It worked because the returned "is this you" image at the time returned a filename that was a base64 encoding of the users ID for the graph interface, which at the time pulled back a surprising amount of info if you query the key directly (obtaining the key generally required you to be a friend-of-friend or closer).
I got hit rates of about 70% for a sample of ~100,000 email/mobile pairs (that were already suspected to be valid).
Sounds like the trick to get the key has been resolved (I was too early in my career to feel comfortable disclosing my research) but I am surprised a similar vector exists almost a decade on - especially after the whole Cambridge Analytica fiasco.
It would be good to know what sort of overhead we are looking at here; very interested in this feature
I think it's a cool idea that may have results in the future, which is how I felt he presented it.
You will notice I did not call out anyone for denying help to make rape victims, merely that I believe bad actors exist in all facets of society. I by no means am putting down the hard work of the heroes who give their time to help people. I find your black and white response just as disgusting, to ignore that people can take positions of power over others and abuse them.
As for naming names, I have given an example of an organisation I find abhorrent.
Of course, my beliefs don't amount to anything other than researching who I personally give money to, but I do not find it far-fetched to believe that some agencies act in bad faith; I have a hard time aligning with the false memory syndrome foundation for example.
Edit: I can see it's quarterly in FAQ
" gcloud tells me:
WARNING: The following zones did not respond: us-west2, us-west2-a, southamerica-east1-c, us-west2-b, southamerica-east1, us-east4-b, us-east4, us-east4-a, northamerica-northeast1-c, northamerica-northeast1-b, us-west2-c, southamerica-east1-b, northamerica-northeast1, southamerica-east1-a, northamerica-northeast1-a, us-east4-c. List results may be incomplete.
Luckily for us eu-west1 seems to be working normally."
So the user's outside these zones may have been unaffected, but if this is accurate it is a large number of users affected
I was not disputing we all have an internal bias built up by our experiences. The crux of that point is you try to minimise your own bias and try to further reduce that bias by including the bias of the remainder of society.
I don't think this is a terrible way to select a political candidate.
As an aside I don't understand how a political discussion could exist without bias. What is your model of politics that would allow it to exist without bias?
You can verify if it's exposed on this site[2].

Then as a society we apply the wisdom of the crowd.
I know it sucks when an IP gets burned, but when you're acting in good faith it's a rarity - or has been in my experience.
I wonder if any developed countries middle class is faring well currently?
Edit: I read the preface and I had no idea about the disgusting behaviour exhibited towards the Tibetan protesters in Canberra as the Beijing torch passed through[1].
I'm on my way to work and it is actually making me feel ill.
I will be changing providers as soon as my contract allows.
