very old english, that pretends to be modern but sounds dumb ;)

Actually, I'm not very good speaking english. It's not my first language, if anything, it's the last one. :P

A long history for some practice does not make it right.
hso1··on Yelp Fired Manager After He Didn't Take Calls, Check Email 24/7, Lawsuit Claims
Exactly. There is nothing in the Bible that authorizes the change. In fact, the Catholic Church has said so explicitly and takes pride in being the one who changed it from Saturday to Sunday.

Them having tradition AND scripture as foundations for doctrine, have no trouble reconciling their practices with their sources. And I think they're consistent on this point.

What I think is a big problem with doctrine in all protestant denominations is claiming they follow the Bible as they know it, and accepting without a secound thought this legacy of the church they separated from.

One can make up all sorts of fables about why Sabbath is Sunday now (such as that Jesus resurrected on Sunday) to justify it, but the plain truth is that the change originates with the Catholic church.

(I don't understand why the downvotes to my comment above. I'm just pointing out some interesting things, not trying to say someone "You're not going to heaven")

hso1··on To fixate on finding work that makes us happy is a luxury
What do we need our passion for? To motivate ourselves? IMO, we have a problem when we expect to feel motivated to do stuff.

I think we need to learn to do stuff even if we "don't feel it" yet, that state comes later as a reward for doing.

Long ago I read an article that made me think about this: http://www.wisdomination.com/screw-motivation-what-you-need-...

There's a post on building Docker images with Nix: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11502989
hso1··on Nix as OS X Package Manager
No. The shell is slower processing the download. You can detect this on the server. See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11532599
hso1··on Nix as OS X Package Manager
I don't know for sure, but I think it's installed under /nix thinking of multi-user Nix installs. With Nix any system user can install its own set of packages and on NixOS there are build users that install packages on behalf of normal users.

Did you know that a malicious server can detect if you are piping to a shell and serve a completely different thing? D:

We use it on Python projects instead of virtualenv. A problem that you sometimes have with virtualenv is that you must install libpq-dev and python headers and what not to install from pip if the package has native extensions.

With Nix you just declare postgresql as your package inputs and you are done. All needed parts to build and install psycopg2 are there.

Your package/project is completely isolated from your OS libs.

hso1··on Nix as OS X Package Manager
Yes. I'm unconfortable doing this as well. Not only with Nix, I really think you shouldn't do it, ever. On Ubuntu/Debian, at least, I'm installing the .deb package.
hso1··on Nix as OS X Package Manager
For me the biggest benefit is reproducibility. I can get a package to build on any machine exactly the same and with no hidden dependencies.

Since I discovered Nix, I've been using it as a package manager for OS X and Linux. Every project my team is working on now has a default.nix file. Getting started on a project is so easy for a new hire now: just one `nix-env` away from a fully working dev environment! :D
