hoffmabc··on Sneak Peek at Bitcoin's Upcoming Killer App – Open Bazaar
Realistically there are only about 1 million bitcoin users in total worldwide. It is still very early days. We are aiming to make OpenBazaar a common ecommerce standard using Bitcoin that will allow people to build trustworthy marketplaces on top in many different ways. It's not just about overrunning eBay, it's about providing a global, user-driven and open-source network that will grow in scale as Bitcoin does. The escrow capability is certainly an experiment in many ways, but it also is being done in other countries successfully and we think it's one of the best ways to create a marketplace of trustworthy arbiters rather than have a centralized corporation with rigid policies that treat customers unfairly in most cases.

You have the choice between direct payment transactions which is more risky and should only be used between known parties and then there is a 2 of 3 party multisig escrow transaction that allows a moderator to be an arbitrator for problems and funds are only released if 2 of the 3 parties agree.
hoffmabc··on Fail: Cr48 tracker
Probably UPS got pissed about them slamming the API or maybe it exposed people to theft since everyone could find out where they were going?
hoffmabc··on Six months old and only three hundred users, what's wrong?
Wow. Lot of feedback, really helpful! I will definitely try what I can and see how it goes. Thanks much.
hoffmabc··on Why Node.js Is Totally Awesome
dude stop being so old. not everyone is a crusty old programmer that can't be hyped up by anything. there used to be a time when programming was fun and we enjoyed being pumped up about new technologies. chill out MOTHER FUCKER!
hoffmabc··on WANTED: Partner for existing web application
I agree. I would have to concede that sometimes the algorithm is not perfect (nor do I believe it ever could be). I took a glance at the Lord of the Rings and some of the ways that this movie was tagged made it appear stronger in certain categories that would recommend those movies. I have modified the analysis of the movie and I think the recommendations are a little more pertinent.

Thanks!

hoffmabc··on WANTED: Partner for existing web application
This comment has really resonated with me as I read it once again. I see this same tired comment on so many threads. Nowhere did I say that I want someone to do all the work for me. I guess there must be a lot of people out there that just want people to shoulder most of the load, but that's not what I'm looking for. I think even the most junior entrepreneur could realize that an idea is not as valuable as the strength of a team or ability to implement an idea. Also I'm not really sure where profit comes into play. There was no mention or discussion of profit or pay nor would I bring that up on a purely exploratory post like this one.
hoffmabc··on WANTED: Partner for existing web application
Ratings are included but the weights are possibly not adjusted correctly. It's a work in progress. One man project as well at this time, hence the request.
hoffmabc··on WANTED: Partner for existing web application
I am a programmer already, if you look at the link I have created all of this myself. I am merely explaining the type of partner that I expect to team up with. I'm not a nobody idea man.
hoffmabc··on "Great Web Site, Pixar" -- Seriously?
John Gruber is a retard. He eats every chocolate dropping Apple squeezes out.
hoffmabc··on Ask HN: Best technology for web development
Javascript. Learn it asap. HTML obviously and then use what you know already for SQL and Java/C++ to code the backend. You already have a lot of the framework for it having done application development.
hoffmabc··on Hacker News I Need Feedback
Wow! Thanks for the great feedback. I am sorry for the Facebook Connect issue, I'm in parallel working on a mobile version and the authentication kinks need to get worked out. I appreciate all the time you spent into doing what you did and writing it out. I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any feedback.

I will definitely be changing some of this stuff as you pointed out some things I didn't think of such as the membership options being presumptuous. I agree.

hoffmabc··on Hacker News I Need Feedback
I need feedback. I have been putting together this web site and I have not been successful in getting much feedback. Please help. I am looking for feedback in any area. Usability, UI, features, functionality, etc. Please help!

Keep in mind, work in progress!!!

hoffmabc··on Ask HN: Please critique (harshly if necessary) Movie Tracker
Ship them to you, no printing at this time. Generic vouchers good for any show, any time.
hoffmabc··on Ask HN: Please critique (harshly if necessary) Movie Tracker
I haven't done much research, but I do know of other very legit sites that do import Netflix ratings. Jinni.com is one example. Thanks for the heads up.
hoffmabc··on Ask HN: Please critique (harshly if necessary) Movie Tracker
I'm working on creating a Netflix importer option that could bring in all of your ratings. That might help a little in that. Bulk ticket discounts at this point.

hoffmabc··on Test your web app in any browser seamlessly
Just have to throw in some positive notes on this one. I use this actually from a VM on Mac Snow Leopard and it works great. Personally I don't install IE6 only on my VMs. With Spoon I can test IE6-8, Opera, Chrome, and Firefox all at once. So don't bash just nod with the first person who mentioned it doesn't work on OSX and move on.
hoffmabc··on Google Wave Aha moment, with:public is Awesome
that is sick, thanks for the tip.
hoffmabc··on Ask HN: Please review my webapp - MovieTracker

hoffmabc··on Baseline - a framework built with typographic standards in mind
Used it and it totally ignored Internet Explorer. Looks pretty shitty in IE6-8.
hoffmabc··on Ask pg: How good is this YC application?
are you serious?
hoffmabc··on Launchbox 08 team looking for hacker co-founders
I feel bad if they hired your team missing key hacker co-founders. I always thought these incubators picked groups mostly on the team. Besides the small amount that Launchbox is actually offering should guarantee you waste most of your summer on this idea. Better off going your own way.
hoffmabc··on Game’s high score could earn the Nobel
Man I was hoping that this would be an article on GTA IV. Color me disappointed.
hoffmabc··on How to Meet Women Without Really Trying
who wants to meet women? i want to sleep with them. haha.
hoffmabc··on A List Apart: Zebra Striping: Does it Really Help?
This is a real time waster. In my opinion, if it helps people organize their thinking and read the data faster while at the same time makes my page look nicer, then it's a done deal. I always appreciate a good ALA article though.
hoffmabc··on Killing Twitter Before It Can hurt Us
This was actually a really interesting posit. I think that it's sort of like instant messaging. Someone is going to create the Jabber of Twitter technology but I think there will still be room for the Twitters and Jaikus to run the game.
