hvac··on Researchers propose that humidity from masks may lessen severity of Covid-19
How would those same places be doing without masks?
hvac··on Data Scientist Rebekah Jones, Facing Arrest, Turns Herself in to Authorities
If the state’s data is garbage in the first place then the chance of a good-faith debate happening drops even further. I’m more than a little disturbed by the narrative that it’s OK for the state to lie as long as they are advancing a cause that you agree with. The underlying issue (covid) should not matter.

> Florida has a lower death rate

To be fair, Florida also has some of the lowest latitudes in the US.

To be clear, this is the same country that banned events of more than eight people.
hvac··on Coronavirus Could Push More Than 1B People to Extreme Poverty
Can you elaborate?

How would another presumably milder coronavirus that was widespread enough in Asia to cause observable population-level effects not also be widespread in the rest of the world?
hvac··on Effectiveness of Mask Recommendation to Prevent SARS-CoV-2 (Randomized trial)
You mention mask compliance, but your links discuss mandates - did the mandates have a material effect in changing the number of people actually wearing them?
hvac··on Effectiveness of Mask Recommendation to Prevent SARS-CoV-2 (Randomized trial)
The direction does matter, actually. The virus particles leaving an infected person will generally be inside droplets large enough to be caught by a mask before they get a chance to evaporate and atomize. Meanwhile, the virus encountered by an uninfected person nearby will naturally be either in smaller droplets or in airborne form. Much harder to defend against.
hvac··on Moderna Covid vaccine candidate almost 95% effective, trials show
Hmm, "counting the number of requests made to Apple Maps for directions" is different than people actually going places, though. If you look at the Google location data reports, the retail and recreation category was down 16% when the Apple graph was at its peak: https://www.gstatic.com/covid19/mobility/2020-08-14_US_Mobil...
hvac··on Covid-19: Do many people have pre-existing immunity?
Huh, you're right. Apparently there is limited hospital bed capacity on the Hawaiian islands.
hvac··on Covid-19: Do many people have pre-existing immunity?
The US? I'm not aware of any place here that's under lockdown.

That 0.67% was the CFR, not the IFR.
hvac··on California imposing sweeping rollback of reopening plans amid case surges
I can't edit my comment now, but I also just noticed that the CDC recently revised the IFR upwards from 0.26% to 0.65% (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/planning-scena...), apparently as of a few days ago. Our death rate estimates were too low, if anything.

The linked NYT article says that deaths are up 28% over the last two weeks.
hvac··on Scientists warn of potential wave of Covid-linked brain damage
>More than 25% of New Yorkers have had COVID This doesn't follow, though. You can test positive for SARS2 antibodies and - either through asymptomatic infection or false positive - not have had COVID-19. The UCL study focused on the disease, not the virus.

"The virus causing Covid-19, SARS-CoV-2, was not detected in the cerebrospinal brain fluid of any of the patients tested, suggesting the virus did not directly attack the brain to cause the neurological illness."
