hoschicz··on LocalPilot: Open-source GitHub Copilot on your MacBook
How is context-from-following-tokens implemented in the pure OAI API? I assumed there must be specialized models that have two separate context windows.
hoschicz··on Ask HN: Anyone Using MacBook Air M2 24GB for Developement?
I use one with 16 GB and it's fine, 0 issues whatsoever.

hoschicz··on At last, the Raspberry Pi shortage is finally coming to an end
Can you give some examples of the low-power x86 boxes? As of my last knowledge update :) none of them took off
hoschicz··on Rarbg Is No More
They _really_ should give a dump of all the torrents, magnet links and seed/leech counts...
hoschicz··on Rarbg Is No More
You can easily decentralize search, but not fetching seed/leech counts essentially
hoschicz··on OpenAI's plans according to sama
- they are working on a stateful API - they are working on a cheaper version of GPT-4

Most probably this is driven by their use of it in ChatGPT, which is on fire from PMF. Clearly they're experimenting with the cheaper GPT-4 in ChatGPT right now as it's fairly turbo now, as discussed earlier today.

hoschicz··on Ask HN: Is it just me or GPT-4's quality has significantly deteriorated lately?
Absolutely. I am guessing they quantized the model (run it not in 32-bit but say 8-bit, saves resources). Just like they did with 3.5-turbo.
hoschicz··on Ask HN: Is it just me or GPT-4's quality has significantly deteriorated lately?
It's behind a waitlist
hoschicz··on Ask HN: Is it just me or GPT-4's quality has significantly deteriorated lately?
this is GPT 3.5, the icon is green

of "usage"? I never bought that claim as it's not clear what usage they mean – on 100x8 months or 10000x8 months?
hoschicz··on PaLM 2 Technical Report [pdf]
In Google Cloud Vertex AI, you can play with it straight away
hoschicz··on The Cairo Programming Language
I've been programming in Cairo 1 in the past few weeks and must say that the developer experience is very good for web3, where it's usually very bad.

I also believe that it's the solution to blockchain scaling – this finally lets us have the entire 'web3' have more than the computing power of one single machine.

hoschicz··on Starbucks claims $181M in revenue from unused gift cards (2022)
Do they? Only in the US? I ride with Uber in Europe and always see the charge from them immediately on my card.
hoschicz··on A reason why Mac speakers sound better and louder than most
Oh so this is why I feel a slight tingling every time I touch my Mac while it's charging! I was looking for this info for quite some time, thanks
hoschicz··on Shorting Tether
Note that interest rates on USDT went down now and now it costs around only 3 % APR to short it. I've been short for a year now and will be fairly rich if Tether burns to the ground.
hoschicz··on Why didn’t we get the four-hour workday?
Now therapists are probably this job.
hoschicz··on Twitter suspends pg's account [fixed]

hoschicz··on Swedish tech startups and scaleups
You can't add 55+25 like that; VAT is 25 % of the 45 % left over. So maximum total marginal tax rate is 66.25 %
hoschicz··on EU approves legislation to regulate Apple, Google, Meta, and other tech firms
I think essentially yes, they can't bundle all their apps and services; you have to be able to install their apps and services separately in the unprotected mode. Not very sure though.
hoschicz··on Top stablecoins shed $7B in May as traders redeem tokens en masse
See my sibling comment. You can do a permissionless short on Tether on the blockchain for a varying interest rate difference between USDC and USDT. I've been paying approx 2 % a year for the last year now.
hoschicz··on Top stablecoins shed $7B in May as traders redeem tokens en masse
You don't on chains such as Polygon, Fantom, etc etc etc. Really only Ethereum is very expensive; you don't have to use it.
hoschicz··on Top stablecoins shed $7B in May as traders redeem tokens en masse
Yes, there is essentially no downside.

I do it; on Aave you can deposit USDC and borrow USDT against it, earning an interest on USDC and paying interest on the USDT. It currently costs me about 3 APR to short Tether. What's nice is that you can iterate the strategy, e.g. deposit 1000 USDC, borrow 950 USDT, swap this USDT for USDC, deposit the USDC, borrow more USDT...

https://app.aave.com/ offers "E-mode", which lets you borrow stablecoins worth up to 99 % of the stablecoins you deposited.

hoschicz··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Google Photos?
Interesting! Is it possible to request that my data be stored outside Russia? Or does the Russian government automatically have access to it?
