httpz··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
The supply isn't fixed. A new plant takes 3-5 years to build and cost tens of billions. DRAM companies don't always know where the demand will be when the next plant completes. 2 years ago there was too much supply so DRAM price hit rock bottom. So DRAM companies held back on investing in new plants so here we are now.

We'll simply use more tokens then.

httpz··on Micron CEO Says Memory Supply Will Be Much Tighter in 2027 and 2028 Than in 2026
The Big 3 (Samsung, Hynix, Micron) have been playing this game for 30+ years. There used to be many more DRAM companies but most of them went bankrupt when DRAM was cheap because the big 3 will intentionally drive the price down to bankrupt the competition. Now that they have a tri-opoly, they're milking the profits. New competition will emerge but they don't have the capital of the big 3 so they likely won't survive the next DRAM winter.
httpz··on iPhone Duo
Are you suggesting Apple made a foldable phone without doing any market research on demand?
httpz··on iPhone Duo
Galaxy Fold is popular with older people who have trouble reading small text
httpz··on Norway should buy OpenAI
OpenAI may be what IBM was to PC or Motorola was to mobile phones. PC and mobile phones certainly changed the world but IBM nor Motorola controlled that change.
httpz··on Nobody knows what a used GPU cluster is worth
A typical hair dryer uses about 1500W. I guess GPUs are mechanically not much different from a hair dryer.
httpz··on Sagrada Família Lego set
If you can't afford to buy the lego, you definitely can't afford to have the space to display it.
httpz··on Sagrada Família Lego set
Only the collectible ones. It's do different with shoes, cars, Pokemon cards, etc
httpz··on Waymo pauses Atlanta service as its robotaxis keep driving into floods
Guessing the depth of a puddle is not an easy task. Many untrained horses will refuse to step into shallow puddles. Then we also have human drivers driving into flooded road.
httpz··on Southwest Headquarters Tour
I highly recommend a free Amazon warehouse tour. You really get to see how the items you order gets picked and packaged.
httpz··on BYD Seal 08 debuts with Blade Battery 2.0: 1,000km range, 5-min charging, 684hp

httpz··on Laws of Software Engineering
That's why we call it software engineering, not software science.
httpz··on South Korea Mandates Solar Panels for Public Parking Lots
In places with a lot of flat empty land, solar farms are a lot cheaper. South Korea doesn't have any flat empty land though..
httpz··on South Korea Mandates Solar Panels for Public Parking Lots
It's a desert so trees can't survive without irrigation. Since water is scarce as well, there aren't enough trees to cover the vast low density area.
httpz··on South Korea Mandates Solar Panels for Public Parking Lots
One important detail is lost in translation. This law applies to publicly-funded parking lots. Public parking does not mean any parking lot open to the general public in this case.

It's car optimized because the 110F weather makes it un-walkable in the first place. When I lived in a walkable city, I would prefer to walk 30 minutes than drive. When I lived in Phoenix, I did not want to spend more than 30 seconds outside in the summer.
httpz··on Labor market impacts of AI: A new measure and early evidence
This is a classic case of Productivity Paradox when personal computers were first introduced into workplaces in the 80s.

A famous economist once said, "You can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics."

There are many reasons for the lag in productivity gain but it certainly will come.

httpz··on Labor market impacts of AI: A new measure and early evidence
There's a famous quote by a cyclist, "It never gets easier, you just go faster"
httpz··on South Korean ex president Yoon Suk Yeol jailed for life for leading insurrection
Not that I agree with the pardons, but former presidents are usually old. Letting your political opponent die in prison can have a massive backlash so most presidents would rather not let that happen.
httpz··on Micron Announces Exit from Crucial Consumer Business
I'm half joking but if this AI boom continues we're going to see Nvidia exit from consumer GPU business. But Jensen Huang will never do that to us... (I hope)
httpz··on Micron Announces Exit from Crucial Consumer Business
The brand aware "consumers" are really just DIY PC builders, which is relatively a small number. Enterprise DRAM business is doing so great that Micron just doesn't see the consumer market is worth chasing.

This is bad for consumers though since DRAM prices are skyrocketing and now we have one less company making consumer DRAM.

httpz··on NASA's Voyager Found a 30k-50k Kelvin "Wall" at the Edge of Solar System
Well unless there's some ghost-like life form in a gas state, we sort of need the molecules to stay together to form life.

httpz··on Why We're Falling Out of Love with Tesla
It was definitely not perfectly clear. I was very confused when I first read the comment.

If we were talking about laptops I would know M3 refers to the processor, but there's literally a car named "M3" that's been popular for nearly 40 years.

httpz··on Why We're Falling Out of Love with Tesla
Sir, M3 means something else in the car world
httpz··on Nvidia’s $589B DeepSeek rout
Nvida has a P/E of 47. While it may be a bit high for a semiconductor company, it's definitely not a meme stock figure.
httpz··on Show HN: I made an open-source laptop from scratch
I sometimes wonder how many talented engineers top colleges are rejecting because they were busy working on real engineering projects like this than academics and test scores.
httpz··on Weight-loss drug found to shrink muscle in mice, human cells
Some of the side effects of semaglutide are just a result of eating less calories.

Without a control group who also ate the same amount of calories but without the drug, it's hard to know if the side effect were directly caused by semaglutide or just a result of being in a calorie deficit.
