hshdhdhehd··on Ticker: Don't die of heart disease
I think the point is it is cheap to prevent. The weird tip is doing a different test to the standard one, which costs little for typical HNers (but admit every $ counts for many people esp. with current inflation, poverty, bad governance) but sounds like on par with a dentist doing anything beyond a checkup.
hshdhdhehd··on Ticker: Don't die of heart disease
It is a long read and I want to make time for it. Quick search check and calc (for calcify etc.) and diet appear alot in the article which is not surprising based on other things I have watched on the subject.
hshdhdhehd··on Former Capitol Police officer a forensic match for Jan. 6 pipe bomber
Getting "Bite mark" vibes from this. How does "94% match" convert to P(this is same person|nothing else)?

(Nothing else because interested in the tech, rather than the J6 stuff Tbh)

hshdhdhehd··on Apple is crossing a Steve Jobs red line
And app developers too. Maybe sister comment about something cloud. Can fleece devs for more money too, bonus!
hshdhdhehd··on Apple is crossing a Steve Jobs red line
It is worrying that the machines many of HN rely on are the minority of their revenue so they'd not even flinch financially to mess up that product line. TF for Linux/x86/arm as an alternative ecosystem that is not controlled by one party.
hshdhdhehd··on YouTube Removes Windows 11 Bypass Tutorials, Claims 'Risk of Physical Harm'
They cant remove all the Ubuntu installation tutorials surely?
hshdhdhehd··on Should facial analysis help determine whom companies hire?
It is not even interesting as Betteridge as they used "should" not "can".

Questions:

1. Should they do it (morally)? No

2. Should they do it (proft motive)? No

3. Can they do it (legally)? probably not.

4. Can they do it (technologically)? Yes

5. If they do it is it accurate? (See palm reading...)

hshdhdhehd··on Should facial analysis help determine whom companies hire?
Yeah we need to constantly fight against this. Easy to LOL you get sued today but will that be true tomorrow.
hshdhdhehd··on Leaving Meta and PyTorch
Nice, that is the dream career!
hshdhdhehd··on You should write an agent
There is a lot of stuff I should do. From making my own CPU from a breadboard of nand gates to building a CDN in Rust. But aint got time for all the things.

That said I built an LLM following Karpathy's tutorial. So I think it aims good to dabble a bit.

hshdhdhehd··on UK outperforms US in creating unicorns from early stage VC investment
Also it is not measuring average returns per $ but returns split by company then a vector operation of ceiling (1bn) divided by my 1bn then aggregated.
hshdhdhehd··on Ask HN: A service for dating through escape rooms with strangers?
Yes. But possibly make it more "make friends" oriented. Although there could be singles and up for a date versions if you want and more "i definitely just want to make friends only" versions. But I think the evaluation at the end is not needed. Just encourage people to exchange details if they want to.
hshdhdhehd··on Ask HN: A service for dating through escape rooms with strangers?
Sounds pretty social to me. Escape room then likey you end up chatting after and going somewhere else if you get along. Maybe as a group.
hshdhdhehd··on NY school phone ban has made lunch loud again
Yeah I used to finish my job on a computer and go use another computer for fun. The smart phone is just a smaller one of tbose.

Capitalism isn't all bad. Example: you can actually buy real food.

hshdhdhehd··on AI Slop vs. OSS Security
In the AI age I'd prefer poorly written reports in broken English. Just as long as that doesnt become a known bypass and so the AI is instructed to sound broken.
hshdhdhehd··on Eating stinging nettles
Is Dock Leaf soup good?
hshdhdhehd··on What the hell have you built
Yes that is simple, especially for a desktop app.

I would argue it is not resilient enough for a web app.

No one wrote the rules in stone, but I assume server side you want the host to manage data recovery and availability. Client side it is the laptop owners problem. On a laptop, availability is almost entirely correlated with "has power source" and "works" and data recovery "made a backup somehow".

So I think we are both right?

Anything like that. Dog breeds. Cultivations. Etc.
hshdhdhehd··on Ruby and Its Neighbors: Smalltalk
Typescript has brought a very powerful and flexible type system to the masses. It is absolutely amazing. Ill forgive it being based in JS.
hshdhdhehd··on What the hell have you built
Postgres is simpler. Get your cloud to manage it. Click to create instance, get failover with zero setup. Click button 2 to get guaranteed backups and snapshot point in time.
hshdhdhehd··on UPS plane crashes near Louisville airport
Unexpected way to increase air safety:

> In an effort to prevent similar accidents, officials captured and exterminated 1,235 Canada geese at 17 locations across New York City in mid-2009 and coated 1,739 goose eggs with oil to smother the developing goslings.[71] As of 2017, 70,000 birds had been intentionally killed in New York City through programs instituted after the ditching.[72]

Indeed it does

hshdhdhehd··on Why aren't smart people happier?
It is not smart to be happy all the time!

Yes this pilot knows he avoided death. Whereas everyone else may have "got lucky" without realising. Every crash you drive past on the motorway for example!

Unrelated but this was interesting:

> It departed from runway 01L Zwanenburgbaan (now known as runway 36C)
