housingisaright··on Brian Chesky: Ability to hire from anywhere is more valuable than in-office work
I know of 0 friends who needs to go to an office currently. Most do to meet co-workers occasionally. I work in Sweden
housingisaright··on Cyclists now outnumber motorists in City of London
I love only having a bike in the city. So convenient and helps keeping my energy up. Worst part of living in Stockholm is that it is completely inconvenient in most cases if you actually wanna go to the city.
housingisaright··on Coinbase cuts staff by a further 20%
is this a serious comment?

Of the tech companies I or acquaintances have worked at, I've personally 'believed in the viability' of maybe 25%. If the tech / pay is good enough I could see myself work at them for sure since its a job. not all jobs require personal investment.

I now see that the username is IRL_CHAD. I feel stupid for falling for a obvious troll

housingisaright··on A mistake that killed Japan’s software industry?
Isn’t it a joke?
housingisaright··on Lies we tell ourselves to keep using Golang
wouldnt say its all sudden, this article has been linked multiple times before and there is probably 2-4 go hate threads per months on HN.
housingisaright··on Meta lays off 11,000 people
Depends how you look at it. I think they are well aware of their reputation and probably does not want to make it any worse.
housingisaright··on Barilla passive cooker
How you like to cook pasta aside. This is so dumb. No one is going to solve the climate crisis with not boiling the pasta while certain companies is reaponaible for basically all emissions.

What is the word for this? When you try socialise problems like this to try shift blame? I’m still surprised how many people don’t know thar “climate footprint “ is invented by one of the bigger oil companies in a similar campaign.

housingisaright··on Barcelona-style “superblocks” could make cities greener and less car-centric
cars or other vehicles required to provide services prohibited. The aim is to make people use other modes of transportation than their cars in these areas.
housingisaright··on Even After $100B, Self-Driving Cars Are Going Nowhere
US is extremely car dependant while being the biggest economy in the world. I don't think there is any other reason.

The logical thing would be to make cities less car-dependant but I'm sure there is strong economic interests that would like to continue selling cars.

housingisaright··on Nord Stream: Tie-ins and hyperbaric welding
? who else would've done it? Stop pretending. 'Maybe not russia??' is an exciting idea, but this is not a Tom Clancy novel and no such groups in Europe exists. Especially that would have the resources to carry out an attack like this.

The destruction of the pipeline happens simultaneous as Russia is in a direct conflict with Ukraine/Europe and is constantly flying drones at Norwegian oil platforms.

housingisaright··on Europe gas storage reserves – by country, updated daily
IDK if this comment is sarcastic or not, but this whole situation is due to Europe being naive about buying gas 'easily'.
housingisaright··on How far can you go by train in 5h?
Sweden-Norway is getting improved, the railroad between åre-trondheim has been 2 separate trains due to the Norwegian train not being electrified. Which is now being worked on. Trains in the northern parts of Sweden will always be sparse due to the low population tho.
housingisaright··on Ask HN: What is the job market like for niche languages (Nim, Crystal)?
Salaries in the eu is most def. Lower than us, but earning 100k with a couple years experience is pretty common in London/Berlin/Scandinavia etc.

Biggest difference is that not a lot of people are earning 200k+ salaries in eu.

housingisaright··on A brief history of nobody wants to work anymore
How do I report a comment on HN? These comments can’t be serious
housingisaright··on List of Tech company layoffs in Europe
What do you mean? Checkout layoffs.fyi for recent layoffs in tech, plenty of layoffs in US.

I have to say I'm not very surprised by any of these companies except maybe Klarna. Fast-delivery companies which probably never can be profitable in EU and Kry who's farming government subsidies.

housingisaright··on List of Tech company layoffs in Europe
Are these grocery-delivery services popular in the states / somwehere else? Never understood the market for them in the EU. Either you live in a city, have - at worst - 10-15 min to walk to a store, or you live outside a city where it is 10-15 min with a car to a store and the service is not available. They will die as soon as they stop subsidize the cost with VC money.
housingisaright··on Ask HN: How do you deal with rude interviewers?
If something like this happens and I realise there is 0% I want this job - I just mentally check out & stop answering questions as well as I can etc. Although I think it is better to be honest about how you feel, end the interview and avoid wasting anyones time.

It feels bad being disrespected and it is sometimes hard to shake off, but at least you probably dodged a bullet and weeks/months of wasted time.
