I'll echo the comment that Common Core is not a textbook nor a particular way to add/subtract. It's a standard to establish baseline knowledge US kids must master.
That blog post is raging about a new way to do subtract which seems to be out of reach for his comprehension, can't teach an old dog kindda thing, so he blames it on Common Core.
He also mentioned that there are 4 new ways to do subtraction. This should be good news. Kids/people learns to do things differently. 4 different ways means kids have more arsenals to tackle their problems. I wish I had that learning opportunity!
Specifically about that subtraction, did you noticed that it'd make it easier to do the math in your head? maybe there is a reason for the madness after all.
@jacoste: I'm a good guy so I only wear black tees. :) any plan for something in that color?
I'll probably break my own rules for your products since you guys support water accessibility in poor countries, a cause near and dear to me.
The Zone diet works pretty well which call for a balanced diet with smaller portions, lots of veggies, way less meat. It advocates grazing, as oppose to 3 meals a day. After all we're not farmers of days past anymore, so we should adapt to modern life eating patterns.
you're using ocam's razor a little too fine. The abstract actually said they want the "dumbest" of "dumb" people. Since the Nigerian scams are so well-known, only the truly gullibles will fall for their schemes, and those are the ones the scammers want. Their reputations works as a victim filtering system to their advantage.
so much hate for the UI! personally, it works and works well for its intended purpose. To me, it's even intuitive at times. By that virtue, it's already better than 90% of software out there, free or not. Can it be better? sure, like everything else in life.
Now that I know that the dev is abrasive from other HN comments, i've got even more respect for him, because of the heavier load he has to carried. :)
just downloaded and fuzz around a little. Can't replace my guitar but good enough to accompany some impromptu singing. Now when I travel, I'll always have a handy instrument. Does what it said. Recommended.
@akumpf: guitar & electric guitar sounds too synthesize, not sure if it's even appropriate to label as such. I know it's tough but if you guys can tighten up on the guitar sounds and add strummings patterns, eg. Jam with Chrome type, that'd be awesome. Great job on your debut version.
I ran a marathon before and I can tell you there's no negative effect, aside from the obvious muscles soreness. OTOH, I can spend all day tell you about the benefits of training for and running a marathon.
I normally don't bother to comment on these manufactured outrages but I have to make an exception here. Look, PG clearly were referring in the interview to startup _founders_. The magazine twisted his words to make it sounds like he saying that women can't be _coder_, meaning women can never learn to code well enough to get a job, which he never said. If that's indeed what he say then everyone, you and I can decide to be outrage about it. But that's not what he said. We should really be outraged at the magazine for this hit piece.
good idea. Can you add a forum to the site for people to discuss particulars of the project they're working on? It would be nice to see other people working on the same thing and how they go about it. This feature works great on Coursera.
Classical music is alive and well. It's also evolving, as it should. You might find it camouflaged as sountracks. Witness the "views" numbers on Youtube of "Inception" or any "epic music", they're in the millions.
thanks for the decisive response. :) no subtasks is a no-go for me. i get your thoughts about features growth, just wouldn't work w/ my work flow so I'll wait 'til you guys come around. :)
this is why i love HN where reasonable people are willing to consider different perspectives and make their choices of conviction. thanks for the conversation.
