hrishikesh1990··on DHH: Let It All Out
> And investigative reporters are not only completely within their right to cultivate and use such leaks, I'd say they're obligated to do it! So it's only right and fair that when this is turned at Basecamp, at least when evaluating the reporting, we take it on the chin.

It surely takes some balls to say this.

Cheers Andrew :)
hrishikesh1990··on Pay cut to work remotely – Fair deal?
True, but companies will then learn a lesson the hard way. They will see unhappy employees leaving their company, figure there's a problem due to discrimination in compensation and then try to fix it.
hrishikesh1990··on Pay cut to work remotely – Fair deal?
But didn't the remote employees feel discriminated? It might become a real problem if there 2 people in the exact same role, one working remotely & the other in office.
hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: Stay updated with bite-sized remote work content
Hey HN!

I find it super painful to find quality remote work content. Plus, there aren't any feeds or topics to subscribe to.

So we built one ourselves.

It currently only uses Twitter as a source but we plan to add other sources as well.

Would love to hear your feedback!

hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: The Remote Clan
We feel the current communities around remote work only focus on jobs in the form of job boards. They miss the basic human need - to interact.

So, we built The Remote Clan, a community for remote workers to build a strong career with the help of those who are pursuing the same goals.

We are in a very early-stage and would love to hear your feedback!

hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: The Remote Clan – Community for Remote Work
Hey everyone!

We have been working on Remote Tools for over a couple of years, trying to speed the growth of remote working.

However, we still felt there was something missing. Current communities around remote work only focus on jobs in the form of job boards. They miss the basic human need - to interact.

We built The Remote Clan, a community for remote workers to build a strong career with the help of those who are pursuing the same goals.

hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: Self-Care Toolkit for Remote Work
Hey everyone!

I have always felt that self-care is often misunderstood, ignored and even misused. The question isn't 'Do you take of yourself?' rather it is 'In what ways do you take care of yourself?'. I use a lot of self-care apps myself including Calm for meditation, WaterMinder to remind me to drink water or Reboot for taking breaks. So thought, why not create a mini directory of such apps with a short review on each.

The stash is live at https://self-care.remote.tools. Have also written an accompanying post at https://www.remote.tools/newsletter/self-care. This is a simple side project I picked up in my spare time and would love to hear your thoughts/ feedback!

hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: The Remote Working Chronicles – Personal Stories of Remote Workers
Remote work is invigorating, tough and undoubtedly, the present & future of work! We took it upon us to bring forward personal stories & experiences of successful remote workers - motivation, transition, challenges, likes/ dislikes & their overall journey.

Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback :)

hrishikesh1990··on Show HN: Remote Weekly – Articles, Podcasts, Products Around Remote Working
Hi HN!

We started this to share our thoughts around interesting content (articles, products, podcasts) on remote working. We feel almost all the content (websites, newsletters) online around remote work focuses largely around jobs. However, a lot of people want to talk and read about others’ experiences, know more about distributed teams and how they work.

This is our attempt to deliver such content weekly. We started this only a month back and is still in nascency. Would love to hear any feedback you may have for us :)

hrishikesh1990··on We do not pay to keep our messages perpetually in Slack and it’s intentional
We had a blast talking to Darren from GitLab. There was a lot we learnt about GitLab on why it participates so strongly in the narrative of remote working, how it tackles remote working difficulties, inputs on how companies can turn the remote switch on, and so on.

Quite interestingly, we reckoned GitLab being a strong and loud advocate of remote work is for social good, but also seems to be an important narrative for its IPO.

Interesting points. Will give this a try myself.

It actually does reduce build time. Screenshots of the same for the sample project are shown just below.
hrishikesh1990··on Ex-Google, current Coda Architect shares personal remote stories
Al shares his experiences of transitioning from Google to a remote working role. A "data-lover", he stumbled into remote work but has since also fallen in love with working remotely. He surely would like to catch more casual coffees with his co-workers, though. Do read his story - it is fun, real, and, importantly, very helpful!
hrishikesh1990··on Making Sense of Uber's Engineering (1/N of How to Build an X-like App/Business?)
Uber's tech is mammoth. Studying and understanding it can prove quite helpful if you are venturing into building your own business or a product or even a new feature. Not because you should align with it from day one, but so that you never fall into the trap of building fancy, complex tech in the early stages.

Here’s how I have planned the series: 1. I plan to start by understanding Uber's tech ecosystem 2. Next, delve into what you should (and should not be) building for your first product or feature 3. Finally, try to build an early version of an Uber-like app ourselves

In the first post, I would be covering point 1.

To make things simpler, I have italicised terms throughout the post which should only be taken as examples and skimmed through (have also hyperlinked them as well though in case you are interested to read further on them).

At all points, my intention to focus only on the larger picture and not get bogged down because of the details.

Would love to hear what the community has to say about this :)

hrishikesh1990··on Top remote-first tech products for the remote working community
Hey everyone!

I strongly believe remote working is the future of work. I have been working as a remote co-founder for over a year now and have tackled multiple issues along the way. One of the biggest hurdles was to find the right combination of tools to help me work effectively. I was surprised how there was not a single resource which conclusively recommends top products for specific use-cases. Hence, I decided to take it upon myself and built remote.tools.

Would really love to hear your feedback on the product. Shout out if you like remote.tools :)
