igor_akhmetov··on Is Germany's gold safe in New York ?
The EU considers breaking the rules and confiscating state and private assets normal to apply some political pressure on the opponent. They should expect US to do the same, because why not, especially under Trump. Given this, it's stupid to hold state's gold reserves in the US.

The EU themselves "froze" (essentially confiscated) Russian assets, both state and private.

That's one of the reasons the housing market is so inflated. The goverment forces people to invest into housing.

You got it backwards. US makes it impossible for skilled migrants to come and settle down. EU countries make it much easier.

igor_akhmetov··on JetBrains forces AI freemium plugin that cannot be completely removed into IDEs
Copilot is a 2-year-old product, it's expected that many people use it. I agree it currently may be better than AI Assistant. But LLM functionality is here to stay in IDEs, and most people will use it in one way or another.

Nobody forces stuff onto you. You can disable everything with just one checkbox.

igor_akhmetov··on JetBrains forces AI freemium plugin that cannot be completely removed into IDEs
Please finally read the issue you linked. This happens when you disable the plugin and immediately uninstall a plugin update. If you just disable the plugin it stays disabled.
igor_akhmetov··on JetBrains forces AI freemium plugin that cannot be completely removed into IDEs
Thanks!

I guess the main reason the plugin is enabled by default is to promote it. AI tools are becoming an important part of the development workflow, with a majority of developers using a chat LLM or Copilot (https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/devecosystem-2023/ai/). So the functionality offered by the plugin might be interesting to a large part of the user base. A non-bundled plugin would not be discovered by most users. And for organizations it looks like the AI assistant is disabled by default.

Regarding the direction - LLMs are usually used as a service right now, so there's not much choice. At the same time, JetBrains is also working on local smart completion workflows like https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/14823-full-line-code-co.... Hopefully at some point there'll also be an option to use a local LLM with the AI Assistant.

Have you actually read the description of this issue? It's a UX bug with the uninstall action.

A lot of text and it's still not clear what you're trying to say. Just disable the plugin if you don't need it or don't find it useful?

igor_akhmetov··on Preview of CLion Nova, which uses the ReSharper C++/Rider C++ language engine
This is a complete change of the language engine. The new engine brings many new features and correctness fixes, and it's additionally now running out-of-process, which should result in better performance.
igor_akhmetov··on Preview of CLion Nova, which uses the ReSharper C++/Rider C++ language engine
And now all of them except CLion Classic use the same underlying language engine, and the plan is to supersede Classic with Nova. If you need to use VS choose R++. Otherwise, use Rider for MSBuild projects or CLion for CMake projects.

igor_akhmetov··on Problems of C, and how Zig addresses them
I really want to like Zig. Honest question: why is Zig so resistant to some kind of RAII? RAII is the biggest improvement that C++ brings over C. Leaving it out of a system programming language 50 years later is just strange? And no, manual defer is not the solution.
igor_akhmetov··on .NET Hot Reload Support via CLI
Note that Rider already supports C/C++ on Windows with the Rider for Unreal Engine fork. This fork is planned to get merged into mainline Rider sometime next year.
