howdyhowdy123··on “Microslop” filtered in the official Microsoft Copilot Discord server
So... what's a good Linux distro comparison site? Just asking for a friend.
howdyhowdy123··on VW is bringing physical buttons back to the dashboard with the ID. Polo EV
Jeez, what car is this?
howdyhowdy123··on America must embrace the Electric Age, or fall behind
No they aren't. F*ck China and its genocidal dictatorship.
howdyhowdy123··on SpaceX Rockets Put Passenger Planes at Risk
All Rockets Put Passenger Planes at Risk. There, I fixed that for you.

These breakups fall within a statistical analysis sent by SpaceX to the FAA requesting a permit to launch, and the FAA approves it. Like with all other US rockets. The fact that nobody was harmed is proof the system is working.

howdyhowdy123··on Sergey Brin's Unretirement
I agree with this, although I prefer to phrase it as "being useful to others (and appreciated)".

I'd think this is universal but it's interesting to see others in this thread that disagree.

howdyhowdy123··on Warren Buffett steps down as Berkshire Hathaway CEO after six decades
His retirement was sad and his death tragic. I wish his family would release the second half of his autobiography.
howdyhowdy123··on Linux is good now
Lol. Here have my upvote
howdyhowdy123··on Linux is good now
I may give it a try... again.
howdyhowdy123··on Linux is good now
At least OnShape should work. I haven't tried it.
howdyhowdy123··on Linux is good now
Or... they can use Windows and not have to bend over backwards. I know this because I keep trying and giving up believe me.

Can I run Solidworks on Linux yet? Excel? Labview? Vivado? Adobe products? Altium Designer? (Matlab is mostly yes) Not everybody is just writing Javascript and PHP.

Can I get a laptop to sleep after closing the lid yet?

Not that long ago the answer to these questions was mostly no (or sort of yes... but very painfully)

On Windows all of this just works.

"Screen of death" in Windows? I haven't heard of one of those in over a decade.
howdyhowdy123··on Programming peaked
Ew
howdyhowdy123··on Anthropic acquires Bun
That's ridiculous. Not it isn't even close.
howdyhowdy123··on Poll HN: What operating system do you primarily develop on?
No

[flagged]
howdyhowdy123··on Think Weirder: The Year's Best SciFi Ideas
Not even Greg Egan? He's pretty popular.
howdyhowdy123··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
Now you are really starting to bend over backwards. The claim was that MS was a state enterprise. It's still not even close.
howdyhowdy123··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
Exactly
howdyhowdy123··on Anduril's product engineering machine
This sounds like such a sad and awful place. Some brilliant yet naive young people are being taken advantage of. (source: I was just like that at that age)
howdyhowdy123··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
I don't think you know what state backed enterprise means. You or anybody who spouts this.
howdyhowdy123··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
No it isn't
howdyhowdy123··on John Carmack's arguments against building a custom XR OS at Meta
Hehehe. I have talked to John Carmack a few times. He's super harsh and has zero filter or social niceties (Azperger's level, not that he is, but just sayin'). If you are not used to it or understand where it's coming from, it can be quite a shock. Or at least he was, many years ago. Maybe he's changed.
howdyhowdy123··on Self-taught engineers often outperform (2024)
That's exactly what it is. Somebody who is self taught is _by design_ somebody who's extremely motivated and interested in the subject.

Oops, Margaret Hamilton is a terrible example and immediately makes me lose respect for the rest of the article. She was famously mostly a manager who received the credit for the work of others. Read the book by Don Eyles and read between the lines.

(uh oh here come the downvotes)
