There has to be a culture in place, and a guardrail in place to enforce that culture.
Lots more thoughts there, but I think that's the core of it.

There's nothing fucked up about this. If anything it's recycled shit from a mall store manager's book of training.
Management training exists so that people don't defer to their own egos and impulses when managing staff. It's a systemic/standardized approach to common behaviors found in employees. If anything it helps mitigate the more toxic behaviors of competitive environments. It's not perfect, but it is funny that tech bros have rediscovered Human Resources departments

It's an act of rebellion towards a world browbeating you into performance for invisible strangers
We make wfh a right for all appropriate jobs
We improve fiber optic connectivity in rural communities
We incentivize young families to move to rural communities

The main thing here is we break the unnecessary chains of offices and commuting and allow families to build where they have the space and want for them.
Cities are inherently isolating - space is at a premium - which means there is constant pressure to not expand in many different ways.

If you've ever worked land, you'll know your boss is the weather and the seasons, and time.
It's good.
You work to earn, you earn to buy.
But buying is not meaning. It's a momentary sugar high that's lost to the wind the moment the transaction is over. No deeper life meaning can be derived from this.
When your culture is based around constant self satisfaction, there's nothing bigger than the self.
Community is dead, culture over generations is dead, building and making is dead, even cooking your own food is dead - "just order it". There's nothing for us to do except our individual parts, and our individual parts often feel like we're just putting a quarter into a machine that spits out a paycheck.
Etc etc
So, I'm a believer
It was a mud style game in beta that ended up getting axed in the early 2000s (?) but it was brilliant and a few of us stuck around in it long after we should have.
If anyone has heard anything about it, let me know!
