ifqwz··on Tumblr and why ‘the porn-friendly era of the internet is over’
One of their victories is you equating "far left/right" to "calls for political violence"
ifqwz··on Google engineers joked about how incognito mode isn't incognito
If that's what your younger immature self wanted to do, I don't see why the browser should get in the way.
ifqwz··on What happens when you donate your body to science
This is what happens: https://www.lavanguardia.com/local/madrid/20140519/544080759...
ifqwz··on Microsoft's AR Headset Was a Complete Disaster During a Military Test
It's the future (or perhaps the present) for those who don't install ad blockers.
ifqwz··on Tumblr and why ‘the porn-friendly era of the internet is over’
When I said "wrong thoughts" I was thinking politics - far left and far right, generally. But yes, also porn, copyright, etc.

Platforms such as Telegram have to make it impossible to access certain channels/groups/bots when you use an iphone or they risk getting deleted from the app store. nsfw channels on discord are also inaccessible from iphones.

Apps such as gab were banned completely for not complying.

This is just a few examples of apps that I know of (I don't use that many) --- there probably are many more examples that I'm not aware of.

ifqwz··on Tumblr and why ‘the porn-friendly era of the internet is over’
It's not the porn-friendly era. It's the free speech-friendly era. It's not only pornography that is banned. The wrong thoughts are banned from the app store as well.

Anonimity and conformity are important features for most boards; even though users can choose not to be anonymous by using what is called a tripcode others will call you a "tripfag" and ignore or deride your posts.
ifqwz··on A Microsoft blunder opened millions of PCs to potent malware attacks
As Raymond would say, you're already on the other side of the airtight hatchway. This is a non-story.
ifqwz··on Apple gets $19M fine in Brazil for not selling iPhones with charger
I have noticed that those who complain about apple the loudest haven't ever owned or even used anything made by apple.
ifqwz··on Wikipedia is not short on cash
False dichotomy.
ifqwz··on Ocean plastics: How much do rich countries contribute by shipping their waste?
What's the point in making something transparent, if it isn't so it can be fixed?
ifqwz··on Wikipedia is not short on cash
Of course there is an alternative... not donating to either of those corrupt businesses.
ifqwz··on U.S. Army Chooses Google Workspace
Europeans being forced to use inferior products is not the win that you think it is.
ifqwz··on Kitchen Renovation ideas animation using Stable Diffusion [video]
How come this submission is a link and has text at the same time?
ifqwz··on Dutch employee fired by U.S. firm for shutting off webcam awarded €75K in court
Seems an appropriate word...

"Insubordination is the act of willfully disobeying a lawful order of one's superior."

Your boss is your superior, so disobeying what he asks of you is insubordination.

ifqwz··on / vs. \ confuses me a lot, how do you remember them?
This reminds me of people who even in adulthood confuse "left" and "right" - I have always wondered how that happens.
ifqwz··on Ask HN: Is Substack the new Medium?
Top bloggers aren't stupid enough to put their blogs in someone else's platform.
ifqwz··on Ask HN: Is Substack the new Medium?
You seem to be saying that it's okay to put up a metered paywall as long as the articles are good. You are missing the point then. Substack is going to eat you alive. But I guess you got a good salary! Enjoy it while it lasts.
ifqwz··on New US Executive Order on EU-US data transfers unlikely to satisfy EU law
We can't use google analytics for example.
ifqwz··on Gmail 2FA causes the homeless to permanently lose access 3 times a year
>Unhoused people tend to get their phones through the "Obamaphone" program, which means that replacing a lost or stolen phone results in a completely new phone number.

Maybe that's part of the issue. Why recycle numbers so aggressively? Give the user a few months to recover their old number if they can prove they are the same person.

ifqwz··on Gmail 2FA causes the homeless to permanently lose access 3 times a year
I hate services that forcibly enable 2fa on you. Even if you have it disabled, if they detect that you have changed browsers, IP addresses, etc. they make you go through 2fa whether you want it or not. Or just lock you out, or even suspend your account. Fuck that.
ifqwz··on TV backlight compensation (2020)
Most people will tell you that their monitor is flawless, then you do simple tests like that one and the monitor shows that it has severe issues and they respond "uh I never noticed, well I don't care". Which is precisely why manufacturers can get away with the shit that they sell.
ifqwz··on Excess Death Rates for Republicans and Democrats During the Covid-19 Pandemic
I assume that republicans are on average older than democrats. If so, has that been taken into account when making this study?
ifqwz··on TV backlight compensation (2020)
The quality of computer monitors is appalling - after buying and returning several monitors because of quality issues, I briefly considered doing this system-wide to fix colour uniformity problems. Eventually I chose to keep my old monitor instead. It has uniformity problems as well but it doesn't cost me $1000 extra to keep.

But it's a damn shame that you can't throw enough money at manufacturers to make them make monitors without glaring QA problems. No matter how much you spend they sell you shit.
