Then there's a 30 minutes interview with Sir Tim Berners-Lee, where among other things he touches on Solid (https://solid.mit.edu/).
The last hour is a shared panel with the rest of the featured speakers on the impact of the Web on Human Rights, surveillance, privacy, etc.
I'd recommend the whole podcast (Unnamed Reverse Engineering podcast) to anyone interested in hardware RE.

But it's useful if what you want to do is create a simple API to access your data. If your use case includes buildinga CRUD app, or API, you basically get that out of the box.
If you have several components/clients (in different languages) which need to access your database it allows you keep a common interface instead of having to work with different specific libraries/frameworks for each language.

Another example is the 'hug of death' small (unprepared) web sites suffer when exposed to legit traffic due to being mentioned in HN, Reddit, etc.
When I ran the tests for MariaDB 10.x and MySQL CE 5.6.x the advantage even went further for MySQL with around 20% better performance.
I find always funny how with every release you can get opposing claims from each camp regarding performance.
