hwbunny··on VLC vs. the App Stores
VLC is a fine player, but it's very slow with new features. How come a project this big has to rely on donations?

The extension API is terrible. One of my pet peeves are the subtitles. You cannot take screenshots without subtitles when it's on, because it's rendered on the same overlay as the video.

Please put the subtitles on an overlay... If the audio volume can be on an overlay, so can the subtitles be. VLC needs to ramp up development and UI efforts, because PotPlayer is a much better, feature laden player, although it's Windows only :(.

hwbunny··on Bitcoin Block 840000
But it's unusable in a warlike scenario. During war there is no internet...

It's like Elon saying: we have open sourced our patents, use them. Well, use the old patents and stay behind forever....
hwbunny··on Meta Llama 3
Now he starts to look like a proper redneck with that necklace.
hwbunny··on First law protecting consumers' brainwaves signed by Colorado governor
A few decades too late :D.
hwbunny··on Hardest problem in computer science: centering things
Well, if you have full control on the frontend, then it's your responsibility to make these right.
hwbunny··on Hardest problem in computer science: centering things
I can attest to that. Painting doors and then watching the result is akin to watching a good painting/desktop background for too long... as time passes you start to notice the irregularities. Like the girl's hand is overly big, or her legs are exaggerated.
hwbunny··on Boston Dynamics' new electric Atlas robot is swiveling nightmare fuel
I found the dog prototypes disturbing and frightening because they moved in ways that no human has ever experienced in real life. They were similar to what the early Stable Diffusion models produced, the mangled limbs and fingers. Well, scary has its uses, like on the battlefield.

This robot looks good. It moves like a robot, it doesn't try to be human, and that's good.

hwbunny··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
Isn't tinnitus about certain tissues/bone pressed against each other?
hwbunny··on Why No IPv6?
Yeah and instead of shaming peepz, provide useful guides. At the same time if a thing is overly complex, then it's a smell, that's best avoided.
hwbunny··on I ported thousands of apps to Windows 95 [video]
That little extra thing, that soothing/warm Windows 95 chime is what's missing from today's things.
hwbunny··on An FDA approved device offers a new treatment for tinnitus
Maybe try to drink less stimulants... like coffee-tea. When I overdrink these the tinnitus comes.
hwbunny··on Show HN: Purl – A Simple Tool for Text Processing
Question: can it preserve original colors and also highlight the given word? Like when you do an "apt search whatever | grep another", and it is formatted in a nice way, but grep just eats the colors...
hwbunny··on Show HN: Purl – A Simple Tool for Text Processing
Yeah, awk, sed and the other gang of terribles in syntax must evaporate asap.
hwbunny··on Ten Years and Counting: My Affair with Microservices

hwbunny··on Freenginx 1.26.0
The big question is whether If is still evil... :D
hwbunny··on High Definition CSS Color Guide
Non intuitive syntax is a nogo.
hwbunny··on High Definition CSS Color Guide
99% of the new css features are not known or just unknown, because it's a hassle to use them. Syntax is just plain braindead. Just look at animations, grid and flexbox. These are supposed to fix lots of CSS2 era problems, and they do so in a mindboggingly shitty way. I mean anyone, who was responsible should be shot. And since it's a standard, it won't change for years to come.

So the idiots who established these new, contrived CSS syntaxes literally making people go on all fours, because... well, because they have the power to release such a mountain of shit.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer bullied every web developer for decades. Now Safari earned the honour of becoming the bully amongst web browsers, with their we just couldn't care less attitude. They do things here and there just a tad bit different, because, well, they are Apple, and everyone can fuck off. Like their fullscreen media query implementation, or the blur rendering outside viewport shenanigans just to name a few of their idiotic choices.

And Chrome... we need to wrestle away the browser from Google. The sooner, the better.

hwbunny··on High Definition CSS Color Guide
I don't know whether humans or aliens work at the CSS standards bodies, but as time progresses from the advent of the internet the end result gets more and more unusable.
