Where I come from, if they went back and looked at the years you were only earning what would normally be employment income from the single employer, they would classify it a "personal services corporation" and move any income in the company you declared as corporate income into your personal hands, tax you at personal rates and make you pay interest on that difference for the time you had it misclassified.

Your jurisdiction might not do that, but I'd be damn careful and if you are liable that way, they might let you off the hook on the interest if you went back and declared it correctly before they do.

ikidd··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
Like copyright on training input? Fair use has done a lot heavier of a lift on that than it would every have to do on opensource, license prohibiting it or not.
ikidd··on EV Sales Are Booming in Europe with Gasoline at $10 a Gallon
The Jeffrey Epstein Memorial War is the worst thing to ever hit the American auto industry and workers, since that industry is so far behind on EV adoption they'll never catch up to the Asian manufacturers.

It'll kill them, the Big 3 should be losing their everloving minds over it.

>disable copy

What fresh hell is that?

ikidd··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
How would you possibly enforce that?
ikidd··on Tell HN: Codex Is Down [fixed]
We just fix the shit we broke while we could farm.
ikidd··on Brazil Bans Online Betting
And the algos they use to drive people harder to gamble are particularly pernicious. It isn't just putting slot machines in their way when they're walking to the washroom. It's high-pressure psychological tactics that are hard for non-addictive people to ignore, let alone gambling addicts.

It's utterly evil, and destroys lives and families. This shit needs to go.

ikidd··on CAPTCHAs don't prove you're human – they prove you're American (2017)
Interestingly, Santa is an American thing because of the early Dutch influence using Sinterklaas.
ikidd··on How we learned to stop worrying and love campus surveillance
Yep, my bad. I got lazy and relied on PPs spelling.
ikidd··on How we learned to stop worrying and love campus surveillance
That was the reference to the download server in the closet.

Just a reminder: Carmen Ortiz judicially murdered Aaron Schwartz in order to unsuccessfully launch a political career.

ikidd··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
NT4.0 in 2007? That wasn't even very late. I was replacing NT4 servers into the early 10s. Car dealerships were terrible for keeping that crap around.
ikidd··on White House Says Access Is a 'Privilege' in Court Filing Defending Media Ban
You don't have to be a redneck moron to enjoy the things you can do that require a gun. There's plenty of hunters and sports shooters that realize that the authoritarians will eventually restrict guns to keep themselves safe.
ikidd··on I'm Tired of the AI Tone
I find using an AI for the first draft useful enough of a kick in the ass to actually get the thing written, which I've probably been procrastinating about for hours.

I rewrite it from there, and it's completely different by the time I'm done because it's version is terrible enough that it annoys me into correcting it.

ikidd··on How my e-reader lost its stripes
I believe someone built a Linux print driver that let you print straight to these and it would upload the file.
ikidd··on Bye, Bye GitHub
Forgejo has Runners that you can install on another server and register with Forgejo Actions. There might be 3rd party Runners you can pay to use, I've just run my own on a hardened VM.
ikidd··on Anthropic's best AI model struggles to attract users as cheaper tools thrive
And they've hobble Fable and Opus so hard with their safety guardrails, I ask innocuous questions and tasks and they get flagged so often I gave up on it. I can get all the work I need done in GPT5.5 or 5.6 without the hassle.

I just kept a $20 plan going for use on my phone.

ikidd··on A joke domain purchase turned in geopolitical warfare
Actually, it wasn't unreasonable. If the guy caused the damage while picking up a sonde, to know who's sonde it was would help identify the culprit.
ikidd··on Judge sets framework for Nine PBS to retrieve archival data
This is so much their own damn fault. I have no idea what level of utter incompetency it takes to think that a cloud storage system is a safe way to store the only copy of your data. And as you said, on top of that all the warning signs were there that you need to take a backup right away.

Holy hell, I wanted to see them get this suit dismissed just to rub it into their faces what mindless idiots were in charge of this fiasco.

ikidd··on Judge sets framework for Nine PBS to retrieve archival data
This station was clearing over a million dollars after expenses, and they couldn't be arsed to take a backup of their data on this cloud service. I have a hard time feeling much sympathy for them. And now Iron Mountain has to referee the data being recovered without handing over others data in the process.

The utter cluelessness all around from start to finish is impressive.

ikidd··on New Orleans is using AI to triage 911 calls in case of backlog
Your approximate location is automatically determined by cell tower triangulation and fed to emergency services when you call. It's very common now.
ikidd··on US beef prices have soared but farmers aren't making more money
Tariffs I'm guessing. A fencepost in Canada is CAD$8 so $6. A roll of barbwire is US$70.

See UFA.com for Canadian prices. Keep in mind, there's a lot of variance in what people prefer to use, I'm just giving what I've always used and while prices have gone up, it sure hasn't gone up 2.5X here.

ikidd··on Pass the Passkey: A Novel Attack Surface in Passwordless Authentication

ikidd··on Show HN: I created a project management system
Wow, what a ignorant response to someone that was giving you genuine feedback.

Do better.

ikidd··on Zitron: "Everyone Has Been Sold a Lie" on AI [video]
I don't think Zitron has been right about anything in the last 5 years. But he talks a good talk.
ikidd··on Hunter-gatherers introduced fish to a mountain lake 7000 years ago
Did they have writing and kept records that we've found? That's the "recorded" part.
ikidd··on Elevated errors on Claude Opus 5
Hermes seems to pick up after a stoppage. At least I've never had to push it again, it might just take a long time to finish a task and then I'll see the messages in the transcript.
ikidd··on Show HN: Proxmox -> Share your host's Bluetooth with a VM over the network
Exactly like all the "community-scripts" that were started by a fellow that passed away a couple years ago.

I've been railing against the install one-liners for years to obviously poor effect.

ikidd··on Stripe in talks to buy OpenRouter for ~10B
Nothing about this bubble makes sense. Why should this?
ikidd··on LG monitors silently install software through Windows Update without consent
You could exhaust Windows networking or filesystem features in an afternoon. Linux could give you a career.

I spent 20 years supporting Windows server and server applications like Exchange, SQL Server, IIS, etc, etc, and when I left that industry and got back to Linux, I was absolutely floored about what I had been missing. No wonder Windows had it's lunch eaten in virtually every facet by Linux server applications.
