imissmyjuno··on Can sleep deprivation cure depression?
I always get euphoric during sleep deprivation as well, however even if it is a "cure" it is not sustainable.

I believe this effect during sleep deprivation is due to dopaminergic supersensitivity.

imissmyjuno··on Create systems that make it easy for you to succeed
I think I'll check in on the author come January 2018 :D
imissmyjuno··on Galaxy Note7: What We Discovered
It made me mad TBH. I feel like I'm being sold further on their high-tech image instead of given an apology or any recognition of the seriousness of the issue.
imissmyjuno··on Canada to Study a Mysterious Curling ‘Frankenbroom'
> a scientific mystery that is rattling the foundations of curling

I'm Canadian and it was hard to not wonder if I was reading the Onion

imissmyjuno··on Apple is not a technology company
5 hours of listening time on the AirPods…
imissmyjuno··on Hello from Orkut
Right but don't criticize devices if your solution is to use a device?
imissmyjuno··on Hello from Orkut
Male or female, honestly? In 2016?
imissmyjuno··on Apps made for one OS shouldn't insist on aping the design elements of another
The article's point still stands though: sticking to a platform's design == jarring user experience.

Not to say that I agree that it's necessarily bad: his example of Word on Mac vs. Windows is actually interesting bc, given sufficient differences, users would have a hard time switching between the two if they own both platforms and the applications look completely different. I think it should be possible to retain certain UI paradigms (e.g. back buttons, toolbars) while staying uniform across all platforms in other respects.

imissmyjuno··on How to Make Pittsburgh a Startup Hub
I dunno man, I can't say any of this reads as encouraging: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Texas
imissmyjuno··on How to Make Pittsburgh a Startup Hub
Can you elaborate on Paris? It was my impression it was full of historical buildings and is expanding outwards, which isn't an option for SF.

imissmyjuno··on The Impossible Music of Black MIDI
wow, cool. it's like a musical equivalent of semantic saturation. they zoom in on a phrase and repeat it with such odd signatures that you lose all frame of reference, but then they move onto the next part and it makes sense in the context of a greater picture / chord progression. thanks for the rec!
imissmyjuno··on VW Emissions Issues Spread to Gasoline Cars [video]
> “VW is leaving us all speechless,” said Arndt Ellinghorst, a London-based analyst with Evercore ISI.

Very valuable insight and addition ¬_¬. The article seems really set on painting VW in a desperate failing state.

imissmyjuno··on 19th Century Marriage Manuals: Advice for Young Husbands
are you saying social conservatives are sexist in a way that's similar to the patronizing behaviour quoted from the book? i'm a little confused about the 2nd sentence too.
imissmyjuno··on 19th Century Marriage Manuals: Advice for Young Husbands
This is potentially a very ignorant question but, how do you choose which passages should not be followed?
imissmyjuno··on Google Cloud Shell
a. Which SDK? You mean the ssh client? b. Any custom software is wiped from your account in about an hour, though. Also an SSH re-connect is not that big a deal, IMO. c. There are SSH client Chrome Apps

I guess I still don't see the point but maybe I'm assuming that one is already running a *nix and can either jump into the terminal there or connect a VM in the cloud very easily. The convenience doesn't seem that large.

imissmyjuno··on 71% of Americans Oppose Civil Asset Forfeiture
Not if you ask probing questions that also explain the term which they have. I do wonder about the 58% though. Does the question assume that a drug deal has definitely taken place? Personally I would only choose to follow the drugs if there was uncertainty about the crime having actually taken place.
imissmyjuno··on No One to Rescue Me from My Drinking
> protecting members from arrogance which everyone know 'precedes a fall'

I feel like nothing can _really_ protect you from members' arrogance if they were determined enough. The rule, in my mind, only creates a certain exclusiveness shrouded in secrecy, which as far dealing with alcoholism seems pretty pointless. If it really works then why not spread the word?

imissmyjuno··on The Cheap Phones Quietly Winning the U.S
i really want a Firefox OS ZTE but it seems impossible to obtain in Canada through any of the carriers.
imissmyjuno··on OnHub
Doesn't this only really buy you time until everyone around you has the same router? If everyone is constantly changing channels to compensate for neighbours I can't imagine the performance to be great, but perhaps I'm missing something.
imissmyjuno··on The Unemployable Programmer
I think the author brings up a few valid points but totally agreed, they think they are more productive than the "hipster "rockstar" programmer" while in the same breath saying they have been wasting life away at a desk for 10 years.
imissmyjuno··on What Ticketmaster is doing about technical debt

imissmyjuno··on Show HN: Free Company Logo API
That doesn't change the fact that it's a false positive…
imissmyjuno··on Why big-city barbecue is suddenly better than ever
a man cooks food in one place. a man in another place also cooks food using a similar technique. both men cook food well. both of the men care about being better than the other. an article is written.
imissmyjuno··on Chemicals in plastics alter the brains of baby boys, making them “more feminine”
> Girls' play

So a lack masculinity is equal to femininity? Yay gender binaries

imissmyjuno··on Why Spotify Pays So Little
Never mind the fact that it's just plain wrong to assume that "those bands NEVER used to get airplay". E.g. there are a number of significant artists on the label Drag City, such as Ty Segall and White, both of which get plenty of radio play, and most of the label's catalogue is not available to stream.
imissmyjuno··on Why Spotify Pays So Little
It doesn't negate the validity of wanting compensation for Spotify plays. Not being on a music service is one way to let your listeners know that the system is fucked and maybe make it change.
