Hopefuly Thomas gets a bit more convincing scaredata for the Lambda Variant.
As a German, it's cringe-worthy to me that a German state-run media outlet runs such a piece. The Crown Enstate Entity isn't "mysterious" at all if you engage with a country's history. But I think this is the spirit of our relations going forward since the Brits decided to not go with the program.
Also: The gap in housing affordability isn't driven by a palace outside of London, or some sea-floor property. It is driven by city governments and their "Highwaymaning" via zoning and more.
What ethics are you talking about?
The ones where they silenced "Far-Right" Sceptics of Corona-Measures in Europe? A rapper responding with "ok, dude" to a trans person? HK Virologist Li Meng-Yan? The government of Hungary?
Or where they permanently ban conservative cartoonists, the MyPillow guy, Project Veritas – but not the Ayatollah?
AFAIC there's nothing special here to see. Standard Twitter Behaviour.
Also OP's critique is misguided, as there is no specific Indian law Twitter would have broken (according to the article) if it hadn't complied with the government's request. Likewise, there was no law forcing twitter to permanently ban the accounts I've mentioned.
Twitter is just a typical SV org, laden with upper-class virtue-signalers, who couldn't even notice their own bigotry if the stench of human-feces covered San Francisco actually made it into their comfy homes.
Apparently googling things is extremely hard if the search results confront ones own bias...

(Even the pro Energiewende org “agora” has a problem hiding the facts in their charts (https://www.agora-energiewende.de/service/agorameter/chart/p...)
Germany is exporting so much energy because (and only because) without the base load provided by conventional power plants it’s energy grid routinely is on the brink of collapse, whenever there are weather based shifts in renewable energy production.
This causes the electricity price to routinely go negative because our neighboring countries don’t want to have it either.
What a failure. And what a failure that people still fall for that exportweltmeister lie
It's not coincidal that said studies either lack specifics in some areas, while being over-specific in others or are cited in the same manner (leaving out details where it helps the political camp, being over-specific in others).
One can already see this turning up in general rebuttals of agriculture, or citations that leave out the critical detail that soil erosion is caused by corn specifically, not crops in general. Or which kind of geographic reagion was used. Or how well farmes tilled their land (see the picture about erosion down-hill: its just a question of the right tilling-technique to prevent that from happening).
And as a last resort you can always toss it into some meta study to "prove" your point.
A complete transaction history for users which were attracted by alleged anonymity?!
The ability to extort even if you just traded with someone who’ve traded with someone shady?
The possibility to thread ceasing of wealth without one judge approval needed?
Ability to manipulate the price by extorting whales?
The ability to extort miners because all of them store and share child pornography via the blockchain?
What could possibly go wrong...
Say the policies are lifted and suicides go up again, will the rejoicing ones account for that as well? Of course not, they will rather gaslight the argument by blaming the increase on the lifting
Which is just another reason – maybe even a responsibility of every web dev - to stop using chrome.
The most trodden down workers of the first world - poor, starving programmers - who for the most part voluntarily passed on high salaries so they could "be a force for the good" and by joining news outlets [1], are stadning up to the powers that be (no one).
This argument isn't exactly less weird.
So if I get you right, there is a Cabal of elites in say the Netherlands and Austria that is pushing invasions on say Iraq while simoultaniously cutting down on domestic security so they can later, say 15-30 years, rake in the profits by increasing spending on domestic security.
Quite the detour for ruining your country half the way, don't you think?

Note that this ironic achievement of the woke movment is already 15 years old. I doubt there was much improvement on the logic-front since then.
"The groups cover everything from munition shortages to the resilience of society, including whether citizens are “ready to accept the level of casualties we have never seen since world war two”, says one participant."
…isn't at all what "NATO did" in any of its training maneuvers.
Hey China, your actions are going to have consequences. Wether it's the plastic you're dumping in the onceans by the dozens of fleets, or adding more coal energy plants last year than all existing coal plants of Europe combined.
Of course it all depends who is the accuser (e.g. US accusing Europe of burning too much (Russian) gas or garbage exports from the first to the third world).
And if this rant isn't getting me downvoted enough: It's also not good for Cryptocurrencies.
If Amazon hadn’t acquiesced to the left wing (eg. by taking down Parker) there would have been an equal likelihood that a left wing extremist would plot an attack.
Even more so, if a would-be terrorist can see data centers as virtually zero-casualty targets.
Not to mention state actors who will have an easier time „nudging“ domestic actors into „standing up for what’s right“ due to the low moral barrier.
Their users? Their content creators? Or rather their staff?
All 3 groups could be possible reasons. But given how little median content creators matter to the organization, users and staff are more likely.
But if it were the users, then why buy Joe Rogan's users at all? Especially at a record braking price?
This makes me believe it's more likely staff.
If that is the case one has to wonder: is this generally the sad mental state of tech workers? Or is it rather a few employees who, emboldened by cancel-culture, will toss their political agenda around the office while other employees, intimidated by cancel-culture, shy away from calling out the obvious BS?
> it is by design
It certainly wasn't "designed" for geographically flexible entities such as Amazon that didn't even exist 30 years ago.
When ever a new kind of entity fits in loop holes that weren't open one technological advance earlier it has any interest to lobby politicians to keep that niche/grey-area open. That can and should be called cheating.
On the other hand: Wait wasn't it Amazon who cheated on taxes like no other company (compared in size)?
After the union shenanigans, his biasedness in the elections or well deserved PR desasters such as the contest for a new headquarter (what a surprise it went where it can influence policy most), I'm a bit allergic to being nudged to see his moves as all too altruistic.
Increasing corporate taxes raises the burden across the board, for competitors and possible future ones. Meanwhile Amazon can afford to have its accounting adjusted to mitigate the impact more efficiently than any competitor could.
It cements his position.
AFAIK there isn't much awareness about this leak amongst most of FB's userbase: Less tech-savvy and 40yrs ++.
That’s a bit strange because, well, the vocabulary only makes for one part of a language.
It completely leaves out things like phonetics or most importantly grammar.
If Yiddish isn’t written in Hebrew letters most Germans can read it. And hearing Yiddish (if you still can) is usually closer to modern high German attuned ears than say Suisse German.
What also feels construed is the part about the diminutives: The Yiddish Hershele example is exactly how people form diminutives in south west Germany till this day, exactly the area where Yiddish originated. Yiddish diminutives are such a direct pointer towards their German origin, that most non-southwest Germans that don’t use these diminutives would read the Yiddish ones and think a Swabian/Hessian/Palatine/Badisn wrote them.
The same holds true with regards the „Yiddish Slavic syntax“: Unlike what the author claims multiple negation is still used in south west Germany (where Yiddish comes from) as well as Bavaria.
It’s either intent (bad, but normal as the field of linguistics is often highly politicized - is it a coincidence that Chomsky studied this?) or just lack of looking at the „German component“ because it is less exciting than exploring the „Polish component“ (understandable).
Without the fuzz over enough time passed we, even NSA experts, seem to forget about those traps.
The moral of the story for us techies: Don't wane people in anonimity if they use X or do Y. There will be a percentage of people who do things, they wouldn't have done without that info, and some of said percentage will be blackmailable (think miners having "inciminating pictures" on their machines because they were stored on the blockchain once).
Worse than a privacy infringing government are blackmailable citizens (One could argue the former causes the latter, I argue the latter steers the former into worse).
It's not my fault that under the guise of being the force of good, of being the moral highground itself, of being pampered by decades of softball questions from nearly the whole of German Journalism, curruption can flourish.
It can do so even better if adherends of Berlin progressivism are being nurtured in the belief that, and opponents of Berlin progressivism are being threatened with that, every criticism of the left is guilty by association: Tin-Foil-Hat > Right-Wing > Nazi.
Just look at the FB profile of one their CEOs… full of "Nazis everwhere". It's the modern day.
Both CEOs of the company "Culture4Life GmbH" are politically well connected in Berlin. One is a clubowner, frequently in talks with government for tax-exemptions (eg. you pay less tax if you've employ a DJ...). The other one is a member of the Green party.
And we all know: Anyone who critcizes the left-wing sphere of Berlin is nothing but a racist. So there comes the rug.
EDIT: Also, the former CEO of said company is a lawyer with a reputation [1] whose main business partner is the ex-ceo of "Service und Dienstleistungen der ver.di GmbH", a temp-staffing agency run by Germany's biggest Union. Man... nothing to see here!

On the other hand: The growth trajectory for AMZ (ie. being the sole "shop" in, say, 20 yrs) will make the accumulated expenses for GM-UAW-style shenanigans look like peanuts.
Beyond that completely devolved into a curruption feast.
Look no further than what entities made it into the current "UN human rights council": Usbekistan, Cuba, Russia and China.
And its not a coincidence: Prior to them Sudan, Lybia, Mauretania, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela got to be the Champions of Human Rights. A complete joke.
Meanwhile the same UN issued more condemnations of the democratic state of Israel than of all other nations combined (2006-2015: 61 against Israel, 54 all others, none against China).
