hparadiz··on Plug-in solar is coming. Plug-in batteries should follow
You know I can just not use that grid electricity, pay the absolute minimum, and then do everything off grid right?

That doesn't really matter when you're buying a house in CA. It's a relatively small percentage of a difference in my overall mortgage. I'd rather have Prop 13 even if that means some people inherit a tax break. Homes that stay in a family have less administrative churn and keep neighborhoods more stable in the long term.
hparadiz··on A stray commit buried multiple levels deep cost me months
Feel like I've solved this non problem like 20 times.

If your framework is holding your records in a collection and you keep track of phantoms that have been edited but not saved as they are edited then all this becomes a non issue. That way you do Collection->SaveTransaction or Collection->Save() and the collection does all the db commit, roll back nonsense.

Anyway the examples I don't even know if I could call that an ORM. Use a better one.

hparadiz··on A GTK4 SSH-askpass in Zig
Keypassxc does it perfectly.

It's both.

These implementations really need to also include fingerprint sensor support

4.6 kg is easily dwarfed by just one of the trees on my lot.

I do like the math though. Gonna be very useful for space colonization

I assume these results are all amd64. Is this the same on arm64?

You are the one that brought up copyright infringement here in your original comment https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49089627

I just pointed out none took place.

Anyway I'm not replying in this thread anymore.

That question is irrelevant. Artists may be hired to reproduce copywritten work without the consent of the copyright owner. In this case an LLM is no different from Photoshop. It is a tool. Nothing more.

There's way too much hand waving on this topic. It is legal to produce copywritten work. If I draw Pikachu the drawing is mine. Legally. I am simply unable to make money on it. I can give it away if I want with zero liability. I could even hang the drawing up in my restaurant as a decoration. No big deal. What I can't do is use that drawing as my mascot or branding. We have an entirely separate process to determine if you are infringing on a copyright / trademark by using it to sell something. That's why whether or not an LLM can produce a picture of Pikachu is largely irrelevant. It's what you do with it that matters. Even more interestingly if I draw a picture of Pikachu and then the Pokemon Company decides they wanna use that specific picture they actually would have to pay ME for the copyright to use it.

derivative work & fair use. end of.

Not only are you not winning this one but I'm gonna laugh at you the entire time.

The courts don't agree with you and I don't either. Now what?

Suddenly it's "copyright infringement" to count the amount of times one word occurs after another word. I find this whole thing so amusing.
hparadiz··on Jensen Huang's first-ever post on X is in defense of open access to AI models
It only takes at most a few dozen folks to start it trending and then it starts to proliferate through the entire feed until it has tens of thousands of likes. It's not hard to find that many people to hit like on something like that.
hparadiz··on VLC for Unity now supported on Linux
VRChat folks will love this. Videoplayers are embedded into Unity scenes aka "maps" as a regular imported lib. The videoplayer is a drawn surface where users can see video playback. Most commonly used for streaming live music from a stream like Twitch.
hparadiz··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
My coding TUIs all have rules to never use emdashes.

6 months ago I would not have considered Gentoo for my work laptop but LLMs have unlocked my ability to do so. Wrestling with Linux is no longer constantly Googling with no end in sight. My work setup right now is _perfect_. I can't emphasis enough. I even built a gui for the VPN where non existed before.
hparadiz··on LLM Usage in Debian: Three Proposals
I've been running Gentoo for 20 years. What you consider "Gentoo" is simply the package manager and "ebuilds"; instructions to build upstream packages. Right now I'm using LLMs to make my own ebuilds and maintain them. The packages I am compiling are basically vanilla upstream Linux packages. It is laughable to suggest Gentoo doesn't use AI made code because upstream already has it.
hparadiz··on JEP 541: Deprecate the macOS/x64 Port for Removal
LLMs have completely changed how I run Linux. I just got a brand new Lenovo and getting the fingerprint sensor PAM configuration going for sudo was a breeze. I was having issues with my wifi not switching APs properly on my mesh and debugging and implementing a stable permanent fix took the same amount of time as what would previously have been just the start of me googling to the problem. And now that it's done the experience is really nice. An absolute dream even.

My Macbook Air 2021 M1 flies circles around my 2014 MBP. I got a new battery for the 2014 but the rubber bezel is disintegrating. I'm thinking of turning the 2014 into a TV driver but that's about it.
hparadiz··on Astronomers may have found the first exomoon
It should have been obvious to me (fusion duh!) that the result of the fusion is a higher density material that then increases the conditions for the reaction to take place. Both comments were immensely helpful and interesting! Thank you.
hparadiz··on Astronomers may have found the first exomoon
If a brown dwarf is right on the edge of stardom would it start protium fusion in only the part of itself that is the right pressure and then slowly burn out or would that ignition precipitate a pressure wave through the entire body forcing fusion to begin everywhere?

Anyone who lives in a country with high inflation and unstable monetary policy can now use crypto to store wealth. Calling crypto inherently bad is pure first world privilege.
