hparadiz··on California closed the Montana license plate loophole
This tries to apply a tax to people who have never set foot in California. I have no idea how this holds up.
hparadiz··on California closed the Montana license plate loophole
I don't get how it's constitutional for them to levy a tax on an officer of a company that does not live in the state just because one officer of the company does live in the state. Even weirder the law does not require the one officer that does live in California to have a company car. In other words they are trying to tax out of state cars with no proof those cars were ever in the state. This is gonna cause a mess in the courts.

Was born in Europe actually. Europeans love telling people what to do, how do it, and most importantly whether or not they are ALLOWED to do it. So yes classic Europeans.

I have a 6900 XT as well. Unfortunately it is only 512 GB/s.

With AMD the best you can do in the consumer market right now is an RX 7900 XTX which is about 960 GB/s.

We need OIDC tokens generated at the SSO placed on the dev environment upon user authentication and then have those OIDCs reusable among multiple mcps. People don't wanna login to 10 different mcps every morning.

That wrong assumption is part of the problem.

I've never had a Nix user actually able to explain why they use it in a way that coherently makes sense because it's a cult. You buy into it before know anything about it.

Classic HN. They flagged your comment for no reason. Classic Europeans.
hparadiz··on AI and the Destruction of the Creative Commons
A lot of these people didn't really care about those virtues they claim they represent. They just wanted power and control over something.
hparadiz··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
I currently have a small TTS model running in the background on my machine through which my agent(s) speak to me as they work. If that can be baked into an ASIC along with a few thousand voices in every major language then it should just be a utility chip on your mobo for anything that needs it. And yes, I too, am looking forward to it.
hparadiz··on Corporate America is getting hooked on open-source AI
We're gonna start baking in models like TTS with thousands of voices available in any language as a chip on device. They just need to hit 99% accuracy and then it's a done deal.
hparadiz··on Nobody Is Saying Why OpenAI and Anthropic Had Outages
9 AM PST / 12 Noon EST on weekday. All my co workers immediately went "oh codex is down lemme try Claude". Multiply that by millions. Easy to see how they all went down. The OpenAI downtime also coincided exactly with their tweets announcing GPT-6 and about an hour before they started to role it out.

It was 1000% a cascade. I would bet on it.

hparadiz··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
The OpenAI outage lasted only 15 minutes and when it happened everyone started to use the other models which created super heavy load for them. This then cascaded into them all being down.

Does this really need an explanation?

No one I know uses the built in VSCode extensions anymore. It's all TUIs now. You can use Opencode as a TUI now for local.

hparadiz··on Google AI Mode shows same products 21.6% more expensive than traditional search
I started to use TUIs to do this. Have them track "tracked" products in a local storage mechanism and otherwise browse the web as normal through a controlled browser. It's not optimal but it's the only way to have some control over what it's doing.

hparadiz··on The safest job from AI may be writing
You can brute force it by making it try random stuff then judge itself on it. You don't have to always use an LLM's output. Sometimes you can use that plus other things to add flavor. An LLM is actually really good at judging if something is good or bad. It just has a really hard time coming up with new things. But if you had unlimited compute you can throw in some rng and whimsy and get something resembling what humans do.
hparadiz··on The safest job from AI may be writing
I find myself writing more than ever. In fact I must. I have to explain in no uncertain terms what I mean. Though I often find myself in very complex technical straits where words are not enough. There's something liberating about writing a wall of text and knowing that at least something will give you feedback. It won't be annoyed. It won't be tired. It won't say "tldr?" back at you. I don't know if that will convert into a novel for me. But it must for someone.

I'm at the point where I think you people are just dumb. The amount of people I've worked with my in career who did things totally outside of their major in college or simply dropped out entirely. I'm literally sitting here thinking about how intellectually destitute the so called left has become and it makes me sad.

And all of them are wrong.
hparadiz··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
The real problem is that places like HN and Reddit allow downvotes / reports to drown people out. Someone on Twitter will post on their page. They control it. It can be slop. It can be low quality. It can be their random thoughts but all that is irrelevant while you slowly build up your audience and the stuff you wanna work on. This generally takes time and is something that grows organically. Meanwhile on HN I will regularly see posts "flagged" where the account didn't actually say anything bad or against the rules. It just goes against the group think and it doesn't even take that much. It can be 1 or 2 people flagging your post and then suddenly it's hidden. This simply does not happen on Twitter.

So eventually people stop posting. I stopped posting on Reddit entirely for example even though I had dozens of very highly upvoted technical posts mainly because I would regularly see highly inaccurate information get upvoted while the real accurate information is downvoted.

HN has the same problem with Elon Musk overall and SpaceX / Twitter.

On Twitter there is a highly active community of space enthusiasts. Absolutely none of them would post slop like "Elon is not an engineer" but on HN that is what passes for discourse.

I mean at least they tell on themselves but I would prefer a technical forum have actually smart people in it. Not just larpers.

I just can't take this discourse seriously.
