illiac786··on Germany’s RobCo hits $1B valuation
So you agree with the parent? It’s just a weird way of saying it.
illiac786··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
Maybe, but the emissions of older vehicles are, on average, very high when compared to newer ones. I expect it will be difficult/expensive to continue driving one.
illiac786··on US tells France and Germany to release diesel stocks or face US export ban
Considering how everything is now connected, every economy, etc. I seriously doubt any remaining island will be “happy”. Anyone on this island will know friends, family outside the island.
illiac786··on US tells France and Germany to release diesel stocks or face US export ban
That. I had a nightmare about Trump, very old, writing a memoir about how all of his shit was actually to save the planet, stop using ICE vehicles and force Europe to stand up for itself. And people were celebrating him.

I woke up, sweat-drenched.

illiac786··on Floci: Locally emulating any cloud service
Oh gosh, been such a long time
illiac786··on I'm coding directly in production with AI and I'm not looking back
Yeah, or, in a couple of years from now, it hasn’t happened. And _then_ “now what?” you.

But I agree it’s safer to wait and see. If the above turns out true, that will have been the wrong decision and there’s a cost associated with it, like all safer options.

illiac786··on Floci: Locally emulating any cloud service
You mean like Flikr, sonarr, tumblr, Waze…?
illiac786··on Trump Ramps Up Bid to Dismantle International Criminal Court
Mostly agree, but

> Nextcloud can substitute MS365

What? I hope that’s a joke. (I run/admin Nextcloud instances)

illiac786··on Heretic removes restrictions from language models
I mean, the argument could be made that if it wasn’t for these safeguards, everyone and your dog would be hacking the GPs camera.

I do agree the safeguards are only there out of liability concerns, nothing more.

But maybe it would be worse without them.

illiac786··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
Ah, thanks for the first one, that’s funny.

It is more of demonstration how strong other cities in Germany are and how Berlin almost stopped existing (economically speaking) for 70 years than of being a burden in my view, but this is a detail you can throw in any conversation with berlin people to drive them nuts =)

2/ true example, yes. Then check what Germany pays to get power from the north down to Bavaria. And who pays for this? Unfair all around. I’m of course holding every single Bavarian personally responsible for this.

I dislike how you generalise from economical examples to the character of berlin inhabitants. It’s obviously wrong but also just not nice.

illiac786··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
Is there data that market rate has zero margin left when it comes to renting?

Genuinely interested. Where I live, I have received direct reports that there is almost zero margin between building cost and market price (buying). But buying and then renting still has a good ROI, although a longer term one.

I don’t get it, it goes against the market self regulation, but real estate is very twisted in this respect.

illiac786··on Far-left party wins Berlin election, pledging to nationalise housing
So many shocking statements, so little sources…

I’d almost believe the burden one, but you just piled and made the whole thing sound very emotional and not very objective.

If you have any kind of stats supporting this, I genuinely would be interested.

illiac786··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Well, based on your last sentence these decisions very much make sense.

But I agree with the other comments out there. It will get ugly and they will loose. I am convinced there many heavy weights just waiting for the right time to hit google hard on this. While I don’t know all of them and don’t like the ones I think I know, I will sing and dance when it’ll happen.

And no, Apple is no better.

illiac786··on Show HN: Microsoft Office running with Wine on Linux with no virtualization
What? And this got approved by ISO?!?
illiac786··on HarnessTax: How Much Does the Harness Matter for Coding Agents?
It’s more efficient, no? Token wise at least.
illiac786··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
How can it be stronger with a significantly reduced GDP in total (UK GDP removed)? It was a loss for both sides in my view…
illiac786··on Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography
How is stealing/extracting a private key alien technology? Or even more simple, subpoena a private key to create fake authentic compromising pictures of pesky political opponents.
illiac786··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
Inexorably is not the word I would use. It’s hard work. UK is a good example of how fragile it remains, even after decades of membership.
illiac786··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
Is it what happened at Nike? I did not folly it very much
illiac786··on Homebrew 7.0.0
My point was “why do you assume it’s one of the two”.
illiac786··on Homebrew 7.0.0
I don’t get these questions asking if it’s codex or Claude – I see them often. Does it matter? There are other options out there also, it feels strange to ask this. Like asking “is your car a Toyota or a BMW?“
illiac786··on Homebrew 7.0.0
What is the impact of being tier 2?

I’ll update Xcode, but I will definitely not install macOS 27.0

illiac786··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
But I was asking about _logging_ training data, I don’t understand how your answer relates to my question. Maybe I’m being obtuse.
illiac786··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
I wouldn’t say obvious, no. It’s what I observe, yes. But I have some doubt about my observations scaling up to a valid statistics. Lots of folks out there are not techies yet do care about the environment. I can’t see them caring much about grapheneOS, but maybe I’m wrong.
illiac786··on iPhone Duo
it’s not rational, but having a glossy and mate screen on the same device would feel weird to me I think.
illiac786··on iPhone Duo
interesting, I didn’t notice it also hat 1TB storage and 12GB RAM. But the size is maginally smaller only. Still, I agree, would probably have been a better fit.
illiac786··on Saving money on Google Photos with Immich: Your own personal photo storage
I am really not following. If “anyone” can write a GUI, how does moving it away from the devs reduce load? Either it’s a lot of work for devs and then even more so for “anyone” or it’s easy for everyone.
illiac786··on The Waymo effect: how AI is quietly making research less collaborative
This only works short and medium term. Long term benefits have very little traction.
illiac786··on The Waymo effect: how AI is quietly making research less collaborative
I think there will be a rebalancing, and it might painful first for some. Confidence in LLM for highly complex tasks, very lots of context, most of all when this context isn’t in a single place or simply isn’t digitalised, will go down.

But right now, it’s still the shiny new toy
