honua··on The contested papyrus “The Gospel of Jesus’s Wife”
Right, but the cover image of the manuscript uses of those style of images. Kind of goofy is a strange way to say racist.
honua··on Migrating a 10,000-line legacy JavaScript codebase to TypeScript
I was wanting the same kind of thing! We have an old Node (lol, funny to write that) code base of about 60 services that fetch data from 3rd party APIs. They're all very dis-organized and written in different styles, so a tool like that would be really useful. I've been experimenting with using Facebook's Flow on this, but it doesn't do the magic that you describe (which I'd like)

Who cares about his wife if we still can't get what he looked like right. He wasn't European.. let's stop drawing him that way.
honua··on Works Records System – A multi-user online programmable spreadsheet in 1974
> I strongly suspect this article was created by Ken Dakin, who it appears has chosen to use Wikipedia to document the achievements of his career. We have recently deleted two articles which he created for a similar purpose; see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IBM OLIVER (CICS interactive test/debug) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/SIMON (Batch Interactive test/debug).

Maybe Ken is an HN user? ;)

honua··on A Lament for the LAN Party
I always thought it was just a movie stereotype to have 'jocks', 'nerds' and 'cheer leaders'
honua··on Police use new device to seize money in bank accounts or on prepaid cards
> These problems are not a creation of police. These are created by good people like us who do not empathize with criminals, minorities and other groups which by default consider "less human".

I agree that the problem is considering others as "less human" but I wouldn't exclude the police from that!

honua··on Show HN: Memleax – detects memory leak of a running process
Hm.. It'd be cool if I could run this on Heroku, though maybe that's a reason to switch to something like AWS?
honua··on How Two Seattle-Area Brothers Made Dwarf Fortress
This is what I thought it'd be, too, only I mis-read fortress as forest and thought about a really cool park-like area with tiny trees.
honua··on Ask HN: Anyone work in Honolulu?
Aloha from Kaua'i! How do you enjoy O'ahu?
honua··on Ask HN: Anyone work in Honolulu?
Aloha from Kaua'i! How do you enjoy O'ahu? I've only been in Honolulu a few days (but lived on Kaua'i about 6 years)
honua··on Finally fired after 6 years
I guess the biggest question here is - does OP even want to be a programmer? Maybe they'd rather do something else in life.. but e.g. for me, it's been my goal of the past two years (which I'm finally s/realizing/achieving/)
honua··on Finally fired after 6 years
Plus.. I actually enjoy coding. I wouldn't even want to automate my job. I know that in the past I've wanted ways to escape working, but now that I'm a developer I couldn't imagine finding ways not to work (I guess except for browsing HN)
honua··on 8-bit computer from scratch
Yeah this is what I was expecting too
honua··on Show HN: Spreadsheet_server
Sorry but I really don't understand what this is for. Can someone explain?
honua··on Ask HN: Relationship between OO and functional programming?
Awesome, thanks!
honua··on Ask HN: Relationship between OO and functional programming?
Tiny request -- can you indicate that the line following the link is a quote? I wasn't sure if that was from the 'tweet' or if that was your interpretation/summary of it
honua··on Ask HN: Relationship between OO and functional programming?
That's really neat you've given a talk about this. If by any chance the talk is recorded it'd be great to watch it!
honua··on Esperanto: the language that never was
Well, like what?
honua··on The Elixir of concurrency
While similar, it's not the same. Erlang/OTP/Elixir provides baked in tools to watch, restart, etc. processes. In C you'd need to do this yourself.
honua··on Cutestrap: 8k CSS framework
npm.
honua··on Cutestrap: 8k CSS framework
> bower install cutestrap

People still use bower...? Somehow I thought it officially(?) was dead.

honua··on How to Get Your Apartment Off the Grid
That's an interesting question and something I hadn't thought about. I think the biggest motivation for going off-grid is the relatively cleaner outcome. I.e. the control over the source/production (e.g. solar vs coal). So overall my guess is that the intent isn't to operate independent nodes but moreover to have control over the way the electricity is produced.

What is this, Hacker News or something? :) (Just nice to see this kind of thing on here)
honua··on Reason: A new interface to OCaml
What problems would be well solved by Reason/OCaml?
honua··on FBI Harassing Core Tor Developer, Demand Meeting, but Refusing to Explain Why
Vielen Dank, das war sehr interessant
honua··on National (JavaScript) Security Agency
As well as declaring variables in if blocks

if (!undeclaredVariable) { var undeclaredVariable = false; }

honua··on National (JavaScript) Security Agency
The point here isn't how well it works but the interesting style of code.
honua··on We asked 15,000 people how they're learning to program
Well, they don't have a lot of experience yet.. given time I imagine that they'd grow their zone of comfort
honua··on HP Unveils Premium Chromebook: 3K Display, Intel Core M, 16 GB of RAM and USB-C
I think you missed that they used Ubuntu on their previous Chromebook (I do too) and so would probably do the same with this one
