I would rather be a railroad entrepreneur--ferrying people, harvest, and livestock.

indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
I like the idea -- to extend yours -- all the bookmarks and pages visited (or pages dwelled on for more than a minute) get full-texted and filed to a local LLM. And you can query directly, and it has the context.
indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
like physically ctrl-v-ing the links to a file? that is quite a mental muscle to build every time you find something interesting.
indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
That is a good inspiration to chase. Keep it simple.
indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
If I do one, it would be for personal use.

Because the moment it evolves into publicly available, then it would suck me into the dopamine of adding features for others :-)

indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
Interesting. I would want something similar -- like an old school web annotator but kinda automated.
indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
The sync is a major issue. If I save them on my desktop's Chrome, then my iPhone's Safari does not know those.
indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
15K :o

That is some number. Mine would have been similar, but they got lost as I moved between tools.

indus··on Ask HN: Do you still bookmark websites?
do you use an extension to interactively save the links?
indus··on Ask HN: How do I buy a typewriter?
Challenge is to find something that is closed to refurbished like new. There are just a few manufactures in US, Japan, and India.
indus··on Ask HN: How do I buy a typewriter?
Idea is to get into a tactile and mechanical setting. Hand written short drafts could be a starting point before starting to type.
indus··on Ask HN: How do I buy a typewriter?
Researched a few sites. But wanted practical ideas. Saw people selling questionable used ones at ebay

Bubble?
indus··on Personal care products disrupt the human oxidation field
Is soap included? I seldom use body soap during a shower. Probably once a quarter, when my SO threatens me with consequences.

I am not a researcher, but I have a simple evolutionary theory that soap was invented in the last few thousand years and became a mass-market product after the beginning of industrialization.

If we survived and evolved without the use of something in the last few million years, then why is that thing needed?

indus··on Mozilla to shut down Pocket on July 8
Backflip to Delicious to Pocket.

Why isn’t there a simple bookmarking solution that can survive technology shifts?

indus··on Meme Creation Platform
Forget Model Context Protocol — we’re talking Meme Creation Platform. :-)

Because sometimes the only way to explain AI complexity… is with a Drake meme.

We built a natural language meme generator using Claude AI + Imgflip.

Type your idea, get a meme. That simple.

Perfect for dev rel, product launches, or just roasting your team’s JIRA board.

Happy April 1st — but this one’s actually real.

indus··on How each pillar of the First Amendment is under attack
Maybe the T-800 comes back reprogrammed to save us.

He is feeling out of place, his stock is down, his popularity has tanked.

He probably got what he wants from the current admin.

Hope it doesn’t get late.

indus··on My washing machine refreshed my thinking on software estimation
op exhibited a point where if we do not know what we do not know--the estimates are always off by many order of several magnitudes.

if op consulted an experienced plumber--the estimates would be off probably by an addition hour.

if a junior dev estimates, yup, I can change the API endpoint in 10 minutes, he'll be wronged by the nuances of several intermediate steps:

- code

- review / merge

- deploy to qa

- qa testing

- deploy to staging

- deploy to prod

likewise for plumbing: "mom, i plugged the leak with a band-aid."

indus··on Cities can cost effectively start their own utilities
and cities can build roads and highways too?
indus··on Astronomers delete asteroid because it turned out to be Tesla Roadster
I read the headline incorrectly as hard delete

But looks they just soft deleted the entry in their database.

indus··on Thank HN: My bootstrapped startup got acquired today
Amazing!

Good luck with whatever you are planning to do next.

Hmu, if you are in the Bay Area next.

indus··on Thank HN: My bootstrapped startup got acquired today
@paras: Congrats! If you remember we met in Palo Alto when you were thinking about moving to the Bay Area -- I spilled my tea which soiled your t-shirt :-)

This is a fantastic outcome. Why not keep going?

indus··on Om Malik – The Story of Stent
I met him for the first time outside Kresge—-that was YC’s first startup school (or demo day?). He was smoking 555. He had just finished his on stage session where he used flash cards instead of slides.
indus··on ISO 8583: The language of credit cards
(In the holiday spirit)

The only language of credit cards is points, cashback, APYs, and hard to read TOS

indus··on Send someone you appreciate an official 'Continue and Persist' Letter
As a startup founder, my journey is super lonely.

There is seldom a flutter of thanks—-rarely does anyone come to me saying, “Splendid!”

Yet, the day continues, operated by a calendar.

The lack of thanks does not make me anxiouz, but I continue on my journey because I signed up—to create. Create something out of thin air, something out of my figment of imagination.

But there are moments where I am vulnerable, alone. In those moments, I look for a post-it where it says, “Continue and Persist.”

Thanks for creating this. I’ll wait for this. Maybe someone, someday.

indus··on RFC 35140: HTTP Do-Not-Stab (2023)
Why a header?

Do a sidedoor as a /do-not-stab.txt

Do-Not-Stab: 1

This is what the internet was in 1998, before hustlers invented SEO.
indus··on Internet Archive: Security breach alert
I mistakenly read HIBP as Half Price Books..wait what?
indus··on Looming Liability Machines (LLMs)
Most LLMs have an accuracy benchmark for controlled questions & answers.

Even if this accuracy is 95% then in a complex system the probability of getting to the right answer diminishes with each new step being added. This is also the key tenet of an agentic system.

While the analysis in the blog is excellent but an answer needs to be found. A layer on top of LLMs for error control/check.

As an analogy, in the analog to digital transmission stack of OSI, an error correction mechanism such as frame check sequence (fcs) detects transmission errors in the data link layer.
