ianzakalwe··on India’s ban on rice exports raises fear of global food price rises
I encourage you before fighting what’s implied get clear on what was meant by the original comment first.
ianzakalwe··on India’s ban on rice exports raises fear of global food price rises
There is no need for hostility in your response. Informative reply would be half the Kenya and would provide double the value
ianzakalwe··on TypeChat
I am not sure why this exist, maybe I am missing something, and it does not seem like there is much value past “hey check this out this is possible”
ianzakalwe··on Bill to allow corporate landowners to vote in elections in Seaford, Delaware
Specificity does not get upvotes
ianzakalwe··on OpenAI boss ‘heartened’ by talks with world leaders over will to contain AI risk
Sam Altman has a talent of utilizing any narrative in a way that benefits his company. It is sad to see legislators jumping onto AI space out of fear rather than to facilitate innovation
ianzakalwe··on Why I Left Rust
Organization that is “uncomfortable” with being criticized is always going to struggle to expand and adjust.

I have being part of rust community since 2013, I have seen lots of oddities over the years in this community. While it is inspiring to see such a dedicated and passionate community it is also upsetting to see same community kill off its own members based on disagreements and inability to carry any sort of constructive discourse.

ianzakalwe··on Malicious VSCode extensions with more than 45k installs
Actually malicious extension only had 250 downloads, 45k installs extension was sending telemetry only. It’s a very misleading title collapsing two separate incidents into one for the sake of dramatization.

This article also highlighted that automated tools used by VS team are pretty good at catching most of similar issues.

ianzakalwe··on Sunset at the South Pole
My new favourite blog to read online!
ianzakalwe··on Ask HN: How do you deal with entrepreneurial obsession?
For me : stop living in fantasy and start taking actions, getting other people excited about the idea and asking them to join me. It’s too comfortable to never let fantasy get in touch with reality. And once you do let it get out there I know what needs to be worked more on.
ianzakalwe··on Tesla puts a ‘dummy’ camera in its new vehicles
Changes that Tesla made to the newest vehicles are very clearly cost cutting measures. Looking at how economy is doing, it's not a bad adaptation strategy.
ianzakalwe··on Tell HN: My son is being bullied for owning an Android phone
Asking for a parenting advice on HN seems more like asking for more tools to win "Android vs iPhone" battle. Just let your kid have less painful upbringing. Let him learn about peer-pressure and other things on his own. Stop making yourself right at his expense.
ianzakalwe··on Developer marketing for early-stage startups – what we’ve learned
I love posthogs branding and mascot so much! Also great article.
ianzakalwe··on Dutch man needs CPR, but YouTube shows ads before tutorial
Other procedures for single purpose use case often end up being inefficient, ineffective and expensive to maintain. Relying on existing infrastructure makes sense.
ianzakalwe··on Running large language models like ChatGPT on a single GPU
Python is mostly just a glue code nowadays, all data loading, processing and computations are handled by low level languages (C/C++), python is there just to instruct those low level libraries how to compose into one final computation.
ianzakalwe··on ChatGPT Plus
Such a big announcement and no clear call to action on this page, not a very good marketing strategy.
ianzakalwe··on SQL should be the default choice for data transformation logic
SQL is a query language, not a transformation language.
ianzakalwe··on OpenAI starts testing ChatGPT premium
Atm they have somewhat unlimited credit on Azure, how long it will last is hard to say.
ianzakalwe··on Gripes with RSS after one week
I remember the moment when I added huggingface blog feed to my reader and realized that this feed has no content in it and links are specified with guid tag. Outside of tech blogs its very common nowadays to stumble upon malformed atom/rss feeds in the wild, some feel unmaintained or abandoned.
ianzakalwe··on What best YouTube/twitch people focusing on mid-low lvl programming you know?
I enjoyed watching https://www.youtube.com/@javidx9 for a while, he had good series on building game engine from scratch in c++.
ianzakalwe··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours? (2022 edition)
github copilot
