hunter321··on Show HN: Dress Circle – IMDB for UK Theatre
Why don't you use IMDb?
hunter321··on Ask HN: How many computers you got?
One personal Mac I use daily.

One work laptop, also a Mac.

One iPad I basically never use.

One ChromeBook I literally never use, think it has a broken screen.

hunter321··on A magical AWS serverless developer experience
This is how many (most?) teams develop at...Amazon. It definitely scales to large teams and large (1000TPS) projects.
hunter321··on Aaron Swartz introducing Infogami (2006)
Aww I really miss Aaron. I used to be angry but now I'm just sad.
hunter321··on Ask HN: How can I best utilize $20k towards a startup idea?
Do you have any responsibilities? Take that 20k and go traveling. Note this may or may not be good advice.
hunter321··on My favorite things about working at companies with a culture of writing
Well it's not Amazon. I genuinely feel that we've got a great doc writing culture.

We obviously write a ton of docs but only when we need to. Personally I code 60% of the time as an IC L5 (software engineer)

hunter321··on Facebook Messenger blocks messages containing “di.wang”
Not surprised. I work at a different FANG and we literally have the Scunthorpe problem.
hunter321··on Ask HN: What are your hobbies?
Scuba Diving - it's great, everyone should try it. Although it's fairly expensive as hobbies go.

Equalise early and often!

hunter321··on Poll: Where do you live?
Given how many people browse HN at work it would be super skewed.
hunter321··on The implementation of the UK Covid-19 dashboard

>Using the right browser - only use Microsoft Edge PEACH is compatible with Microsoft Edge, but only when Internet Explorer mode is enabled. For guidance on setting up Internet Explorer mode in Edge, follow this link to instructions on the Microsoft Support Page.

Yeah, there's still some way to go.

hunter321··on Boeing 777 departing Dubai nearly had a major incident after takeoff
Out of curiosity what job did you have that required you to fly 100s of times a year for a decade (assuming you're not in the aviation industry).

Edit; never mind, I looked at your profile.

hunter321··on “Coding is basically just ifs and for loops.”
I'm one one of a small number of people at my FANNG company that can work on a legacy MM LoC Perl project.

Many of them are much smarter than me, but I think my insight which I remember getting around 6 months in is that it's just code, in many places hard to read/follow, but it will ultimately just do a logical set of instructions.

hunter321··on Why don't tech companies pay their engineers to stay?
As much as everyone hates on Amazon, no manager can block a internal transfer, maximum they can do is keep you for 4 weeks (with a very, very good reason).

The average tenure on many, many teams is 6 months.

Does help starve off the boredom.
