Those semis are going to be a lot quieter in coming decades when they go electric.
idlehand··on On the angst of American journalists (2019)
I think most people aren't actively seeking out knowledge about the most terrible parts of our modern society. That's why we don't take the time to look these things up, I get enough negativity from the news.

That's the kind of opinion you get in a break room at work when someone asks why you're not chugging your usual fifth cup by noon. For people to look up an online community specifically about something, they'd have to be a bit more interested in it than the average person.

That's something I miss about the forums of old: the off topic sections were generally just regular users commenting on whatever thread was at the top. It was a bit like a break room and could even form into communities.

Where I live we have sun 18-22 hours a day in summer and maybe 4 hours in the winter - the sun doesn't even go halfway up before going down again on those days.

Unfortunately me and my partner both have our families here so moving is not an option. Being able to see decently strong light in December without having to travel would be worth a lot to me.

I guess I should thank my mom and her well-done steaks for my decent jaw and relative lack of dental issues.

Sunlight exposure has been shown to be protective of eyesight, and we spend more time indoors focusing on screens.

The timespan is too short for evolution to have had a considerable impact.

idlehand··on Addressing AI’s energy cost
The IT industry also uses primarily electric energy which is easier to make green than for example long-range trucking, farming, or long-distance flights.
