hulahoof··on World-First 'Super Alloy' Could Transform the Way Metals Are Made
Buried in the article it sounds like the researchers consider it a Refractory High-Entropy Alloy (RHEAD)
hulahoof··on Wikipedia Workers to Seek Union Recognition
Whatever happened to the deepmind union effort ?
hulahoof··on Identity verification on Claude
If you haven’t already, check out omnigent for building workflows across multiple harnesses: https://omnigent.ai/

(Disclaimer: I work for Databricks, but do not work on omnigent - though I have submitted some QOL PRs as a community member)

hulahoof··on Google DeepMind workers in UK vote to unionize amid deal with US Military
Anyone from Deepmind able to comment on this move?

From the outside this seems like a big play - UK arm moving to block a US defence deal, first major unionisation of tech workers in the MAG7, employees that would be difficult to replace in the current AI race ..

Thought this would be front page!

hulahoof··on Shai-Hulud Themed Malware Found in the PyTorch Lightning AI Training Library

hulahoof··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
Looks like Maduro and his wife were captured https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/1158304287678...
hulahoof··on Why I think Valve’s retiring the Steam Deck LCD
I think they recently said they aren’t looking for a refresh for at least 2 years https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/valve-says-a-next-gen-steam...
hulahoof··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
Local news (Australia) is reporting this as extra pressure on Denmark relating to the rhetoric around Greenland

hulahoof··on Stanford to continue legacy admissions and withdraw from Cal Grants
I’m not from the US so apologies if I miss something that seems obvious, but why should they have a higher standard instead of the same standard?
hulahoof··on Helix: A Vision-Language-Action Model for Generalist Humanoid Control
Sounds like what Hololens was designed to solve, more in the AR space than AI though
hulahoof··on LibreOffice still kicking at 40, now with browser tricks and real-time collab
After you hit one of them, an 'undown' or 'unvote' button appears in front of the 'root' / 'parent' button
hulahoof··on Maestro: Netflix's Workflow Orchestrator
But when Airbnb created airflow, you could have said the same. It’s just later in its lifecycle.
hulahoof··on Puzzle made by the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for the university quest
Thanks exactly what I was after!
hulahoof··on Puzzle made by the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for the university quest
This article claims Assange is a likely organiser of Cicada 3301, this is not a theory I have heard before - does anyone have any resources that expand on this ?

hulahoof··on Should You Be Rinsing Your Plates Before Loading the Dishwasher?
Always a point of contention between my partner and I, but I am firmly in the 'rinse-before-loading' camp.

Theres only so much the filter in a dishwasher can take before it clogs, and it is easier and a better clean to simply rinse the bulk off quickly then pop it in the dishwasher for a proper clean.

The article addresses this by saying just to scrape it off first, but I am convinced I get a better clean if the bulk of the sauce etc., is washed off too. Maybe I am imagining it.

hulahoof··on When a black hole and a neutron star merge
This was a refreshingly good press release about the event
hulahoof··on CyberChef from GCHQ: Cyber Swiss Army Knife

hulahoof··on Child abduction case: Tom and Jerry cartoons helped police identify suspects
YouTube search terms are query parameters in the url so wouldn’t need to break TLS
hulahoof··on Computer memory prototype ditches 1s and 0s for denser data storage
I assume they mean absolute distance

abs(3-e) < abs(2-e)

hulahoof··on There is no data engineering roadmap
I work in the aus data space, I’ve met a lot of intelligent PHD data scientists, but very rare is it to meet one who can scale their work efficiently across the org. The amount of time wasted on models that never make it to production is ridiculous.

hulahoof··on Venus is not Earth’s closest neighbor (2019) [pdf]
I always assumed this line uses the traditional order of planets from the sun and referenced the common trope that "Men are from Mars, Women from Venus".
hulahoof··on Why do studios use Roman numerals in the copyright notice in the end credits?
V -> VI -> VII

I imagine that the ones with preceeding values would be harder though, perhaps XIX -> XX for example

hulahoof··on Future Blues – Emily's Cowboy Bebop Page (1999)
I've always thought if myspace had .js support we would have an army of quite diverse programmers.

Some of the girls from my school were absolute guns at myspace profiles! Put me to shame :)

I myself got started from neopets and then myspace to foster my interest in a career (with a healthy bit of WoW botting).

hulahoof··on Johnson and Johnson reaches deal for $8.9B talc settlement

As noted in your link Hornsdale Power Reserve is in South Australia, which is what the parent used as a good example of preparation.
hulahoof··on 111-1111111 is a valid Windows 95 key (2021) [video]
As a kid my main source of new games was to hire it from the video store overnight, install it and then download a no-cd crack. I dont recall ever running into issues finding one.
