idibidiartists··on Antarctica Is Melting, and Giant Ice Cracks Are Just the Start
This is a joke, right? Warm water occupies more volume than cold water. Also, ice that is on LAND and running off into the OCEAN will raise sea level. Also water from melting ice caps that evaporates goes back into the ocean and refreezing on polar caps is slowing down, so more water in the ocean. It does not have to melt straight into the ocean. Sea level is rising due to ice melting. It is a fact.
idibidiartists··on Stardust: GPU-Based Visualization Library
D3 can use GPU shaders and is far more flexible. This is ok for canned vis, not for custom data vis. Like Vega vs D3. D3 wins every time.
idibidiartists··on Instacart Tries to Hang on to Whole Foods as Amazon Swoops In
I can't go inside Whole foods after this. Same reason I won't answer an Amazon recruiter's email. It's disturbing to think of the race to the bottom (in terms of worker compensation and benefits) that Amazon brings to industries it's taken over.
idibidiartists··on Facebook’s Safety Check is a stress-inducing flip of social norms
So you're telling me that if I state a fact but don't back it up then I get down-voted? On so many occasions I've stated facts without explanation that got up-voted. So what I'm trying to say is: the idiocy of crowds.
idibidiartists··on Facebook’s Safety Check is a stress-inducing flip of social norms
A lot of them are business accounts, bots and fake or throwaway. I have 3. How can anyone be sure that each account is a person. It says a lot about general IQ on HN that I got 4 downvotes for suggesting that Facebook has less users (real ones) than China has people (real ones, too!)
idibidiartists··on Facebook’s Safety Check is a stress-inducing flip of social norms
China has more people than Facebook has users.
idibidiartists··on $80k/month App Store Scam
I understand that, but suggesting it as a tool for prototyping and easily sharing apps with others (which was the concern I was responding to) does not warrant multiple down votes, unless the readers here are absolute assholes?
idibidiartists··on $80k/month App Store Scam
I thought the issue was him trying to get it on his cofounder's phone?
idibidiartists··on $80k/month App Store Scam
Use Expo.io ... if you're building in React Native, Expo is the easiest way to distribute apps (even on the Web with Snack)
idibidiartists··on Comdb2 – Bloomberg's distributed RDBMS under Apache 2
So essentially the HN commenting UX is one of walking on egg shells.
idibidiartists··on Comdb2 – Bloomberg's distributed RDBMS under Apache 2
Down voted for asking a question? The system is definitely broke in such instances.

You mean FaunaDB?

idibidiartists··on Apple is struggling to become an AI powerhouse
$221B in cash on hand. They can get any AI researcher super start they want. No?
idibidiartists··on FlexBox Cheatsheet
I meant it that I have learned to avoid using the relative size factor sizing (with flex-grow, flex-basis and flex-shrink) which is the default sizing model of Flexbox and have been using percentage baed sizing instead.
idibidiartists··on Why MLB hitters are suddenly obsessed with launch angles
Taking the fun out of sport, for profit. :)
idibidiartists··on FlexBox Cheatsheet
My experience with Flexbox is that it's a struggle to use it on its own for responsive behavior but is much easier when combined with percentage-based width, height and margins.

idibidiartists··on Google could face a $9B EU fine for rigging search results in its favour
Do they have proof of that?
idibidiartists··on WA, NY and CA Governors Announce Formation of United States Climate Alliance
Fukushima, Chernobyl, 3 Mile Islant, and in my own state of WA. How many victims of ratiation caused health issues?
idibidiartists··on WA, NY and CA Governors Announce Formation of United States Climate Alliance
Replace Nuclear with Renewables. Not with coal.
idibidiartists··on A new report on a basic income scheme launched in Iran
I believe UBI would lead to changing the fundamental nature of money as it goes from scarcity based to rate-of-flow based in its value basis. It will work as long as people who receive UBI spend that money, as opposed to horde it. That mens UBI should be given to people who have no other sources of income, not to those who will likely just accumulate it with no intent to spend it.
idibidiartists··on Facebook is an attack on the open web
I switched to Observer Only mode on Facebook after Trump got elected because I did not want to be stopped and e-frisked at airports. It turned out that that was the best way to use Facebook: stay on top of happenings with your friends and relatives but let them reach out to you on other communication channels if they miss you or wish to communicate some news. All the sudden, I'm having more meaningful, coherent dialog over email and text as opposed to stupid Facebook comments and likes.

In federal and state government jobs, you can sue and stay.

idibidiartists··on Realtime Bitcoin
Haven't tou heard of civilization types? I think type 3 (or 5?) is one where they have harness the energy of their sun(s) in an optimal wag. They gather solar energy in space and beam it to their planet, moon(s$ and their space colonies.
idibidiartists··on Realtime Bitcoin
Renewable energy is not an asset. It's energy. It's the basis of all life. It is infinitely abundant (until our Sun dies and the winds stop blowing) Unlike currency, energy has an intrinsic value as a unit of work (the 'joule' being that unit) Energy as a currency would get its value not from artificial scarcity but from its rate of flow in a surplus energy p2p exchange network. Satoshi himself mentioned this line of thinking back in 2009 [1] when I wrote about a hypothetical p2p energy economy, but he thought the Blockchain could power such an energy-as-currency-based economy, and he's actually right. You need to think of the Blockchain as the low level API and write high level currency schemes on top of it. I haven't given it much thought since then.

idibidiartists··on Realtime Bitcoin
using something that is practically infinitely abundant (renewable energy) to create an artificially scarce medium of exchange is illogical to say the least... why not use renewable energy itself as the self-valued currency?
idibidiartists··on Pix2code: Generating Code from a GUI Screenshot
It's best to make it so easy for a designer to make responsive (and even adaptive) layouts (for both native mobile and web) that this AI-based contraption that is guaranteed to produce wrong outcomes some of the time becomes unnecessary, at least for any practical purpose (unless the goal is the automated copying of web pages which is a lot bigger problem than guessing the markup, given how much complex dynamic behavior is built into pages these days)

I've taken an attempt at simplifying the task of building responsive and adaptive React Native apps with the following little library.
