huhkerrf··on Talking to strangers at the gym
I have a ton of "gym friends." And this is a commercial gym. We know each other's names, will help out with spots, have small conversations. None of those have yet led to hanging out outside the gym, but if you go to the gym at the same time every day, you're bound to at least start to recognize people, and it's really easy to say, hey I've seen you around a lot, my name is...
huhkerrf··on Santa Cruz restaurant changes logo after flurry of negative reviews for AI art
> One remaining one-star review on Google reads, “Their logo is AI generated, if they can’t make the effort to create a logo they definitely won’t make the effort to cook good food.”

I'm not sure what it's called, but there has to be a name for this logical error.

huhkerrf··on GameStop Preparing Offer for eBay
Time ticks for everyone... One day some company will be buying the remains of Amazon.
huhkerrf··on Acetaminophen vs. ibuprofen
I don't do it in France only because I don't need it. It won't cost me anything otherwise.

(It is worthwhile to note, because Americans don't realize this, but not all medicines that a doctor prescribes for you is free, although the overwhelming majority will be.)

huhkerrf··on Acetaminophen vs. ibuprofen
Since we're talking about acetaminophen and ibuprofen, in France you're liable to end up with a medicine cabinet full of acetaminophen, because almost anytime you go to the doctor with any type of pain, they add it to the prescription.
huhkerrf··on Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building an AI clone to replace him in meetings
You're not wrong, but also, it's a bit of hindsight bias: how many sure thing acquisitions whither?
huhkerrf··on Tax Wrapped 2025
It's 62%: https://news.gallup.com/poll/266807/percentage-americans-own...

At what point does that tip to "meaningful population" for you?

huhkerrf··on I gave every train in New York an instrument
The sound doesn't work for me, but I love the description of the G. It does have a cult following: and just like a cult you're tricked into loving it despite its many flaws, like the one hour wait at night or sprinting to the middle of the platform.
huhkerrf··on Show HN: Pardonned.com – A searchable database of US Pardons
GW Bush also probably matches with Obama for your description, though he did commute (but not pardon) Cheney's Chief of Staff, which caused a permanent rift between Bush and Cheney.

He also revoked a pardon when he discovered that one had his father donate large sums to the RNC.

huhkerrf··on How Pope Leo is pushing back on divine justification of war
Without speaking to the topic of GP, military chaplaincy is highly common. (I want to say universal, but I can't say with 100% confidence.)
huhkerrf··on Delve removed from Y Combinator
Why do non-Southerners keep insisting on this? Bless your heart can be said sincerely or ironically, like pretty much any other phrase.
huhkerrf··on r/programming bans all discussion of LLM programming
I think you're proving OP's point.
huhkerrf··on r/programming bans all discussion of LLM programming
I'm not sure how you can claim that going more mainstream would decrease the quality of a site that gave us "we did it reddit!" and "the bacon narwhals at midnight".
huhkerrf··on r/programming bans all discussion of LLM programming
While that may be true, there's a certain personality attached to reddit power users that is particularly odious.
huhkerrf··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
If you can find me some politicians, I would gladly yell at them that the DH and the pitch clock are unnatural and immoral.
huhkerrf··on Firefox introduces Split View: Two tabs side by side, right where you need them
The only place I've found it useful is when screen sharing and I have to show two tabs side by side, but I don't want to share my entire desktop.
huhkerrf··on A Journey Through Infertility
Adoption is incredibly, incredibly hard. Especially in Western countries, there are actually more people who want to adopt than there are kids to adopt. When you add in overseas adoption, it gets even harder and more expensive.

In short, adoption is incredibly expensive, stressful, and not a sure thing.

huhkerrf··on Chuck Norris has died
But it's not true the way GP phrased it. Norris did not say if a black man was elected then there would be 1000 years of darkness, he said it about a specific man who happens to be black. It's silly, but unless you're claiming that black politicians get special exemptions, his race is immaterial to this quote.
huhkerrf··on Chuck Norris has died
Death had to take Chuck Norris sleeping, for if he had been awake, there would have been a fight.
huhkerrf··on Meta and TikTok let harmful content rise to drove engagement, say whistleblowers
> Internal research shared with the BBC showed comments on Reels had significantly higher prevalence of bullying and harassment, hate speech, and violence or incitement than elsewhere on Instagram.

I mean, if you want to claim the Jews (let's be honest about what you mean by ISRAEL) are opposed to the above, then... good?

huhkerrf··on Trevor Milton is raising funds for a new jet he claims will transform flying
There's a school of thought that reporting on a bad person without coming out and saying "this is a bad person" is akin to endorsing that person.

Myself, I think people are mature enough to be able to read past a headline and come away from this with a clear eyed view of this fraudster.

huhkerrf··on Pentagon expands oversight of Stars and Stripes, limits content
Trump's whole thing is saying things that sound both absolutely horrible and at least kinda sorta defensible, depending on who is hearing it.
huhkerrf··on Claude, you are a cutie-pie – by Margaret Atwood
Scroll down to the very end. This is a paid post, as in you have to pay to see the whole thing. It's just that the preview is very long.
huhkerrf··on Digg is gone again
> A majority of people there are just downright awful, and the mods are often power-hungry and overzealous in their actions.

If you're telling me it's _worse_ than reddit in this regard, I can only imagine how terrible it is.

huhkerrf··on Ireland shuts last coal plant, becomes 15th coal-free country in Europe (2025)
> 2038: Germany

Well, sure is good the environmentalists shut down the German nuclear plants!

huhkerrf··on Re-creating the complex cuisine of prehistoric Europeans
In Cajun food, bell peppers replace carrots: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_trinity_(cooking)
huhkerrf··on Spain’s LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov
Well, I mean, I think it's pretty obvious that when someone claims that the author is "claiming moral outrage about issues they either don't understand or wilfully misrepresent" then what he does for a living matters.
huhkerrf··on Spain’s LaLiga has blocked access to freedom.gov
I'm pretty sure the President and CEO of the leading free expression organization today understands what he's talking about and is fully aware that there are bad things happening in this vein in the US.
huhkerrf··on Meta to retire messenger desktop app and messenger.com in April 2026
I imagine that's part of the motivation behind this decision.
