I live in Madrid and my experience hasn't been even near that bad.

I have only gone to emergency services once, luckily, and it was a very brief wait. For more routine procedures, waiting times are even shorter.

On the other hand. I have had some trouble when I've needed certain specialities which have less available staff. Some relatives of mine have had to wait months for surgeries (not too urgent ones, luckily).

It's an imperfect system. Some hospitals are in terrible shape or overwhelmed, and some services or specialties have long waiting times. Many doctors are overworked and underpaid. But still I think the experience for most people is very positive.

Now I feel terrible for bad-mouthing an apparently respected company...

I could swear I've seen those "Your Mac is having a problem" ads that fake being a system error trying to get me into Clean My Mac 3, but may be it was MacKeeper.

I use Windows, but way less than Mac and Linux, so I might not be very up-to-date. I use CCleaner regularly and it saves several gigabytes of disk space every time, do most Windows user not need/desire CCleaner now?

He's recommending Clean My Mac. I am a bit out of my medium on Mac, even though I use it 8hrs a day, but I was under the impression Clean My Mac is little more than bullshit, albeit with very effective and somewhat shady marketing practices.

A more charitable interpretation could be that all that "filler" is used to motivate you, because just reading about this methods won't be enough to actually help most people.

I'm actually glad. Everytime I talk with people about books I'm saddened by how little non-fiction people read, they only want to read fun novels.

I love fiction, especially fantasy and sci-fi. Reading just fiction or reading just non-fiction are both a pity, you are missing out on great experiences.

I am under the impression that fiction has won, so seeing non-fiction win around here feels good to me. May be my impression is mistaken? May be that's just where I live?

Not very familiar with the Java world yet. I've heard Android now supports at least some features from Java 8, but would this library work in an Android app?

A related question: Should you do them? They don't seem useful in tiny companies, where you can just see how everyone is doing, apart from informal "What is worrying you" conversations. How big a company you have to be for them to be useful/necessary?

Actually, people who are very deep into the "get off my lawn" phase of their life, that is old people, are generally not the greatest typists. For them, the ability to talk instead of type, everywhere and not just in google search (which already has this) seems like a huge help.

I'll never use it. It's completely useless to me. But if my grandma actually did anything else than Facebook on her computer I'd show this to her.

Helping (a little bit) to fix the problem wouldn't have been that much of an inconvenience, and if we customers were more like that this kind of behaviour wouldn't be possible, or at least harder.

Being very competitive doesn't mean you don't play for fun, and doesn't have to kill fun. Being judgmental of what other people like, I think, does a little.

My first smartphone was a Palm Pre. I then switched to some of the first kind-of-mature android phones, like the HTC Desire and the Galaxy S2.

I remember feeling like I had taken a huge leap forward in hardware, but a backwards leap in software.

Even today I miss some things of WebOS. WebOS nailed the experience of having two documents of the same app. Each "card" could be a document, or a view into something, and each app could have several of those.

A short while ago I tried to write an email for which I needed to look often at another previous email. This is trivial on any desktop, but was a mayor pain on the mobile device I tried it (can't remember if Android tablet or iPad, but I doubt it's very different).

(If I recall correctly, Android today allows apps to expose several "Cards", or several views at the same time in the task switcher, but no apps do. For a while Chrome had an option to treat every tab as an independent card, which I liked but was messy for many people...

Every time I use a mobile device for anything serious, I think "This would be so much more comfortable and natural on Mac/Windows/Linux" every 5 minutes. May be it's just I'm antiquated.)

Now that I think of it, what will happen with the Unity HUD (`alt` key brings a search hud that indexes the app's menu, kind of like Sublime/Atom/VSCode's Control+Shift+P command palette)? Will they port it as a Shell add-on?

This looks fantastic to learn what some of those mean, but just to save time when using flexbox I love this http://the-echoplex.net/flexyboxes/. It gives you all the code for what you set up. Every time I need flexbox, I use that and then tweak a few details, takes me a minute.

Having to refactor a lot of code to keep up with the changes, even if given enought notice, is a real issue. Developers' time costs a lot of money.

No, but most of the codebase can be reused for the mobile app using phonegap/cordova.

I hate this way of seeing "webbies" as a lesser kind of engineer. I've been on both sides, doing low-level development in C, full stack on .Net, and now Node.js, and I choose the tool that better serves me at each point.

Many of us choose to use JS/Node/Electron because of practical reasons, not because we are "too scared". You may think we are misguided, and we might very well be, but there's no need to be so smug about it.

Did you use those new drivers nVidia just released for 10xx GPUs? I'll be building my first hackintosh soon and that's got me worried.

Journalists may have information that the state may want to know. For instance, you'd want to know if a new Snowden is leaking info to more Guardian journalists. It's wrong and worrisome, of course, but I'm not surprised in the least.

What is more likely, Google going away or Google changing their rankings in a way that makes you drop 5 positions? That's the risk of depending on Google, imho.

I'd rather use the less-strong statement I need to make a point. It is still a common belief that not eating meat is in some way less healthy, because plants have lower-quality proteins.

No, but there is still a big difference between a new language with a still-small community, but with ambition and some early attempts to apply it at "real" problems, vs a brainfuck-like, just for kicks language.

Still, we can do something about it right now. We may need meat, but we don't need meat in every meal; if we reduced the consumption of meat, we could conceivably switch to more expensive, less efficient, more humane ways to grow animals.

If you can afford it, you can also only buy meat from non-intensive farming. Or stop eating meat all together.

I just don't think it's morally right to wait for a solution that may not ever come, or not for a long time. I eat veggie fake-meat often, and sometimes it's great, but it's not close to real meat and I don't know that it'll ever be accepted by most of the population.

You can just disable that rule and use the rest of the airbnb preset, which is what I'd recommend. I hate semicolons, and I do a couple of things that I like but airbnb apparently doesn't, so I override those settings on my .eslintrc and use the rest as a great foundation.

I think it has solved the problem for me, but still is not a good solution for anyone who would answer "What's a terminal?"

I love having a terminal with bash and use it constantly, but I don't think it should be needed for the system to just go on working.
