing is straight up misinformation end to end.

I remember looking into it when it happened.

It's believed the vector is smuggled cows/beef.

Nah. I'm pretty clear about not agreeing.

People have goals they work towards...

Sometimes they have success/failure.

That's different from "making stuff up"

Without reusability, SpaceX wouldn't achieve profitability in its connectivity segment.

Especially not by 2024
