hvna··on The Art of the Romanian Haystack
Țuică!
hvna··on The Art of the Romanian Haystack
I would like to say, having lived in villages very similar to these in Transilvania, Romanian farm houses absolutely have internet, smart phones and internet.
hvna··on An Italian village where the houses have eyes
I'm only a few km away and didn't know about this, will have to go see!
hvna··on Cognicull: Knowledge base for mathematics, natural science and engineering
The idea is interesting and the website is designed very nicely, but the subjects themselves are extremely lacking. For example the "level 22" Simple Harmonic wave is simply three graphs of a sine function with no other explanation. What is there to learn from that?
hvna··on Vegan cheese has quietly but steadily infiltrated mainstream supermarket shelves
This is something I've noticed as well. Sometimes ingredient lists are a mile long. Less so here in Europe than what I've seen in America, but nevertheless it is shockingly less natural. I have always though that it makes more sense to just create vegan foods from what you have rather than recreating the things you are choosing not to eat.

Warning though, I am not a part of the vegan club, so it is all just opinion.

hvna··on Scientists make further step towards understanding dark energy
Correct, the data is regarding an age/area of the universe that has not been probed prior. Also, light years are a measure of distance, not time.
hvna··on The Art of Mathematics in Chalk
Real mathematicians write in ancient sumerian cuneiform.
hvna··on Write Your First Quantum Program (Common Lisp)
What boom would you suggest for a physics based approach to QC? Other than a solid understanding of quantum theory of course
hvna··on Robot-woven sneaker with 3D-printed soles
I've had this done with some custom birkenstocks before. They heat molded the cork insoles to fit my feet. They were very comfortable and well worth the money and time saved from not having to break them in.
hvna··on Robot-woven sneaker with 3D-printed soles
They should ship them with a restaurant-style high pressure dish sprayer so you can just hose them out when you're done.
hvna··on Show HN: CalcuLaTeX, a pretty-printing calculator language
I use MiktTeX integrated with Spyder to work on homework and export the equations to LaTeX format. Works well, although some preliminary searching has led me to see that other people have had many issues with it. I guess I just got lucky.
hvna··on Ketamine may ease depression by restoring brains sensitivity to prediction error
It is interesting to me to see so many studies concerning the effects of recreational drugs on people with depression. Is there possibly a correlation between existing drug users and depression?
hvna··on Sharpest knife made by cooking sand in a microwave oven
I think "sharpest" may be a bit of an exaggeration in the title. While the technique is cool and I recommend watching more of this guy's videos, it's by no means the sharpest knife. I have a small business hand sharpening knifes using a similar technique (Japanese ceramic whetstones and hones) and I can easily make one much sharper within a few minutes. It's a great hobby and a good way to make some side cash if you learn your stuff.
hvna··on Einstein's description of gravity just got much harder to beat
The question of if there is an ultimate theory of the universe is one of the major unsolved problems in physics.
hvna··on Why so many billionaires are fleeing to Teton County, Wyoming
I worked for five years in one of the 'super billionaire' hang out spots. While I can't give details, I can answer some questions. It's a strange experience to see people regularly drop 30,000 on a bottle of wine and leave half the bottle at the table when they're done.
hvna··on Why Washed-Up Dudes Like Me Can’t Let the Skateboard Go
I would definitely recommend it. It's hard, it hurts, and it's probably hot outside but it's a good way to spend a day. Might take some time to build up the skills to go to the park but your driveway is good enough until then. Also youtube is an amazing resource for skating skills.
hvna··on I’ve Consed Every Pair
Starting strength is great for smaller men and women but can be hard on bigger people. Especially with Rippletoe's eating philosophy. I gained 15kg when I started SS so be careful. It was worth it and my numbers went up a ton, but it's always good to measure your options. If you're very large it is worthwhile to hire a trainer. They will teach you how to get started easily without jumping off the deep end.
