ianmurrays··on Shutting down our public encrypted DNS
Does anyone know of good alternatives that also block ads? Seems Quad9 doesn't.
ianmurrays··on Hyperspace
Here’s a lengthier explanation [1] but it’s basically an APFS feature.

ianmurrays··on My phone detects going on a run as “someone snatching my phone and running off”
Interesting. I've actually never enabled biometrics on it just as a precaution, and it's a different passcode than the phone, plus I use a random set of chars as the username like many others do.
ianmurrays··on As a Windows user, it's a surreal way to install a program
Same here. Especially because most installer packages rely on these specifically to install "obscure" things, so I'm immediately distrustful of them.
ianmurrays··on My phone detects going on a run as “someone snatching my phone and running off”
Does the app not require authentication? At least MitID in Denmark requires a 6-digit PIN at the very minimum, or biometrics optionally.
ianmurrays··on Show HN: Run an 80B Qwen in 4.3 GB of RAM on a Mac, and a 35B on an iPhone
I guess you have to know which experts to keep “hot” in ram, which you can’t know beforehand, so there wouldn’t be much gain.
ianmurrays··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
I have this exact problem with 4.8 and Fable. Sometimes I can barely understand what it’s saying. I’m no english first-language speaker, but I don’t consider myself bad at English either, and it’s gotten increasingly hard to understand Claude’s claims and explanations.
ianmurrays··on DeepClaude – Claude Code agent loop with DeepSeek V4 Pro
Correct.
ianmurrays··on Show HN: Ghost Pepper – Local hold-to-talk speech-to-text for macOS
I had Claude make this hammerspoon config + daemon that does pretty much the same, in case anyone is interested.

ianmurrays··on WARP is here
I don't see it either, perhaps a slow rollout?
ianmurrays··on Apple Maps vs. Google Maps vs. Waze
Waze has more up-to-date maps than Google Maps in Chile, at least in my experience.
ianmurrays··on Administrate – Rails framework for creating flexible admin dashboards
Reminds me of https://github.com/activeadmin/activeadmin which is still being maintained apparently, and is incredibly flexible and useful. Won't replace a custom admin interface, but is pretty close.

I made a simple invoicing application a while back using activeadmin and it turned out pretty great: https://github.com/ianmurrays/active_invoices
