i_love_retros··on US imposes sanctions on ICC hours after former judge wins Nobel Peace Prize
The countries with healthy democracies and who value science and the rule of law support the ICC. It's the better 3rd to be in.

All of that stuff meant something to someone though. They put real time and effort into those creations.

>I want my products and projects to be judged by what they do and how well they work

Hence the question "what's the most impressive and useful thing you have made"

But no one really has any examples. Just half baked slop they never got over the finish line.

So software that already solves those problems isn't good enough and your vibe coded versions will be better? And totally worth the negative cost of AI to society and the environment? You just gotta have your own versions right?

>you can't think of anything to unleash some agents on within the entire digital world at any given time?

It has to be worth it though right? Like I could spend some money and have agents build me my own Photoshop maybe (maybe?) But it would definitely be much worse to use than actual Photoshop. Then I have to have the continued interest to keep improving it which probably won't happen because the next shiny thing will grab my attention. So it all just seems like a bunch of kids that have been given a seemingly endless supply of free candy and they are going fucking nuts like chipmunks with ADHD on crack. Building all this shit that is absolutely meaningless. I realize I've gone on a rant but I'll keep going. I strongly suspect (with no evidence whatsoever) that the people who are churning slop apps out at breakneck speed have never been to an art museum. There. I said it. You've all got no taste. You wouldn't know a quality product if it hit you in the face. I'll leave with this thought- if apple didn't exist, would they ever exist now we have LLMs? I say no, because the age of good taste and refined design and original thoughts is gone forever now that we have Claude and chatgpt and agents.

What's the most impressive and useful thing you have built then?

Clickbait much?

It was released like a day ago wasn't it? Can you really draw such a strong conclusion already?

i_love_retros··on Show HN: NanoMuse – An open-source AI agent for your phone and computer
Actually I'm pretty good advocate for an accessible web. I think speech to text must be an awesome quality of life improvement for some people.

But I don't see why anyone would need an autonomous agent let loose on their device, u less they are actually braindead in which case its not going to help anyway.

People saying it helps with ADHD, but if you suffer from things related to over stimulation from your environment an autonomous agent is going to potentially make things much much worse when it fucks up your life by send a bad email or instant message

i_love_retros··on Show HN: NanoMuse – An open-source AI agent for your phone and computer
Wait until you start getting even more emails and phone calls about suspicious activity on your accounts, or weird emails "you" have sent, or from friends asking why you didn't turn up, or that your flight was successfully rescheduled. Then your ADHD is really going to flare up!
i_love_retros··on Show HN: NanoMuse – An open-source AI agent for your phone and computer
I honestly can't imagine ever having, needing or wanting an AI assistant on any of my devices.

Have people really been struggling so badly all these years with managing their emails and gym memberships?

Dude you need to talk to real people and not just get all your information from right wing internet sites. You sound ridiculous. You think signal and PGP don't exist in Europe? You actually believe Europe is a surveillance state? Fucking hell dude, quit you job and go travel. Meet some real people from outside of America.

Yet Europeans are healthier, happier, and have a better quality of life than Americans. They also have so much better transport infrastructure it's embarrassing for Americans. Like all the money America generates, where does it go?

Maybe you're just bitter?

Good! Anything that isn't a not very important crud web app should not allow AI generated code anywhere near it!
i_love_retros··on LeCun has "zero concerns" about AI wiping out humanity, recent "rogue" incidents
Open ai and anthropic are just trying to scare the common person who doesn't understand an agent is a python script with a loop. How would that ever destroy humanity lol, just unplug the computer if it starts misbehaving.
i_love_retros··on Extra Big Ass Intelligence
At first glance I thought it was cool and someone had made it by hand.

Then certain things like hard to view content and scrolling that doesn't work made me realize it's just more vibe coded junk.

Like what really is the point? It sounds like the owner had almost zero creative input.

Lol what? Most of the hackernews gang consider themselves nerds and they lap this shit up! Every new overpriced and unnecessary product that gets released by google, meta, openai, anthropic, whoever, they lap it up!

Meta's weird keychain ai thing and now this, both going for that cute vibe so we forget how scummy these companies and their owners are.
i_love_retros··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
> You wont get good results by asking it to "go do X" and walking away from the desk

but you will!! you absolutely will!

i_love_retros··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
My wording was bad. I've been using latest models recently and I can pretty much say build xyz feature or fix xyz bug and it will do it really well. It will ask me any clarifying questions. It will highlight things I haven't thought about. It will make suggestions on how to test and verify. And all of these things it will highlight the recommended choice I should choose.

So I stand by my assertion that anyone can do this now, it's definitely not a hard to learn/master skill, and people who say it is are naively believing there is a moat around their career.

So people who choose to not use it are not losing out on building any skills- in fact if they are focusing on hand coding and learning and keeping their brain sharp they, in my opinion, will be in a much stronger place than the AI enthusiasts whose brains are rotting.

i_love_retros··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
> The second thing is that using LLMs in a useful way is a skill in itself.

I have to disagree here. People who are really into agentic coding like to say/believe this, but come on, it's not rocket science! You literally ask the agent to do something and it does it, that's it. As long as you use a recent model it will do it really well regardless of how fancy your prompt is. There's no moat here, anyone can do it. Your job will be gone and so will mine.

i_love_retros··on I am done with this shit
I'm mediocre but it's not that I fear for my job being taken by someone better at AI than me (honestly I hate my job so much now I wouldn't care being forced into working in a grocery store). It's that the job has become absurd and anxiety inducing as I am not given the time to understand and build a mental picture of the code that AI is generating, and as the original post says "everyone is spending all day hitting enter" which is fucking true.
i_love_retros··on I am done with this shit
I think the people who are into it are the people who before AI would throw up a pull request that was complete shit, expect everyone else to tell them what to fix, and somehow still keep their job.
