inancgumus··on The lab-leak theory: inside the fight to uncover Covid-19’s origins
TLDR: Demaneuf soon discovered that there had been four incidents of SARS-related lab breaches since 2004, two occuring at a top laboratory in Beijing. Due to overcrowding there, a live SARS virus that had been improperly deactivated, had been moved to a refrigerator in a corridor. A graduate student then examined it in the electron microscope room and sparked an outbreak.
inancgumus··on Ask HN: Which are the best Go repositories to read to learn the language?
Not a project per-se but a lot of small example projects: https://github.com/inancgumus

inancgumus··on Data structures and algorithms I actually used while working at tech companies
The problem with interviews is not whether those companies are actually using algos in practice. The problem is that they ask the data structures and algorithms as ruthless puzzless to detect a candidate's level. That's a very wrong approach.
inancgumus··on Ask HN: 40 years old and Google, is it possible?
Another possibility is that you can be a consultant to FANG companies.

You better start networking with people already work in those companies.

inancgumus··on Ask HN: Which is the most successful one-person business you heard of in 2019?
I know a guy from our local industry who has a free cybercafe software. He's making about $500k/year for the past 20 years or so. It's a one man business.

inancgumus··on Ask HN: Your favourite tutorial for total beginners?
Learn Go the Complete Bootcamp course teaches to a complete beginner step by step with easy to understand animations, and 1000+ exercises.

To me, Go is a great starting language because it's in the sweet place between high-level and low-level.

inancgumus··on More Gotchas of Defer in Go, Part II
Check out the first part too. Btw, gotcha means what you say: "a gotcha ... works as documented but is counter-intuitive and almost invites mistakes ..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotcha_(programming)

Check out the first part too: https://blog.learngoprogramming.com/gotchas-of-defer-in-go-1...

I fell to these when I was learning Go for the first time and then I've seen many people also did so. There is no rule like these are gotchas for everyone.

inancgumus··on More Gotchas of Defer in Go, Part II
Thanks! That post definitely a must read.

Btw, the first part was more advanced (but again for beginners and intermediate gophers) -> https://blog.learngoprogramming.com/gotchas-of-defer-in-go-1...

inancgumus··on More Gotchas of Defer in Go, Part II
Well, it depends. Upgoing posts will go deeper on defer.
inancgumus··on 5 Gotchas of Defer in Go (Golang) – Part I

* Deferred method gotchas

inancgumus··on Ask HN: Has attracting a blog audience become harder?
Yeah. When a visitor goes from Page-A to Page-B, only then, GA counts it.

If the visitor gets to Page-A and gets out, GA doesn't count it.

inancgumus··on Why I Quit OS X – Geoff Wozniak
I completely disagree. Only agree on Launchpad and it does not decrease any usability either.

inancgumus··on Where the logic hides in rails apps
I think what you are in need is nothing to do with model separation. But, you need to be careful about which code belongs to your business logic. For the views you mentioned, I don't know your code but I think you may use something interim, like a presenter code which takes data from the models and helps views to show it.
inancgumus··on Where the logic hides in rails apps
Yes, I bought the book earlier, although it contains some valuable things but it needs an editorial review. It shows kind of things wich not simple, just complex (I said simple, not easy).
