Our innate sense of justice, of how things ought to be, clashes with how things are. Thus we have divine retribution. We ought not die, but we do, so after we die we live supernaturally. Dissonance can give way to religion, generally speaking.
I understand concern trolling. I understand trolling. What I don't understand is how my post is trolling. I meant what I posted. It was in earnest. It seems like someone can say that a divergent opinion or criticism of religion is trolling here. Not all criticism is flame-warring. When I think flame-warring I think no-content shitposting and slurs. But if people are having a reasoned argument, even if it's not entirely cordial, I don't think that constitutes a flame-war.
People aren't allowed to comment on religion at all? Unless it's a positive comment that entices no debate? A discussion of religion is relevant to the article. I'm getting an icky feeling that if my post was directed at any other religion than Islam there wouldn't be an issue.
Christian "fundamentalism" is quite benign in this country. Aside from the issue of abortion and perhaps stem cell research can you list some travesties caused by Christianity in America? The fastest growing religion is non religion.
I think critiques of American bumbkins is an American tradition. Hawthorne to Twain to Mencken to etc. It is the American organism hashing itself. It is healthy and has helped to make this country what it is. However there is a dangerous trend today to severely ignore the lack of this in other nations whose own bumbkins self-immolate while those who could be Twains or Asimovs are immolated. But hey, say what you want about about everyone if it makes you feel good.
