igetspam··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
That is a problem but it’s definitely not the root. The root is our increasingly high tolerance for violence, especially in schools. We should also stop shying away from the gendered aspects of the thing: this is done by boys and men FAR more than girls and women. We just don’t like to talk about it.

We need to address violent tendencies in males and our ludicrous willingness to not see the reality of it.

igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
File a feature request! ;)
igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
Check out floci-az. I haven’t touched it but I know it’s there.
igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
You’d think that but it doesn’t seem to be the case. I do a lot of offline development and the only way it used to be possible was localstack but that’s AWS only. The open source community is the only interested party, it seems. Thankfully, there’s a lot of contribution happening in this space. Because I have need, I make a lot of my own contributions. I’m doing full stack cloud development against GCP without ever leaving my device.
igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
I use tf with floci and floci-gcp, weekly…
igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
Yeah. Stupid really didn’t want to type that. :)
igetspam··on Fakecloud: Local AWS cloud emulator for integration tests
But how does it compare to floci, which already picked up with localstack left off?
igetspam··on Bringing the cybersecurity capabilities of Claude Mythos 5 to more defenders
Every one of their models has become absolutely useless, for validation of bugs and the remediations. Unless I’m doing straight forward dev work, I’ve turned to alternate models and harnesses I’ve started building on my own. The frontier models have apparently become so good at security that they can’t be bothered to discuss it with laymen…
igetspam··on Protobuf has LSP support
Sounds like a you problem. If someone did me a service and told me I was welcome, my take would be entirely based on the delivery of the phrase. I don’t even know what to do with the gum analogy because that’s just nonsense.
igetspam··on Eight Newly Produced MQ-9 Reaper Drones Destroyed in Iranian Strike
Not if the funding is blocked.
igetspam··on Protobuf-py: Protobuf for Python, without compromises
Can you be sure Google’s ${anything} will be around in 6 months? They have a decades long habit of dumping things that have major use but aren’t novel internally. Worrying about the next 10 years isn’t something you can honestly do when you your argument includes Google owning a thing.

Bias: I fought for things like Reader from the inside. If it doesn’t move needles, it goes away.

igetspam··on Lindsey Graham has died
I don’t know the appropriate way to celebrate this but I most definitely will. If there’s a hell, he’s going to find out what it means. (I don’t believe there is a hell.)
igetspam··on My AI-built PHP engine in Rust passes 17% of PHP-src tests, renders WordPress
AI has helped us all lose the plot because now we don’t just know better than everyone else, we can prove it by project managing our better versions of the same things.

What I find really great is that we’re only a prompt or two away from proper docs for these novel solutions but we still don’t make them and if we do, we definitely don’t read them first.

igetspam··on If AI writes code, should the session be part of the commit?
Yes.

igetspam··on Show HN: Sshsync – CLI tool to run shell commands across multiple remote servers
I’m surprised no one has mentioned pdsh yet. Piped to dshbak and output was grouped by response. I’d probably use a config management tool for anything more than simple commands now but that tool was indispensable for managing our fleet, when we used to actually connect to machines.
igetspam··on Deep Musk
Welp, I now have a new Bluesky account just for generating satirical misinformation. Thanks for the inspiration!
igetspam··on xAI has acquired X, xAI now valued at $80B
It’s actually more, right? Because it’s $33b+$12b of debt, which means he’s saying it’s worth $45b.

> An AI-enabled juicer that squeezes single-serve bags of pre-juiced juices

This is why juicero failed! No AI!

igetspam··on UnitedHealthcare CEO fatally shot in midtown Manhattan
Or it could just be a single action pistol, as noted in the article. They’re not common but there are a handful of them that are relatively easy to obtain. Competitive shooters use them and it seems that Seals are sometimes issued single action pistols too.
igetspam··on House panel concludes that Covid-19 pandemic came from a lab leak
Politics.

My main reservation for not buying the outcome of a house panel is qualification. These are just elected politicians. How are any of us supposed to trust that they can grok science? The whole thing would have to come at ELI5 level simplicity.

igetspam··on My son (9 yrs old) used plain JavaScript to make a game, and wants your feedback
I would recommend different colors. It’s a little difficulty to read the text. Super cool though! He should be very proud.
igetspam··on 8 million turkeys will be thrown in the trash this Thanksgiving
Where’s the crazy part? Lots of people are vegan or vegetarian. Many cultures the world over don’t consume meat. Is it because she chose to change her diet? Because she chose it for ethical and environmental reasons? Or because you don’t agree?

I for one think turkey tastes like crap. Never understood gluttony as a holiday. On the other hand, I think turkeys are funny as hell and love having them on my farm.

The number of animals we toss in a bin is pretty crazy. You wouldn’t put that many dogs in the trash and think it was okay, would you? Is it just because you assume they don’t taste as good?

igetspam··on Who Is Jay Graber, the CEO of Bluesky?
You seem under qualified to make this assertion. On what basis do you think you can make this claim?
igetspam··on Tesla excluded from EV buyer credits in California proposal
Are you a billionaire?
igetspam··on Tesla excluded from EV buyer credits in California proposal
So you’re asking if the majority of Californians would gladly see Musk be excluded from these benefits? Seems like the recent election results would be a pretty good indicator of how that would go. And assuming that they would, then you’re okay with it, right?

Also, don’t confuse gerrymandered elections with overwhelming support. Texas turned disenfranchising people into an art form. What the voting lines say and what the people want are rarely aligned. The Texas government knows this. The people know this (ex Texan here). Its cleverly and not secretly crafted to make it nearly impossible for the state to go blue.

igetspam··on Qodo Merge integration with Jira — ensure code complies with ticket
Really? I just read the product page and it generally looks useful. It puts the context where the work is being done and reduces the need to go back and forth between GitHub and jira. The only immediate negative I see is that it encourages becoming a ticket factory.
igetspam··on Texas approves Bible-infused curriculum for public schools
Why did this get killed? Surely the state of education in this country is a valid topic to a community of smart people.
igetspam··on Vivek Ramaswamy on X: "Will entire agencies be deleted? Answer: yes
No. Nobody voted for a non government agency, run by Musk and Ramaswamy, to be part of the decision making process for the government.
