human_error··on Microsoft earnings blow past estimates in every category, beats Street
> If you have a specific example of GCP support not working well for you, please drop me a line at jani at google dot com and I'll be happy to look into it.

Unfortunately you just described why people won't prefer GCP. With your competitor, AWS, people actually get a support but with GCP, they don't get anyone unless they complain on reddit, hacker news, twitter etc. and hoping that one of GCP employees may come across to their issue and they'd get some support. No sane company would invest into this.

human_error··on Why we chose Vue.js over React
What are those mistakes? I don't do front-end development so my knowledge is very limited with these (I know the names and a basic idea what they do)
human_error··on Last.Backend becomes open-source
It's easier to install and maintain than Mesos. If you're not doing any big-data (which is 99.99% of people out there), it's good enough.
human_error··on Lucee – A lightweight dynamic scripting language for the JVM
Don't even bother. This is Coldfusion. Irrelevant for a decade if not more.
human_error··on Ask HN: What is the state of C++ vs. Rust?
This is rubbish. You make huge claims without providing a single proof.
human_error··on EC2's most dangerous feature
Probably right time right place.
human_error··on RethinkDB is shutting down
> Why does nobody seem to have any introspection on why RethinkDB failed?

Because nobody used it.

human_error··on Scaling Rails to 125,000 Requests per Minute on Heroku
> I have seen a lot where joins are essentially done at the application level in loops in the relatively slow language

That's an indication of poor programming skills rather than programming language being "slow".

human_error··on Best interview questions to spot ideal employees
> Focused. Can they possibly eschew Facebook, Twitter, IM, Hacker News, et al. for eight hours?

What does it have to with being focused? I take some short breaks and visit HN and reddit to "empty" my mind and to have some fresh air not because I'm lazy or unfocused.

human_error··on Spacemacs 0.105.0 released
I tried it for couple of weeks but returned back to emacs. It has some cool features but I couldn't get used to its keybindings. I'm sure they're customizable but I wasn't motivated enough to do so.
human_error··on Yahoo Starts Prompting Chrome Users to “Upgrade” to Firefox
Well, if you're a Firefox user and don't use the latest Firefox I think it makes sense to show "upgrade to the new Firefox" message.
human_error··on Facebook Rooms
I don't think so. I didn't try to download but I can see it on Appstore.

> Hiring for Go — I wouldn’t even know where to start

Let's go with metaphors. Programming languages and driving a car are similar things. When you change your car from Toyota to Audi, you don't learn everything from scratch. You just spend sometime to get used to the car (wheeling, brakes etc) and then you're all set. Programming languages are similar. When you switch from language A to language B, you don't learn programming from scratch. So, when you want to hire someone to code in Go, you just hire a developer and tell them they're going to code in Go. After getting used with Go, they would be all set.

human_error··on Ask HN: Is Sublime Text dead?
It's my editor of choice at work. I use it daily. Have never experienced crash.
human_error··on Satoshi Nakamoto denies being Dorian Nakamoto
Even if Dorian is lying about knowing what bitcoin is, I think it wouldn't be a proof of Dorian = Satoshi. He might be worried people would dig his personal life more if he acknowledges he knows what bitcoin is.
human_error··on How Google missed the boat
I think Apple was just testing the waters with Ping; more like a social experiment for Apple. I don't think they actually cared much.
human_error··on Linus Torvalds and other developers are leaving Bitcoins on the table
In all fairness $136 isn't really serious amount of money to be collected and it can be a little bit trickier for someone who isn't used to Bitcoin. I wouldn't bother to collect it as well.
human_error··on Female Founders Conference
> You can apply if you are male.

Don't you think it'd be just a 'founders conference' in that case?

human_error··on Female Founders Conference
> I feel like I've seen that conference before, many times.

Really? Where? Could you please give an example?

human_error··on Python 3.3: Trust Me, It's Better Than Python 2.7 (2013)
concurrent.futures is available for Python 2.x.
human_error··on Questions to ask your potential employer
I had a job interview two days ago and the manager covered the first 9 questions before I asked (I had 1,2,3,4 and 6 on mind but he talked about all of those topics). I don't know if it's a good sign or a bad sign though.
human_error··on Anxiety over the new Gmail Compose
Maybe she's a business user and pays for it. Business version also has the same bad layout.
human_error··on Reddit: Lessons Learned From Scaling To 1 Billion Pageviews A Month
> Used the Pylons (Django was too slow), a Python based framework, from the start

This isn't quite right. It was web.py at the beginning. They have started using Pylons after Conde Nast acquisition.

human_error··on Python vs Go - Requests per Second
This isn't Python vs. Go. This is bottle.py vs Go.
human_error··on Web server in one line of bash
Another one: http://paulbuchheit.blogspot.com/2007/04/webserver-in-bash.h...
human_error··on Yahoo shutting down AltaVista and other services
I've looked at the list and I don't think any value would be lost due to these services.
human_error··on Go read: fast Google Reader clone in AngularJS with Go on App Engine
Is this how Google Reader used to look like? I'm asking this because UI is very similar to CommaFeed (https://www.commafeed.com/)
human_error··on An Introduction to the Go Language
> Go has a rich standard library which covers a lot of areas.

The last time I've looked at it there wasn't queue, deque, stack libraries in standard library. There wasn't even a UUID library. I'm not sure if it has these libraries in 1.1.

> In fact, Go is probably the only language that can claim to have a fully working Web server as part of its standard library.

Python has a built-in HTTP server (including a CGI one too).

> Go has built-in concurrency, which allows parallelism in an easier way than is possible in other languages.

How does Go make it easier than those unnamed languages? Go didn't even have race detection tool until 1.1.

human_error··on In 2009, Ed Snowden said leakers “should be shot.” Then he became one

human_error··on Why Snowden Asked Visitors in Hong Kong to Refrigerate Their Phones
How about putting phones inside the microwave and then putting microwave inside the fridge?
