hyperhello··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Well, why did you?
hyperhello··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
I had to talk back, but if insults and down votes solved anything there would be no insults or down votes.
hyperhello··on San Francisco Onion Futures Company
That’s exactly what I meant. I was only replying to the question as posed.
hyperhello··on San Francisco Onion Futures Company
“Absorbs” volatility might be more accurate.
hyperhello··on San Francisco Onion Futures Company
> The San Francisco Onion Futures Company is not a board of trade, defined as an "organized exchange or other trading facility".

I hate to argue but then what would they define this as, if not an organized exchange or other trading facility?

hyperhello··on So, I didn't Use My Phone for 5 Days
Once you have the concept down of not doing anything to further itself but merely existing in the time and place, which is called reflection, you can expand (not travel) to contemplation, a different experience.
hyperhello··on Autism is genetic – and why this information matters now
Are we still talking about testing for autism?
hyperhello··on Measuring Gauss-Seidel loop-carried dependency and fixing it via loop unrolling
Artificial intelligence is a lot like alternative medicine, if it was the thing it said it was it wouldn’t need a name.
hyperhello··on Oil Executives Say the Great Fuel Crisis Is Here
How much land, time, and money, per citizen, would it take to put down enough solar cells to generate each person's basic electrical supply? Is it less than $5K?
hyperhello··on Show HN: Sunk Cost – How long until a local LLM rig pays for itself?
I doubt it will ever be cost effective for the foreseeable future. The AI companies have astonishing amounts of compute and they’re effectively dumping it on the market.
hyperhello··on Anecdotally, Programmers Dislike "Reduce"
For can have another set of variables in the header too. You can simulate it more readably even if you need to call the lambda.
hyperhello··on After Math
> But AI breaks that correlation, for the same reason it separates the two notions of proof. So, even genuine solutions would not satisfy us. This is not moving the goalposts but recognizing that any specific goalpost is inadequate. If mathematics is a game, it is an infinite one. This attitude is not reactionary. We reject both

It was pure Not X It’s Y for so long i naturally assumed it was AI written.

hyperhello··on The Deathray: A simple way for an untrusted site to freeze a Mac
Why does everyone hate this comment? Attitude? I can’t figure out the wavelength here. I’m just commenting.

We don't need novelty accounts here.
hyperhello··on Insignificant Figures
Where do the extra numbers come from? Are they stored as decimal polar coordinates that get converted to themselves times pi?
hyperhello··on Show HN: Compute polynomials twice as fast
Also could use analysis of dependencies to see what can happen in parallel. Or for that matter, some real benchmarks.
hyperhello··on iPhone Duo
I sympathize but you're literally looking at something an hour old and demanding that the economic and political realities that produced it change entirely.
hyperhello··on A Biography of Lee Holloway, the Architect of Cloudflare's Technology (Part 1)
What is with the bold sections? Is this just AI or are you trying to make sure I didn’t fall asleep reading the bland plaintext?
hyperhello··on 27.5KB language-agnostic WebGPU syntax highlighter
Does this do the tokenization? Could it be expanded to parse the whole structure of the language?
hyperhello··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
Good god, sorry I participated in any way. Apparently there’s a quantum physics colloquium I’m disturbing.
hyperhello··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
Well, yeah. Perhaps if this experiment was expanded for a chain or a filter of cause and effect then it could be shown that one event affects another.
hyperhello··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
Unfounded speculation, but is it possible that every particle could have a different individual light speed, and the one we know is just the average speed that they have to drop or speed up to, the way a car needs to travel at the same speed as the highway?
hyperhello··on Finding a bug in Dummit and Foote's Abstract Algebra
I don’t think it’s fair to call {}-> injective just because no two inputs map to the same output. That’s vacuous.
hyperhello··on Political meddling at the Census Bureau damages the US statistical system
Maybe they were but the compromise they accepted was Indians not taxed, so unless there’s some pretty surprising evidence…
hyperhello··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
Isn’t there some theorem that any sufficiently complex mathematical languages will have statements that can’t be proven? :)
hyperhello··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
Well, there’s actually a very small set of operations that allow all computation, so it doesn’t take much to be a DSL and a GP too; I’d be surprised if a proof language couldn’t swing it.
hyperhello··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
The point of writing Lean code is that Lean checks it accordingly. Lean is a domain specific language to encode mathematical reasoning in a way that can’t be fooled.

Note to other users: don’t downvote this kind of comment, answer it.

hyperhello··on In defense of two-state theme toggles
Having a light mode and a dark mode as the target of the setting, makes it impossible to use a light area versus a dark area to meaningfully suggest visually which one is selected. This stymies the designer completely, apparently.
