husarcik··on Next, Nest, Nuxt Nust?
Have you tried adonisjs (https://adonisjs.com)? It is the "node version" of Laravel. I find it very easy to use, especially as coding is not my main career.

husarcik··on How Doctors die. It’s not like the rest of us (2016)
As a physician, I think it comes down to circumstance and goals of care. If I was in my forties and had several young children, I'd want everything done to be able to see them again. Even if I knew it was "futile".

This is why palliative care is so important. All of our goals in life are vastly different all the time, even cycling every week.

I loved this story. Reminds me of all my failed biochemistry experiments. Perhaps, mine were also contaminated by ants.

Considering we routinely give children fentanyl this is concerning.

Please provide statistics for your claims. Most notably, largely caused by "black market nature of getting the drug". Thanks!

I think it is more complex than this. Overdose is a real negative outcome.
husarcik··on Ask HN: Is there a static site generator that supports [[wikilinks]]?
Would this use the [[]] linking or the standard markdown syntax? See example below. Edit: Also, what benefit does linking give?

husarcik··on Roll Your Own Frameworks
Awesome! Is there a design architecture that you find useful for organizing your code? I noticed you split the code a bit into business vs other. I recently stumbled upon Clean Architecture that helps me make sense of things. Programming isn't my primary field so the more structure in a project, the better (within reason).

husarcik··on Medical staffing companies cut doctors’ pay while spending millions on ads
Yeah, I've definitely seen that on HN and it can be very frustrating that's for sure. Unless you've been in the system, it is very hard to understand why some things are the way they are.

Side note: I hope your second year is going well. I know they've had a lot of changes for USMLE because of coronavirus. Stay safe, and feel free to reach out if you ever have questions about med school or just want to chat. :)

As someone who is getting their MD next year, I'd have to agree with jac241. It took me a weekend to understand and setup a kubernetes cluster yet it's taken me three years to even know the bare basics of medicine. Maybe it's a situation of you don't know what you don't know. Sure, you can Google symptoms but have you seen thousands of patients to know if you're right? On the tech side, I know how to setup a kubernetes cluster but do I know what to do when things go wrong? Most likely not.

Thanks for sharing your experience! As a medical student, it is pretty difficult to get a decent feel for each specialty (as you know). I'm glad you were able to switch into something that fit you better. Have you ever considered anesthesia critical care? It seemed interesting from the little time I experienced it.

This is very inspirational. I'm applying to emergency medicine residency this year and love to see stories about how much people enjoy it. I'm curious what skills cross over from CEO to EM physician. Leadership and teamwork for sure.
husarcik··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
I'm a medical student so I'm currently in a COVID-19 course. Outside that I've decided to work on understanding C/C++ better.
husarcik··on Don't write documentation in Markdown
This reminds me of a comment on an anti-markdown post I read a few years back.

"As far as I'm concerned the best tool for writing documentation is the one that anyone can actually be bothered to use. Markdown might not be perfect but at least it's simple and commonly understood so there isn't much barrier to writing/updating documentation." - warmans

husarcik··on Ask HN: Does anyone have celiac disease and how do you deal with that?
This sounds like a wheat allergy as Celiac disease does not present with anaphylaxis. It doesn't mean a person cannot have both conditions. I can imagine it must be difficult explaining how serious the reaction can be as most people think wheat allergy is the same as Celiac disease. The immune response is quite different [1].

husarcik··on Ask HN: What are tech fields that physicians can get involved in?
#2 is pretty interesting. As a medical student, I haven't had much exposure to billing codes but that will soon change. I'll keep your idea in mind while I'm learning. Thanks for sharing!
husarcik··on Ask HN: What are tech fields that physicians can get involved in?
Weird! Thanks for trying. I'll see if I can re-join on my end.
husarcik··on Thank HN: My SaaS paid my rent this month

husarcik··on Physician burnout widespread, especially among those midcareer, report says
I can see the burnout starting in medical school and I would not be surprised if this trend continues to get worse.
husarcik··on Machine keeps human livers alive for one week outside of the body
My medical education is congruent with your thoughts. Liver failure is defined as partial or complete loss of function. You're also right about the "too poisoned to survive" aka end-stage liver disease. People in this stage often die from too much toxin build up, infection, or bleeding. Your explanation is great.
husarcik··on Ask HN: What are you working on this decade?
My goal is figuring out how to combine my interest in medicine and technology as a physician. Unsure how I will do this since I'm currently a third year medical student, but I hope the opportunity presents itself soon.

What are you working on OP?
