Doesn’t OLED pixel layout not line up with modern text rendering engines? At least that’s what I believe I’ve read from reports on banding around text on Windows in particular that makes long-running text work a problem.

imbnwa··on Proposal: JavaScript Structs
>And I don't use prototypes, because they are unnecessary as well. Thus sparing me the inconvenience, and potential issues, of using 'this'.

Eh, prototypes share, instead of create, method references. I guess you can use delegate objects too though unless you're just doing pure functions.

>For work, the Mac I am using is way more powerful, and yet I find strange issues. Vivaldi dies if I open more than 60-70 tabs at once but it doesn't even really matter, because all the Chromium based browsers that have said "don't worry, we will keep maintaining Manifest V2" feel like they are on a "danger zone" to me.

WRT ad blocking, any serious Chromium-based browser that has vowed continued V2 support already has a performant ad blocker in its native code to cover their ass on this point you're making here (see: Brave; though also Orion, of the ones that I know, which is a Webkit browser). Of course, effective dynamic ad blocking isn't the only thing lost with Manifest V3 but definitely the most noticeable.

imbnwa··on Is English a “creole Language”?
>They definitely did think English was not a language worth engaging with. Even literate people in England barely thought of English as a language worth studying -- they wrote everything in Latin.

This... the point of the matter is that no one thought English was not a language in its own right. Not which landed aristocrat or educated clergymen wrote in English for other non-English speakers, which was the point of writing in Ecclesiastical Latin.

imbnwa··on Is English a “creole Language”?
>Here's my opinion: English is the result of a simplification of grammar caused by Old Norse and Old English crashing into each other with the same words but different grammar; then the French forced French usage in commerce, so most people started using a ton of French words with this English grammar. That last part sounds exactly like a creole.

Grandparent's point is that you're stretching the meaning of the term to a level of generality that applies to everything, therefore meaning nothing in particular.

Your point applies to French just as much as English: Gaulic Celtic speakers poorly adopt Latin after getting bull rushed by Romans, then mix in Frankish terms when the Romans' former allies take over; or how about Sicilian: a mash-up of Latin, Greek, Germanic, Arabic conquerors.

You have to go pretty far to find a language which isn't a fusion of other languages that results from different peoples entering into extended contact.

'Creole' is a word that only appears with its current meaning and history in the last 100 or so years, grandparent is simply preserving that particularity. Nothing more.

No one in 1200s Europe thought English or Sicilian were languages not worth engaging with as actual languages owing to modern racial connotations.

imbnwa··on The Waterfall Model was a straw man argument from the beginning (2015)
>It was definitely the dominant conceptual approach, but I think it's an open question how much it was actually followed versus just being the lies everybody agreed to tell the executive caste.

Its funny because that would the inverse of the current situation where exec proclaims their company is agile to external observers and potential hires, but the de facto regime could be anything

imbnwa··on The HTTP Query Method
They discuss this desire in the draft:

>A server MAY create or locate a resource that identifies the query operation for future use. If the server does so, the URI of the resource can be included in the Location header field of the response (see Section 10.2.2 of [HTTP]). This represents a claim that a client can send a GET request to the indicated URI to repeat the query operation just performed without resending the query parameters.

I'm honestly tempted for this very reason

I just don't undertand how Microsoft puts up the pithy 'Game Bar' and calls it a day. Put up a proper entertainment center UI for Windows that integrates stores, I shouldn't have to install Playnite or anything, which has its issues. Make it optional like PowerToys if you wanna be unrealistic about not 'cannibalizing Xbox sales' or some such nonsense. I should be able to game from any store or pop open Netflix without dealing with Windows 11's UI at all.

>There's also the matter of the user experience, the fact that a lot of people have a large catalog of games on the PS platform.

Playnite is no match at all for the PS5 interface, which also handles streaming apps, which Playnite does not from what I can tell. I use both and know very well. The last place a user wants to deal with buggy behavior (bug right now in Playnite where I won't be able to use controller to move to the top bar in Playnite) or a manual touch to get things going the right way (Windows multi-display behavior is insanely bad, you need a Playnite plugin to fix it so things always launch on the TV and not the monitor, but you have to assign this for each new game) is entertainment center UX.
