hobochili··on 'Perfect Blue' and 'Requiem for a Dream'
If you’re tracing Crash back to Magnolia, keep on going until you reach Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993). Magnolia uses a similar template, just weighs it all down with more melodrama.
hobochili··on Show HN: ProsperStack – Use Stripe to automatically prevent cancellations
This is a good idea. It seems like it would help eliminate a lot of the inherent guesswork in feature forecasting (as I've experienced it). "We have lost x amount in annual recurring revenue due to the absence of feature y..." It could also provide valuable insight into how well your product is serving different markets.
hobochili··on Grafana 7.0
Agreed. If Grafana alerts supported templated variables I would migrate a decent chunk of my monitoring stack. But without templated variables the alert system feels half baked and I almost prefer it not even be a feature.

What hardware did you settle on?
hobochili··on The Growing Emptiness of the “Star Wars” Universe
Fair to say that Star Wars is more psychological than philosophical?
hobochili··on Uber vehicle reportedly saw but ignored woman it struck
It's a hard problem to solve that doesn't need solving. Glorifying the complexity of the challenge shouldn't distract from the questionable ethics of endangering lives in the pursuit of luxury.
hobochili··on 2017 was probably the best year in the history of humanity
It seems a strange notion to restore nature with advancements in technology. Restore it to what, how it was before technology?

It is a nice thought, I guess, but it won't be Nature. It will be Nature: Restored. That is, something else.

hobochili··on Leonard Cohen Makes It Darker
I'll concede that Cohen is a Canadian songwriter. It's interesting to me, though, that he launched his music career in New York.
hobochili··on Leonard Cohen Makes It Darker
Haha... Valid point. I'd have to explore the intricacies of Canadian songwriting before I could confidently make the assertion, but my feeling is that Cohen's songwriting falls in line with the American tradition.
hobochili··on The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 awarded to Bob Dylan
Darkness at the break of noon

Shadows even the silver spoon

The handmade blade, the child's balloon

Eclipses both the sun and moon

To understand you know too soon, there is no sense in trying

Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn

Suicide remarks are torn

From the fool's gold mouthpiece the hollow horn

Plays wasted words proves to warn

That he not busy being born is busy dying

Temptation's page flies out the door

You follow, find yourself at war

Watch waterfalls of pity roar

You feel to moan but unlike before

You discover that you'd just be one more person crying

So don't fear if you hear

A foreign sound to your ear

It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing

hobochili··on Leonard Cohen Makes It Darker
As much as I love Bob Dylan, I wouldn't have been upset had Leonard Cohen been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. He's written two novels, several volumes of poetry, and, of course, has made his own irreplaceable poetic contributions to American songwriting.
