Interestingly when I went to Beijing recently I was pleasantly surprised at the absence of noisy gardening machines. The streets were much cleaner there and the landscaping noticeably better. I think I want to move there now.
Coming back to the US I feel like this is a poor third-world country now.
For instance the reversal of roles between the sentinels in the opening scene appeals to me. Somehow it evokes memories of myriad times I was tasked with some nonsensical assignment that was hard to take seriously. I can imagine being the sentinel on duty, perhaps sitting down and reading a book rather than being on the lookout.

It was especially amusing when the the repository was initially deployed unpacked.

It took almost a year to complete but I am really glad he was able to make this happen.
In browsing his site it's safe to say he's certainly been keeping busy. Can't wait to check out his hist post titled "Why I joined the NRA".
I played around with it, and didn't see any advantage over using git commands.
Then I tried pushing a change. I was expecting some confirmation on what refspec to use... but no! Magit pushed my change directly to refs/heads instead of refs/for, completely bypassing gerrit code review.
I got burned. That was it; I'm never using Magit again.
I hadn't herd of their new app Signal. Has anyone tried it? I'm really interested in hearing anyone's experience using it.
BTW, I ended up installing Telegram ...and it may be mere co-incidence, but I started noticing some weird things happening that I've never seen before. I connect to the internet exclusively via tethering to my phone and while tethered I started seeing messages in Firefox from my desktop machine giving warnings that were something like "Could not establish secure connection because the server supports a higher version of TLS". My guess is that it was some sort of MITM attack... and I was possibly targeted due to the traffic to Telegram servers.
One other thing regarding Telegram: I really don't like that it reads my contact list and uploads it to their server to check if my contacts have a Telegram account. I've blocked the permission for now.
Anyway, google play apparently tried to auto-update and bricked itself; now it just says "no connection" when I launch the play store.
Last week I tried to install TestSecure but it would not run. It just gave an error message about needing to update play services.
I ended up installing the Telegram app in F-Droid.
It's the reason the university I went to e.g. had a women's swim team but not a men's team.
I saw 'time.com' and didn't even bother clicking. Somewhat related: I also skip over any links to paywalled sites(nytimes, wsj, etc...).
$ git branch fireos
$ git branch fireos/feature-branch
error: unable to create directory for .git/refs/heads/fireos/feature-branch
fatal: Failed to lock ref for update: No such file or directory
This happens because creating 'fireos' branch stores the sha1 in file .git/refs/heads/fireos. But if you later want to create branch 'fireos/feature-branch', git needs to store the sha1 in .git/refs/heads/fireos/feature-branch. This is impossible because 'fireos' is a file and cannot be a directory. Path conflict.>A lightweight tag is simply a named pointer to a commit. You can always change it to point to another commit.
Umm, you can do this, but in general you should never rename tags. Occasionally a developer will tell me the tag they pushed is incorrect and I'll agree to remove it only if they promise not to re-create it. If you read the man page on git-tag it's clear why you should avoid doing this.
>A lovely little tip – don’t forget that branch names aren’t limited to a-z and 0-9. It can be quite nice to use / and . in names for fake namespacing
If you use '/' is branch names you can create path conflicts. I've seen it happen and it took me a day to debug and figure out. There is some code checking for path conflicts in the git source but it's not invoked via all code paths that create branches. I recommend against using slashes in branch names unless you know what you are doing.
I really like the enhancement to C-x TAB to use the arrow keys to adjust the indentation on the selected region.
I would argue that my father had a negative influence. Mom wasn't really good or bad so I'd say she didn't make a difference.
I think Neil Tyson's observation that he experienced success in spite of his teachers, not because of them is worth pondering.

More annoying though is the fact that it causes frame skips and audio skipping when I'm using the BSNES emulator. The only remedy is to uninstall it.
I still think there's some weirdness going on with using F11 vs double-clicking to switch to full screen view for video playback.
Overall great job with this release.
BTW, I'm also loving the fact that I can use VLC on Android. I compiled it from source back when there were no binaries, currently am using the nightlies, and am looking forward to being able to get the stable releases in the app store eventually.

Pesticides scare me. Especially since I can't be bothered to wash my food before eating it. But as I understand it, if you use pesticides, then the plants don't produce their own natural chemicals that fight off pests and other symbiotic organisms. I don't remember where I read it but according to my research those chemicals are very beneficial part of the total nutriment.
Not to mention it's expensive. I spend about $1200 a month just at Whole Foods, mostly on organic and raw foods. And that's just for myself.
