humanfromearth··on Philae has landed
It will dig into the surface anyway so it will anchor itself even without the harpoon, if it's on the surface of course.

See this video that explains how Philae foots work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-77-Z_DHTlY#t=84

ESA says it landed gently on the surface: https://twitter.com/esaoperations/status/532575615527170048

humanfromearth··on Pgweb: Web-based PostgreSQL database browser written in Go
Can't we give a lot of money to the guy who made Sequel Pro to make a PG version?
humanfromearth··on Rosetta: The ambition to turn science fiction into science fact
Also the surface temperature seems to be -68.15C (avg) - typical Syberia, only there is no atmosphere and sufficient gravity and magnetic field to protect from radiation.

Otherwise it's fine.

humanfromearth··on Building Web Apps with Go
Aren't there a lot of required packages to build a webapp? I would recommend against using any of those at least in the beginning. Maybe gorilla/mux, but even that can be avoided.

Don't just add deps you will never use, it's going to make your life painful.

humanfromearth··on Show HN: Memory Chimp – How good is your working memory?
Did the same thing but with pairs of 3 (1-2-3, 4-5-6..)
humanfromearth··on Ask HN: What are you building?
Thanks for the suggestion! It's definitely something on the roadmap: https://github.com/humanfromearth/quicktext-chrome/issues/22
humanfromearth··on Ask HN: What are you building?
I'm working on a Chrome extension for Gmail. The main feature is Tab completion of templates. If you do a lot of Gmail it might save you a lot of time:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/quicktext-for-chro...

humanfromearth··on Show HN: Chrome Extension for writing faster in Gmail
This extension uses templates or 'canned responses' to write repetitive e-mails faster. You can define your own tab completions, template variables, and so on.

If you use Gmail a lot than you should install this extension just to complete simple salutes such as: "Hello Firstname,".

I'm the author. Ask me anything.

humanfromearth··on Geek rants on git
Waste of parsing time from my part. Save yourself 20 seconds and don't read this.
humanfromearth··on [dead]
Russian troops help organising referendums now at least that is common in all reports.
humanfromearth··on Popcorn Time – Watch torrent movies instantly
And google.com too?
humanfromearth··on Popcorn Time – Watch torrent movies instantly
If you look at this file here: https://github.com/popcorn-time/popcorn-app/blob/master/js/t...

It sends usage data to Google Analytics. I can see how this can translate into you getting caught. Be careful.

Even if you don't have a 'trackingId' set it still sends GET requests to http://google.com/

humanfromearth··on Show HN: Wagtail, our new Django CMS
Looks great. One thing that I find not so good is: There are no tests.

It would be hard to convince anyone to contribute without some unit tests.

humanfromearth··on 135 new currencies at Stripe
You can get the list of allowed currency codes from the Stripe API: https://stripe.com/docs/api#account See: "currencies_supported"
humanfromearth··on Startup developing HIV/AIDS vaccine is 2nd nonprofit accepted into Y Combinator
So have they developed a vaccine, but they need money for trials, delivery..? How exactly would they go about and test if it works on humans? Are there people who volunteer to get infected with HIV?
humanfromearth··on How Software Companies Die (1995)
I had the same reaction. Pizzas? Overweight dudes with their 'tight' code?
humanfromearth··on Go 1.2
I was wondering when we'll get three-index slices
humanfromearth··on The Best and Worst Jobs in the U.S. (2009)
Guess the country game:

14th best job: Parole Officer

humanfromearth··on Linux has better hardware support than OS X
Because Xcode. Some of us need to iOS apps too even if it's not our first priority. At this moment the only sane way to do that is having OSX installed on a Mac.
humanfromearth··on Yandex Islands
Seems like it's similar to Google's Knowledge Graph. Very nice. Well done Yandex.
humanfromearth··on Startup advice
"Hire people that you could describe as animals." - who the fk is this guy?
humanfromearth··on Google reportedly in talks with Warby Parker to make Google Glass look cool
I think they should have different versions. The existing one looks more to me like the "sport" version which is fine to me because I would totally use this while riding my bike in the big city. However I would probably not wear this kind of glasses while at a party so I guess a different style would be better for that case.
humanfromearth··on Show HN: GetHacker - Paid, short term projects for developers

humanfromearth··on Curiosity rover: Martian solar day 2
Why is there a black patch on the back of the rover?
humanfromearth··on Build muscle memory with your favorite editor
Agreed. Same problem here. Perhaps a visual display of what needs to be done would be a lot more useful. I have no clue of how this could be done though. At the same time if you want to build muscle memory, just use the damn editor and you get it eventually :)
humanfromearth··on Introducing Developer ID and Gatekeeper
Everytime I hear "protect" our citizens or users I grab tight to my wallet and look for exits.
humanfromearth··on Google+ gets a redesign
I asked for <pre> support and look what they did instead.
humanfromearth··on Twenty-year-old Alex Rawlings speaks 11 languages
Wow, and I thought I'm cool for being fluent in 4 languages.
humanfromearth··on Iran Shuts Down Major Websites and Https Protocol
They control the physical network. As long as they have that control they will be able to do what they want. The only way to deal with these fuckers (not just Iran) is to start using collectively Ipsec or something similar. All SSL movement is just the beginning. I'm sure every big service will try to encrypt it's traffic more and more to protect itself from governments that try to criminalize their users.

Forcing countries like China, Iran and US to go into dark ages if they don't use the new all encrypted networks.

It's a shame that we are so paranoid as a species that we need to do that, but I don't see any other way.

I know this is extreme, but I don't want to see the freedom I enjoy right now taken away by these obsolete power hungry entities.
