hypercube33··on Launch HN: Magnitude (YC S25) – Self-optimizing inference engine for agents
From your description looks like this isn't for AMD or Strix Halo at all? Also one of the things I'm not sure of but definitely plays a huge factor is the variant of the model you download - how does this help select the fastest version for your specific hardware / context size?
hypercube33··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
Call of duty is kicking close to 500GB to 1TB depending what you have installed.

That said, I think the hardware is totally capable they just don't have a layer to run win32 or Linux apps natively (like proton for m series) so they'd have to commit to what valve is doing for linux, for macos

hypercube33··on Windows 11½
Popups right in my way is peak on point here.
hypercube33··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
I did the same but with 16 and maybe somewhere around 30 coins in two wallets I thought I backed up. I was angry but at the time I maybe lost $3-6 (probably way less) so I moved on with my life.
hypercube33··on The "Windows XP Box" (2003)
I miss the scene and custom cases. MN PCTech still exists and I love reading their builds. It was more of an art to craft custom cases but the payoff was showing up to a lan party with a custom case no one else has.
hypercube33··on Show HN: Npunlock – Run custom C kernels for Intel NPUs
Windows comes with the ability to do wsl so you somewhat have Linux as well even though it's limited in some ways. May be worth a shot cross compiling it.
hypercube33··on Can gzip be a language model?
Last I checked windows handles compressed files in 4 byte or 4kb or something chunks and is incredibly slow to compress or decompress a lot of files.
hypercube33··on Used ThinkPad Buyer's Guide (2019)
I have a pile of dell e series with the og i7 in them. Still can run windows 11 but yeah Linux is beautiful on these things.
hypercube33··on Used ThinkPad Buyer's Guide (2019)
Lenovo think pads don't have strix halo... you'll have to go to hp for that and pay $1000 over list price for it. Asus rog z13 is probably the only hope for that.
hypercube33··on Used ThinkPad Buyer's Guide (2019)
I think Lenovo has a parts depot website. I was able to get parts (LTE modem kit) for an 8 year old model there.
hypercube33··on MCP was always a bad idea?
For me, I have a service that has multiple vectors of what would be called an API - PowerShell Modules, WMI, RESTFUL Web Services, some are available, some can do some things, some are more direct, some are not allowed with enterprise security etc.

Either way, I don't do what you suggest. I have self-learning rules and have the models build a well-rounded API engine once, then re-use it with query scripts through skills. Its portable and flexible in many environments.

hypercube33··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
They are useful for taking local llm models and delivering them with HTTPS to harnesses that expect it or to another machine. Other than that I'm not sure what I'd personally use them for.
hypercube33··on Building a Linux GPU Driver for the M4 Mac Mini in One Month
Claude models were blocked from logging into my own VM with my own credentials I gave it using ssh that I also gave it by its guard rails. I wouldn't doubt other models are nerfed but...you should provide some context around your comment
hypercube33··on Ex-FTC boss Khan: break out the handcuffs for AI CEOs, citing 1934 precedent
That's a highly weird law. Someone let the cat outside or feeds/keeps it there thus should accept the way cats are as their responsibility.
hypercube33··on JetKVM Mini
No Ethernet, so no POE. I'm not seeing a price, or even a kickstart reward, so this doesnt exist?
hypercube33··on JetKVM Mini
In this context its not a switch - its a Keyboard / Video / Mouse - but over IP - remote control of a PC (including boot and bios)
hypercube33··on JetKVM Mini
Yeah its a really poor decision - the things chonky, put two USB-C on there.
hypercube33··on JetKVM Mini
AMD Pro CPUs generally come with their own version of this - Realtek BCM
hypercube33··on US Customs supervisor busted for stealing hardware from Homeland Security PCs
45 security apps cut the ram and CPU performance in half out of the gate, then you have Win11 with its web gui and users who complain about any slowness so i7 or r7 is about the norm most places / bulk big 3 oems make for business.
hypercube33··on US Customs supervisor busted for stealing hardware from Homeland Security PCs
I've worked at a bunch of orgs and no one is bothering to look at ram size changes they just note what it's at when they get a call.
hypercube33··on Astra and Fable still hack on simple variants of alignment evals from 2025
Run a local model that is uncensored and it won't say no to pretty much anything
hypercube33··on Nvidia dismisses "circular financing", says every $1 it invests brings back $100
This month I reduced my spend on cloud AI and started using local models as primary - it's maybe 2 or 4 times slower for some things but it still is getting the job done just fine. I talked to a friend of mine who's been doing the same running smaller Qwen models locally for coding.
hypercube33··on Why are AI agents lying, cheating and coordinating?
I'm going to guess that the agents are built this way on purpose. I just finished watching BlackBerry and Flash of Genius and yeah this is American business ethics just operating as normal.
hypercube33··on Desert Ant Labs: local, fast models that run on device
I'm curious what models you're running and what hardware if you'd be open to sharing that info.
hypercube33··on Ask HN: How do you manage skills files?
I'm on mobile but the first skill I made was a skill improvement skill. This is basically stating that if the AI struggles in another skill but finds a way that the skill it used needs reworking and it needs to do so.

There is a rule to always use this skill and then track notes in a version file. Then back it up in a share folder or external drive.

Skills have made my tools immensely better, cheaper to use and faster. I've also added to it that it should write scripts it can just use in the future to do tasks like query information it needs to answer questions.

I wish there was a better way to share these over a team but I haven't taken that time yet.

hypercube33··on Ask HN: Resources to get good at soldering?
Ts80p iron is super crazy nice for the price. Heats up really fast and there are a lot of tips out there. I'd say it beats my two soldering stations if you're only doing soldering.
hypercube33··on GrapheneOS project: pixel 11 no longer supports hardware memory tagging (MTE)
I had the Galaxy Nexus (Samsung) and the Nexus 6. I may have had the Nexus 4 or 5, I dont remember. I had a few HTC phones before that and the DROID by Moto before that as my original smart phone. The DROID was peak - I miss the slide out keyboard.
hypercube33··on GrapheneOS project: pixel 11 no longer supports hardware memory tagging (MTE)
I have my parents and in laws running Moto phones. They hold up well, are well built, just no big flagship phone that I'm drawn to. I like their flat screens, SD cards, headphone jacks, all that good stuff. I think their cameras are getting better now too so that'll probably tip me over with the icky new Pixel 11's
hypercube33··on IBM Bob
It kind of is - when I looked at it 6 months ago it was just a fork of vscode with old ass versions of Claude and the only unique things were java and ibm I mcp clients or servers or something built in. For those works I'd rather just have the skill or mcp for my harness of choice. I think they weren't allowed to use external AI so they run the models in house and remade cursor. Not bad to have competition but the name is awful - as others have said it's been used before by Microsoft in the 90s to make a friendly desktop giving us the winxp search dog and clippy.
hypercube33··on Launch HN: Nori Robotics (YC S26) – A low-cost humanoid robot for development
Website absolutely kills my S21U/Edge phone to view. Shame, this looks super cool. I'll check it out on my laptop later when I have a moment. Price seems enticing too.
